White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) From my understanding they were willing to throw all but 1 million. No, they wanted LA to pick up all but $1 million.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (Real @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Watch Jerry OK a waiver claim on Manny Too much cash. If they were only willing to throw $1 million now, they aren't going to want to throw a lot more than that for a shorter period of time.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
We are minutes away from the : "I believe in the talent. We were only going to do something that made sense. There were some interesting offers out there, but ultimately we felt they did not make the White Sox better" speech.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
I though DH only players were bad. They wouldn't seriously have put Manny in LF from time to time would they? I love how Cowley is now the guy believing he broke this story. No Joe you didn't.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:40 AM) Cowley is already saying that this was his "shocker" story, of which he know of no names at the time he was spreading this rumor. Considering he said they were working on a shocker and Rosenthal just said the Sox were rejected right away it again is just Cowley justifying his generic BS. Everyone on this board knows KW is asking about everyone. I'm sure he's even asking about more that would be shockers today. BTW, the story is the Sox wanted LA to pay Manny's entire contract save $1 million and wanted to send no prospects. It was easily rejected.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) Why is there never pressure on Greg Walker to fix any hitter we get? Some are acting like Cooper can make just one small or slight mechanical adjustment in Jackson and his ERA will go from 5+ in the NL to minus 3.50 in the American League...I'd like to believe it's THAT simple, but I just hope KW and Cooper know what they're doing. Hopefully Jackson, if we actually end up holding on to him, hits the ground running. Interestingly, his first start would come against his former team, the Tigers, who are scuffling to stay in the race and are on life support these days. Thankfully, it will be in a pitcher's park where he feels comfortable. You certainly cannot believe Greg Walker gets a pass and the pressure is on Cooper. That really is beyond a reach. Supposedly KW said they noticed a flaw with Jackson. Maybe its just talk, but he was pretty good in the AL in 2008 and 2009 and can bring it up there at 97. Who knows, maybe if Peavy is healthy and Freddy comes back next year, Jackson is a closer.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:31 PM) I know he did... but he was also the first to say there's a hold up. I was following everyone at that point and Heyman, Rosenthal, etc were still saying 'on the verge', 'imminent', etc... It was imminent. It did happen in the morning. Cowley got his original info from those tweets and message boards.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) I have a difficult time believing that the Nats would have such a massive hard-on for Jackson in the first place. It does seem odd that he would be a target, but its not just the White Sox who felt this way, so it probably is true.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) He didn't start saying the 'off the radar' stuff until later, and really that was him just speculating because he didn't have a name. You may think he's full of it, but he was the first one to say hold off on Jackson while the national media was saying the deal would be done any minute (like around 7 this morning). No. He first said the deal could be done in the morning. Look at his posts. Anyone of us with no source could have come up with that. Easily. You will see if you ever really follow him, how innaccurate a lot of his stuff is. He just deflects people from looking at his errors by taking potshots at others.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
Maybe if they don't get anyone, they give Viciedo some time at DH and he runs with it. Again, if he ever learns how to get on base other than by a hit, he could be a beast.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) The way I see it, Cowley's original tweet that the Jackson deal was on hold was the Sox finding out they could get Berkman. Berkman turned down the Sox trade offer, and the Sox went ahead with the Jackson deal and Berkman signed with the Yankees. But he said huge and off the radar. Berkman was far from off the radar. Joe is full of it. He likes to rip others, but his "sources" failed him again. In fact, his original tweet said the deal was so large, the Jackson deal would be off. The Sun Times probably gives him a bonus based on the hits his twitter account gets.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) The thing with Cowley is he always like to say how numerous reporters are given false scoop by KW and company in order to keep the actual moves under the radar. I guess Cowley doesn't realize he's one of these reporters who is being used. That's true. He basically wrote an article earlier how KW loves the misinformation out there and basically inferred KW may be responsible for it. Then he leaks the Sox are working on something huge, but he has no names. He gets played by KW and the Guillens more than anyone.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:08 PM) Remember how one of the justifications for the rotating DH was that we could easily fill the spot if we had to by the deadline? We can all admit that was bunk now, right? We can still make a a move by tomorrow, but it sure wasn't the walk in the park that management seemed to think it'd be. The people who always talk about midseason additions are always fooling themselves. Its a lot easier to sign a free agent than make a trade with a team on July 31.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) I'm sorry, but KW has no one to blame but himself if all this is true. If you're making what equates to a 3-way deal, you better make sure all teams are 100% sure. You make a 3 way deal. Not do it in pieces, but if Rizzo gave his word that getting Jackson would get you Dunn, and now he's singing a different tune, his days as a GM are more than likely numbered. I like to give KW a hard time, but if someone went back on their word, he's blameless here even if he was a little careless not doing it as a 3 way. If that was the plan, it appears all of Cowley's crap was total BS.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) Yeah, I heard Cowley say that. Still wonder why KW would have hesitated on Jackson though unless there was another pitcher to get - or unless he thought he needed Hudson for the other deal. The Myers/Berkman thing just kind of seems to fit nicely - doesn't mean it wasn't BS though. He might have hesitated because Hudson might have been part of another deal. I'm glad the wife beater isn't going to be a White Sox.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) Hard to tell, but I get the feeling he didn't know any specific names. And technically, he IS a source. He's there at the stadium and with the team every single day. He knows as much about the goings on in the organization as anyone. As much of a douche as he is, he knows what he's talking about. He wasn't at the park the last few days. His tweets were all a bunch of BS. He was late to the Jackson party then said KW is working on something that would call the Jackson trade off. Then 17 minutes later said they both could happen. All after writing an article stating how KW loves to work with misinformation in the air. He's full of it this time. There was nothing that any one of the posters on this board couldn't have posted. We all know KW is trying to hit a home run.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
LMAO at Cowley who tweeted this a couple of hours ago saying he is "hearing from people" it may go down this morning. Really Joe? You're only about 7 hours late. Did he call his "source" at 4 AM for that tidbit? What a phony. Now go wash Oney's car.

