  1. Did Jim Thome ever have a 40 game stretch with the Sox where he was as unproductive as Dunn has been? Dunn needs to start earning his check.
  2. I was told by someone who knows someone that Viciedo was coming up today, and I assumed it was for Teahen, but Viciedo was in Charlotte's line up tonight before it was PPD. Like was mentioned above, you would think if they were going to replace Teahen, they would have had someone in Chicago before the game today, so apparently the Tank is going to be staying in Charlotte.
  3. Viciedo is getting called up tomorrow. I believe Teahen will be DL'd. It will be interesting to see how and if Ozzie uses him.
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 14, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) Now you're comparing the careers of Peña and Dunn, as if they're similar. Peña has been crap for quite some time, but he's been less crappy than Gray. But this year, Gray was noticeably outperforming him. Dunn is a consistent league leader in HR's and OBP. Let's not act like Dunn/Lillibridge and Peña/Gray are even remotely similar circumstances. They are the same. You're basing it on 10 IP.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2011 -> 08:43 AM) All though I am shocked he got claimed so quickly. It was the Mariners and he was impressive against them. If Tony Pena was making the minimum or near which is what I assume Gray is making, he'd get claimed.
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 14, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) No, it's about two guys who have been better this season getting the shaft to the detriment of the team. And it doesn't have to be a difference of several wins. If you haven't noticed, we're a pretty s***ty team according to our record. We have absolutely no room for error, so we must put our very best options out there. And moving forward Tony Pena is a better option than Jeff Gray. Lillibridge is having a better season than Dunn. Why shouldn't he be in RF batting 3rd and Quentin DHing? Jeff Gray is not as good as Tony Pena.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 14, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) Money. And as far as I'm concerned, all of your other points are as much speculation as you consider the original story. It all urban legend. Just find one legit story on it. You'll never find it. Someone threw it out on some message board and if that happens it has to be true.
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 14, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) I'm so sick of the small-mindedness from people who act like they don't understand what people are angry about. Nobody is upset that Jeff Gray is gone. Nobody believes he is some great reliever. We're upset because he was sent packing in favor of a worse player. You all understand this, but it's more fun to create a straw man argument and tear it apart. WAH JEFF GRAY IS THE BESTEST PICTURE EVER WHY DID WE KICK HIM OUT11!!! Its not a straw man argument. Its common sense. It would be like if the Sox needed to get rid of a position player Dunn wouldn't be sent packing even though he's been far worse this year than almost everyone else. Its what is projected. Pena did some nice things at some point during each of his White Sox seasons. Moving forward, he's a much better bet to perform decently than Jeff Gray. If anything, the small-minded thinking is "hey this guy did pretty good in garbage time he needs to be kept" or the "a message has to be sent" garbage. I don't now how anyone can come to the conclusion that without a doubt Jeff Gray is a better pitcher than Tony Pena.
  9. QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ May 13, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) Yikes. The whole thing between Hawk and Wimpy is pretty low of Hawk, but to call the guy a piece of human garbage? Did he run over your dog or something? It's one thing not to like his announcing, but that doesn't make him a bad guy. Its never been confirmed the story was even true, but haters are gonna hate, so if you're not a fan of Hawk, there's no chance it isn't true. I have a hard time believing Wimpy would ever sit next to him again if it were true, and while Wimpy is a very nice man, he has had a dark side, perhaps caused by no fault of his own. I'd give the chances of the story being true less than 1%. Wimpy wouldn't have called Hawk to tell him he was quitting. He wouldn't have called him on Hawk Harrelson day, and he certainly wouldn't be working with him now if it were true, apology or not.
  10. Its not what you've done the last couple weeks, its what they project you will do the rest of the season. The odds are pretty good that Pena will have a stretch of 13 innings with a 2.70 ERA this year, and they are pretty good that Gray will have a stretch of 10 innings where his ERA is 8.10. As bad as Pena has been, he's a better and more valuable pitcher than Jeff Gray.
  11. People are upset about losing Jeff Gray? Jeff Gray? Really? People, he did fine, but it was 13 innings in garbage time. If he was as valuable as you think, the White Sox wouldn't have had to place him on waivers, they could have traded him for something, anything, but apparently no team was willing to give KW anything.
