3rd Base....NO....not Teahen!
Stone was on the other day saying Morel is a lock at 3B because A. Even if he doesn't hit, the Sox have plenty of offense and B. Danks and Buehrle throw cutters and Peavy is a sinkerballer. It is more important to have some defense at 3B.

3rd Base....NO....not Teahen!
Going by stats the first couple weeks of spring training to figure what's going to happen during the season usually doesn't work out. If the Sox think Morel is the answer, but then change their minds because of 21 early spring training ABs, they are in panic mode. I don't think anything has changed. Ozzie isn't trying to push Morel, he's trying to keep Teahen's confidence high. Morel doesn't need pushing. He's a rookie who probably is pressing. 21 ABs the first 2 weeks of spring training means zilch.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 12:47 AM) I understand that Millhouse is supposed to be better than Bridge, but this is all in-theory talk. I'd love for Millions to realize all that potential but I'm not sold on him hitting any grooves off our bench. I hated Bridge more than anything until he came in for Beckham. I'm still amazed by some of those balls he hit that first week. Been a fan ever since and I like him on our bench. To be someone who was impressed with a guy who had 22 hits the entire season and was 11 for his last 70 with 29 ks, its not all-theory talk you will be impressed with Lastings Milledge at the plate. In fact, you'll probably be impressed with Teahen's glove at 3B. He can string 3 or 4 good games together.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) I find this interesting: Lillibridge career minor league slash stats: .268/.348/.409/.758 Milledge career major league slash stats: .269/.328/.394/.723 Interesting, but irrelevent, especially consideing Milledge did most of his minor league work as an under 24 year old, is younger than Lillibridge and Brent has spent the last 4 seasons basically in AAA.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) I love Brent's skill set off the bench. How is having a guy who can play 6 positions, with pop and +speed so terrible? I wouldn't mind having him on the bench for 5 years. Unless The Mill is faster than The Bridge, why take him? If nothing else The Bridge is an excellent late-inning pinch runner for our slow guys. You love guys who can't hit sour apples and are shaky in the field? The Mill isn't slow, but he can't run with The Bridge. He's fast enough as a pinch runner and at least you could use The Mill to pinch hit and get an occassional start. He hits lefties well and Teahen hits righties well. The only thing the Bridge hits is the bench after an at bat. I like the names the Mill and the Bridge.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) You're looking at the entire season. Look at June and July when he got more playing time. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2010&t=b He held an average over .270 until mid September. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...p;t=b&year= Look at the stats and look at your second sentence. He played more in August and September. His stats as a starter were .171 avg. 203 OBP .234 SLG and he fanned 29 times in 76 AB. Thats like having a pitcher in your line up.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Wow, Dick Allen. You usually aren't this vicious. You must really dislike Lilly the ballplayer. I remember last year he was pretty darn good at the plate. I have a sneaky feeling both may make the team. Is that possible. If it's one or the other I think Lilly makes it. Don't Oz and Kenny both kind of have a hard on for Lillibridge? .248 OBP. 36 strikeouts in 98 ABs. 3 walks, that's pretty darn good at the plate? His OBP was actually lower than his career .254 OBP with a career .194 batting average. He's brutal. Both Oz and Kenny need a few bottles of Viagra if they are going to become semi erect thinking about Lillibridge. Ozzie in particular has never thought too highly of his approach at the plate. There's a far greater needed for someone who can pinch hit off the bench than a guy who can be the 3rd string SS. That's why Milledge makes far more sense.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I agree that Lillibridge is a valuable utility player. If he's so valuable, KW will be able to get something for him that he can send to the minors for a while.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 07:44 AM) yea and he sucks defensively in the infield. he had trouble making the throw from 2nd lol thats like saying teahen can play 3rd. is listed as being able to play 3rd but he clearly cant. ill take milledge, easily He clearly isn't going to help you win. I just think people freak out because he's out of options thinking therefore, he has to make the team. What's the difference if he's playing in Charlotte or Rochester? Its time to move on. He's never going to start. The sudden affection for him is puzzling. He's at best 3rd string right now, who may eventually if all goes right, make his way up to a 2nd string guy. They are a dime a dozen, especially guys who don't hit for any average or power and strike out a ton.

Former Tampa Bay Devil Ray owner Vince Naimoli
Considering the hoops people have to jump through to buy a MLB franchise and then be approved for membership, its amazing guys like this get through and a guy like Cuban has no chance.

A smaller sample size will surely show what he's all about. C'mon, man. The only thing he does that isn't covered by De Aza/Teahen or Milledge/Teahen is play SS, and he's not very good at that, and the Sox already have a HOF back up at that position, plus another guy who could play there in a real pinch. You're not going to send Lillibridge to pinch hit. You can with De Aza or Milledge. Brent Lillibridge, despite being able to play several positions, is not a major league baseball player.

