  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) So this has always been KW's decision if Guillen is to be believed. Its ultimately the GMs decision in making the roster, but most of the top GMs do try to provide what their manager wants. Ozzie can be a clown all he wants because he knows if the Sox ultimately tell him to go shove it, or if he tells them to shove it, he can go to the Marlins and his act won't get old for several years. Plus in the NL, he can bunt until Oney comes up with an intelligent comment without anyone complaining.
  2. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) “I don’t give a [expletive] what people say about me, I don’t,” Guillen said. “As long as I’m manager of this team and JP is here, he’s playing. You don’t want him here, well get him out of here and bring whoever they want to bring.” “I’ve said in the past, they want Viciedo here, my door is open, as soon as he’s here I’ll play him every day,” Guillen said. “Now, I make it clear, they gotta make a trade or make a decision to send someone down. I cannot play with a 26 man roster. But as long as JP is here, he’s playing. If people don’t like it….” OK Kenny, that's your queue. I know its a small sample size, but the White Sox are 4-1 in games Pierre doesn't leadoff. BTW, there is no one that cares more about what people say about them than Ozzie Guillen.
  3. Viciedo with a homer. Hopefully his days of providing a living for Charlotte fast food establishment owners will be coming to an end soon.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) What's everyone's feeling on Beckham? I don't see a Major League caliber hitter. I'm surprised he hasn't snapped out of it, but he will. I still believe he will be the best player on the White Sox eventually.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) Cleveland goes down 1-0 on a balk Some team won on a walk off balk a couple of nights ago.
  6. 14-107 a .131 batting average with 51 strikeouts at home for Dunn. Even his biggest detractors would have a hard time believing those numbers.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) By the way this is Juan's line against LHP this year: .317 .446 .333 .779 This is Adam Dunn's: .020 .186 .020 .207 Yes that is correct, Juan is killing Dunn against lhp this year. And his only hit was of the scratch hit variety. Its been a struggle.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) I understand how the DH works, I just am not starting a guy with 1 hit against lhp. Id do anything else, Im pretty sure even JP is hitting lefties better. Are we just hoping for random luck that Dunn runs into one? I would venture to guess...........yes. Dunn hasn't historically been this bad vs. LHP. Chances are if I had has many reps in the cage as Dunn I could go 1 for 50.He's due. I remember Thome going up against Sabatthia a few years ago, no one giving him a chance since he really struggled previously and he took him deep twice.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) Honestly the obsession with "All in" is scary. It is an advertising campaign for gods sake. Does everyone expect to see the Miller Lite Guards if you pick up a case of bud light with your strawberry body wash too? Let it go people. While "All In" is indeed an advertising campaign, it isn't something the ad agency came up with. Its from quotes from JR and KW when they signed Dunn and brought AJ and Konerko back. Quote from KW at the Dunn press conference: It's uncomfortable sometimes, but you either are all in or you are not. And if you are not, then present that message to your fans. Be straight and say, 'I don't think we are going to do very much and here's the plan going forward.' If you are in it, stand up and show you are." Then he said this: "Yeah, I make [Reinsdorf] uncomfortable a little bit sometimes," said Williams, who quipped the White Sox were looking for money under couch cushions to pay for the budget increase. "Hopefully we can continue to build the best team possible and people will get excited and support us, and then I get to keep my job." I wonder if KW really frets about job security or if it is more fake humility.
  10. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) Juan Pierre's OPS is now below .600. To be fair, Adam Dunn might join him there soon. Maybe its just wishful thinking, but I think Dunn is about to turn it around. He almost homered last night, and they showed him on second after his double on the board, there was a big sigh of relief from him. Maybe playing against his old teammates relaxes him a bit and he can move on from there. Physically,I just don't think its normal to go that bad that quickly. Its happened, but its unusual. It has to be mental. I really don't think he's going to get to his usual numbers except for strikeouts, but I do think he'll be far more useful the rest of the season.