  12. Pierre fights almost every ball that is hit to him. He's not sure he can catch it, and the Angels are smart, they run on him at will, hopefully other teams will not follow suit. It amazes me teams don't make Pierre throw them out at second more often.
  13. They have to get Pierre off the field. Viciedo time.
  14. Maybe Dunn is just real streaky. Last year at this point he had 6 homers and was hitting .230. He had an awful second half but still had good overall numbers. He must put up most of his numbers in a short period of time.
  15. Wimpy will be in the booth with Hawk this weekend.
  16. Marriotti got charged with more crimes. He pulled his ex girlfriends hair.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) An intelligent team would release the zero tool player. Bring up Viciedo put him in left. Leadoff with Alexei. But our manager would rather wait for his NL offense to materialize. Interleague is coming up.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Dunn is starting to piss me off. Its getting to the point learning the new league and minor surgery can't be used as excuses anymore. There has to be some concern over deterioration of ability, although I can't see him hitting less than 30 homers if he makes it through the season healthy.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) I was watching the Bulls game. Did Danks really give up a HR to Maicer Izturis? Explain this somebody. He's hit more homers than Car Go this year. Why the shock?
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) If someone else bought the Sox, they'd leave Chicago. No chance. There's a lease and a television channel. The Sox have a lot more revenue than a lot of teams. If they could somehow truly convince fans that the upper deck really isn't one floor from heaven, they would have a lot better attendance. That is the White Sox biggest problem. The reputation of the upper deck.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Honestly, I really don't care about Humber. He's been great so far. But he's nowhere near as important to this organization going forward as Beckham is. Yeah, I know Wallace sucked last year. And if you read what I said I stated "for the most part" when it came to other teams' top prospects coming up and producing right away. He (Wallace) obviously made some adjustments and now you're seeing why he was so highly regarded (though he's been traded like 22 times). What's Beckham doing? Do we have to wait until August every year for him to look like a major leaguer? I never said Beckham sucks. At least in the sense that he has no talent like Juan Pierre. Sure, if he goes 0/4 with 3 Ks I might say something crazy. But it's not like I think the guy is Jason Kendall. But this game is about results. We're in a hole right now and he's been a big part of it. He or Walker or who f***ing ever need to figure out what the problem is. You were up for trading him straight up for Alex Gordon. How long did Alex Gordon struggle.? Then the minute he has a decent month, he's a guy you want. Baseball season is a marathon, although the Sox trouble at the starting line seems to have left them with little chance real early in the race.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I do think we should wait until at least the ASB before we start crowing about Humber being a feather in KW's or Cooper's cap. It was a good "no risk" acquisition, but there's a long season to go for Beckham to redeem himself and Humber to falter. Unfortunately, Beckham didn't produce (along with 4-5 other guys) when he was most needed, and it's made the season almost irrelevant from here on out, except as "developmental" trial and error in setting up for 2012 and playing spoiler. He was b****ing about Humber just taking the few starts Peavy was going to miss. It turns out during that time he was the Sox best pitcher. Even if Humber has a 25.00 ERA the rest of the year, he was wrong.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) Cool. So we get to wait 5 more years until Beckham 'gets it?' That's a terrible comparison and you know it. I really don't mind your b****ing about every White Sox prospect, but when you mention other teams' prospect you fail to mention they have struggled at times too. Brett Wallace was horrid last year. You were very wrong about Humber, maybe you have, but I haven't seen you give him his due., and since you think Beckham sucks, you will be wrong about him.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) Nobody will be eating crow. He'll be given his just due like he was in '09 when he was producing. As of right now, he deserves nothing but criticism. We heard all the spring training fluff about how Beckham was "looking to rebound" or "looking to put 2010 behind him" and here we are in the same position with him. Then you look around baseball and you see guys like Buster Posey, Jason Heyward, Drew Stubbs, Justin Smoak, Brett Wallace, Starlin Casto, Ike Davis, and Andrew McCutchen for the most part get called up and consistently produce right off the bat and Beckham's struggles are magnified. Maybe he's a late bloomer like Humber. Have you given Humber his due? BTW, Posey's OPS is down .162 from last year. I wonder if Giants fans are ready to slit their wrists. Justin Smoak was awful with Texas and Seattle last year.
  25. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 7, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) I don't think he's worth $10M this year much less three or four years from now. You do have a point, plus we really don't know if his age given is accurate. He came from the same place that said Jose Contreras is currently 39.