Make it Milledge
It amazes me how much better of a player Brent Lillibridge has become over the winter without playing with a good number of posters. This guy has no business being in the major leagues. The Sox have a back up infielder in Vizquel and Teahen can play everywhere but SS in a pinch. If Ramirez and Vizquel go down in the same game, Beckham can play SS in a pinch. Lillibridge sucks and always will suck. He's out of options, so what. Let him go suck for someone else.

2011 White Sox closer
I'm going with the if its not broke, don't fix it, and keep Thornton in the 8th and make Sale the closer for 1 year. As long as he's healthy, the White Sox will make Sale a starter eventually for anyone who really thinks they will not. John Hart was comparing him to Randy Johnson. That's a little crazy IMO, but the White Sox think he'll be a star.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) If they suspended Tressel for the entire season, that'd be a more than fair punishment IMO. I honestly am not even looking for that much, just more than 2 games against MAC teams. It should be longer than the suspension the players received. It makes little sense its not.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) It's the NCAA so it make take years, but I'm curious to see their final report on this whole situation. Because that press conference led to more questions than answers, and there were already a ton of questions in the first place. No, you received your answers. The AD is afraid of the football coach. The AD is supposed to be Tressel's boss, but at Ohio State and a lot of other schools to be fair, its apparently the other way around. I personally think the NCAA is going to come down a lot harder on this major rules infraction. The suspension for 2 games against glorified high school teams is a joke as is the fine. He'll wind up getting the money he's out with the fine back in no time. It would be at least a little defensible if this guy who included integrity as a large part in his book, would have admitted he didn't mention anything because he was scared, scared not because some drug guy was involved, not because he was afraid for his players, but because he was afraid what coming clean would have done to the Buckeyes chances at a national title in 2010. He's always come across as a classy figure. That was all a bunch of BS. He's as slimy as they come.

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) Of course not. The guy makes a BCS Bowl every year, and thus makes the school large sums of money. Unless he did something that was going to get the school the death penalty, he would never be fired. Even if he such action should at least be considered, seeing as sitting on info about potential major violations for 8 months is rather brutal. I like how he made those kids commit to coming back to school (which benefits him, not them) when it turns out he's violating the NCAA rules as well. Some integrity. So sitting on potential rules violations for 8 months isn't cheating? Isn't one of the first thing they tell a coach is to report any potential violations they are made aware of? I know you're an OSU fan deluxe, but come on. It's hard for any person not wearing scarlet and grey to look at this story and not think Tressel was trying to hide this for the sake of the 2010 season. Not to defend the kids who were guilty of violations, but I find what Tressel did a lot worse than what they did personally. In fact, a story I read said the word any was underlined in his contract. Tressel is another phony cheat. Now he's all dissappointed with himself. Like Pearl, the only thing he's dissappointed in is getting caught.

ST: 3/8 vs Rockies
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) Well, he got 2 hits off Felipe Paulino today, he is a major leaguer. His 3rd hit was off of Eric Stults, another major leaguer. He got a double off of Joe Martinez. He has 50 career innings, but is more of a AAAA guy I think. Got a hit off Jensen Lewis, who is a major leaguer. Another hit off of Jess Todd, who has 28 career innings. Those are from the past 2 games, so yeah, most hits were off of major league pitchers. Viciedo can hit, but to get excited about how anyone is hitting on March 8th is really stretching it.

3/6: ST Sox vs Royals
QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) Omar Vizquel. That was decided before ST. Lillibridge for back-up infield and pinch runner. Teahen because he is under contract for 2 years That leaves two spots that are open. I like Danks and Viciedo because of their potential upside. They would be a minor upgrade over Kotsay and Andruw Jones, IMO. Milledge is a better overall player and probably has a better shot than either Danks or Viciedo, but I like Danks left hand bat and Viciedo's is a better hitter than Milledge will ever be right now. Most likely, Lillibridge is in his final weeks as a White Sox employee. He'll either be traded for some used gum and or chew, or be sent to the minor leagues where he will have to pass through waivers. It is extremely posssible he makes it through, but then he'll have to decide if the summer in Charlotte is worth it to him or a summer at some other minor league city. I believe he will choose to walk. Jordan Danks isn't much of a prospect. He's the same age as Beckham and hasn't mastered making contact in AAA yet and has little power.

ST: 3/5 Sox-Indians
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 5, 2011 -> 10:59 PM) The Sox are probably some 40-50 games below .500 in the preseason during the Ozzie era. He should be used to it. Spring Training records don't mean much, games usually end with a line up filled guys you may never see wearing a White Sox uniform in a game that will matter. I think he's concerned with how the guys who are expected to contribute are playing, especially considering the emphasis the White Sox are making on a fast start this year. It does seem way too early to panic. It seems the only thing we really have learned is Teahen is still a lousy thirdbaseman. That's not exactly a shock.