  11. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) It actually isn't very amazing if you read some of the posts here a lot of the posters here will blindly follow certain players regardless of how indefensible their actions are it's funny, AJ is widely known and accepted around major league baseball as being a jackass, a jerk, and overall toolbag. he shows up a teammate and there are people here defending him because they hate jake peavy. lol, what a joke. Or there are people who really don't know exactly what the problem who hate AJ so they just assume the problem was AJ showed him up. Do you know what was said? Seems to me you are accusing people of doing exactly what you are doing. Teammates argue all the time. We will really know if this was a huge issue if Castro becomes Peavy's personal catcher.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) Jackson probably made himself a lot of money last night. You have to think Washington is a favorite to sign him especially since they get along well with boras He has all the ability in the world. He may be the biggest tease on the White Sox. He looks so unhittable at times, then the next start he gives up 5 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings. They had something on the board last night, and I don't know if its accurate because the board made no sense a few times as once they said Lillibridge had 37 hits last season then broke it down to 13 singles 5 doubes 2 triples and 2 homers. I guess he had 15 hits that were classified any of those. When Jackson struck someone out, the RF line once had Gavin Floyd 4 k's. After the next strikeout, Jake Peavy 5 k's. But it said Jackson has had 5 starts in his career with 10 ks or more, and 4 of those are with the White Sox. I'm kind of shocked he only did it once before he came here.
  13. I was thinking uniforms last night. I think its time some team brought back the pullovers.
  14. Shin Soo Choo broke his thumb. Once this service time issue with Viciedo is cleared up and Dunn starts hitting, which I believe after Friday night is soon, the Sox, with all their warts, should walk away with this pretty pathetic division.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) nothing lost nothing gained in the division Just another golden opportunity bungled. Dunn looked a little better tonight after the first couple of Ks. If he gets hot and Rios plays like the first half last season, the Sox will win the division easily. If not, games like tonight are really going to hurt.
  16. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) You're supporting season ticket holders' ability to keep buying season tickets. Exactly. There's nothing wrong with your fandom using stubhub. Finding your best deal shouldn't be frowned upon. I just wonder if the dynamic pricing is costing the Sox. If I'm a dad and see its a beautiful day why don't I take the kids to a ballgame, go to ticketmaster, see its $80 a pop, I'm taking the kids somewhere else then watching the game on my HDTV. It also amazing me how many people are unfamiliar with stubhub and craigslist for tickets.
  17. I wonder how many tickets they Sox have let go unused because of this dynamic pricing model at Ticketmaster. If you want a premium box seat for tomorrow's game, it will cost you 80 to sit in row 35.
  18. You know, Harold Baines had some of his better offensive numbers in his late 30's very early 40s. Spent some time in Oakland......................... Just saying. And what about Carlton Fisk?
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:32 PM) Some people on this board want the team to get in a big brawl to show some guts and life. This incident shows some life in this lifeless piece of s*** team. I love it. Kudos to AJ and Peavy both for being competitors unlike many of the underachievers on this team. I agree. It definitiely is two of the Sox better competitors. I think its being made a lot bigger deal than it really is, and even if they did have a huge argument, there's no reason to believe its not OK now.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) I was just surfing around and it seems the only place this is being made an issue is here. Others are saying Jake was upset with some of AJ's pitch calls and that AJ handled it well by taking Jake into the clubhouse to discuss it. And both are joking about it when being asked about what happened by reporters. If Peavy didn't like the numbers AJ was throwing down, he always has the option to shake him off. It is his game.
  21. Yeah, everyone hates AJ. This is going to linger. Oh wait Like I said, boys will be boys," Peavy said. "We are going to say stuff to each other at times that may not sit well with the other. Talk through it and get it straight. Like I said, I love A.J. Pierzynski to death. He competes his rear end off and has for many years. He won a World Series here. I would like to do that again with him." Do the people thinking this is a huge deal ever have arguments with their wife or girlfriend or co-workers? Is any argument always the end of the relationship?
  22. Does one have to come back? I think its time for both to hit the road. If I had to chose one, it would be Ozzie, because then KW would be on manager #3. If they still sucked, JR would get a clearer view of the problem.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:03 AM) Maybe the Sox will trade him for Marquez, Betemit, and Nunez! I'm still not worried. I wasn't worried, but halfway through the season with his current numbers coupled with his decline the second half of last season has to be a huge concern. He does lead the league in strikeouts. He's basically been Carlos Zambrano as a DH.
  24. Rios didn't appear to be busting it down the line.
  25. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 06:52 PM) And that is precisely why I was so vehement with Rongey. It's a garbage argument. The Sox are trying to win, period, after all they are "all in." Juan Pierre inhibits this goal in a major way. Are you Terry? If you are, you were really good yesterday.