Kila Ka'aihue
He is a 26 year old who couldn't make the Royals. Its about all you really need to know.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 06:18 AM) Jackson has a 5+ ERA in NL this year. Last year, he was pretty good for the Tigers, but why would we expect a sudden turnaround this season in a pennent race? Maybe they see a flaw they think is an easy fix. His final 2 AL years weren't bad for a 4th starter. I wouldn't be doing a jig if they made this trade, but if Jackson cut his walk rate down, he'd probably be a star, of course you can say that about a lot of guys who will probably never cut their walk rate down. Also if they made the trade you will know what they really think about Hudson. They are still going to need a bat. This hot streak has been nice, but realistically they are going to go through some tough streaks again, and will need another run producer. Peavy going down was a huge blow. He was starting to dominate. They could have focused on a huge bat and really would have been sitting pretty. It is ironic that walks are what is giving people doubts about Hudson, and walks are something Jackson has trouble with as well. Maybe they will Thornton him.

Ted Lilly traded to Dodgers
I can't see the Cubs theoretically helping the Sox out.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
To me it would really be an upset if the Sox get Dunn. How often have they been tied to be close to getting someone and then it doesn't happen? It seems almost all the deals they make appear out of the blue.

Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) Beckham killed it but no carry. The ball does not carry at USCF if you hit it at the CF scoreboard, unless you are Jim Thome and hit it way above it.

Mariners (Vargas 6-5, 2.94) @ White Sox (Buehrle 9-8, 3.96)
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Viciedo is really clueless how to play the 3rd base position. 1st and 2nd, no outs for Seattle. At least the White Sox realize it and had him playing 1B in the minors.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) Viciedo had two disappointing years in the minors and has shown no ability to draw walks. Smoak kicked ass at every level he played at...he's considered a better prospect than Beckham. Unfortunately I don't think Viciedo has 1/3 the value Smoak has. I wouldn't call them dissappointing, obviously not as good as Smoak's minor league totals but he was definitely trending upward. Smoak was definitely trending downward. Don't get me wrong, if I were a GM and was offered Smoak, I'd take him in a heartbeat, however, there are more than a couple of scouts that have really soured on him. Obviously Viciedo has to learn how to get on base without getting a hit at least once in a while. His weight will always be an issue. You probably are going to have to keep checking on him during the offseason or he may come to spring training 50 lbs. heavier. But it does appear he will be able to hit major league pitching and probably pretty well. 2 months of Adam Dunn doesn't have the value of 3 months of Cliff Lee either. I wish Ozzie would let him DH. Maybe the Sox wouldn't need another bat.

Zambrano worth the risk?
If the Cubs ate half Zambrano's contract, would you trade Linebrink and Teahen for him?
