If Anorexei went into second hard with the intention of taking out the fielder and preventing a DP, he wouldn't have been injured. -

Kotsay is nothing and he's going to play too much. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) yeah, they were saying he was afraid of the wall last night. I didn't think that was the case, and I just think he really struggles on fly balls when he has to run to a spot. I was in LF last night, almost right behind that ball in row 3 which is the first row they let people sit in. It appeared Pods was all over it initially, then he just collapsed. I was hot. I didn't think it was the wall either, he really wasn't that close to it. -

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Levine's about as useful as a balm bag, but there's probably some validity to this. After all, last spring training when he played the outfield, Alexei was pretty clearly afraid of the wall. Cowley said the same thing about Pods, he said Pods plays the wall like its got an electric current running through it. -

I like the AJ approach not to even bother throwing a lot better than the throw it into CF that Castro prefers. -

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) All those guys except Quentin are pitchers (Cooper the magician)...and while having a great 3/4 year last year and loaded with potential, Quentin has serious durability concerns. He didn't stay healthy in Arizona and has not stayed healthy here. David Aardsma has done better after leaving the White Sox. So has Masset. But what's funny is the hypothetical, if BA and Fields do well elsewhere its all on Walker, however, Quentin playing like an MVP has very little to do with Walker. Its BS. The fire Walker train has run its course and has derailed. Give it a rest.

I came back from Minneapolis today. Anyone planning a road trip next year, the new park there is going to be awesome. I checked it out as much as I could and on TV they had a show on it. Downtown Minneapolis is pretty nice and The Hotel Minneapolis at $42 a night on priceline, outstanding. I highly recommend. -
Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Dick...there's a stat in the Trib, which was posted earlier about Kotsay being the second best pinch hitter (active based on 50 PAs) right now. That has been a HUGE problem for the Sox this year. And Kotsay's defense at 1B is pretty good. Wise isn't good, but he tries. Fields isn't good and either isn't listening or isn't capable. Either way, as much as I like him...it's time for a change of scenery. Anderson had his chances, didn't listen to his coaches, partied a bit too much and over-all didn't back up his own crowing and therefore, I'd much rather have myself a Mark Kotsay and cash than a Michael Dubee and...well, Michael Dubee. I honestly believe 2009 Kotsay -

Here is an interesting BA stat from baseballthinkfactory.com: In his 89 plate appearances this year when he got off to a 1-0 count, Anderson batted .329 with a .472 on-base percentage and .457 slugging. But in his 89 plate appearances this year when he got off to an 0-1 count, Anderson batted .129 with a .169 on-base percentage and .153 slugging. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) The same crede that had a cortizone shot in the past week? The guy who is DHing for the Twins? Thats just a great idea Crede got hurt on a dive and jammed his shoulder so you never know if he would have been hurt with the White Sox, but who cares? One good think about Fields not being able to catch up to mediocre fastballs and Crede signing with Minnesota is we get to watch Gordon Beckham play baseball.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) I'm not so sure there. And Kotsay can hit a baseball. Kotsay isn't much of a hitter at this point, but considering in his last 133 AB in the major leagues, Wise has 20 hits with 6 walks, and a .150 AVG. Kotsay should be playing ahead of him. Its amazing Wise is on the club. Its sickening he was allowed to make the final out last night. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) You don't think Fields could have been shopped last winter to get a much better prospect/player? As well as BA? Now they are scraps. In the offseason, Fields was taking over for Crede to the delight of all the Crede bashers. He was our starter with some promise. Now he's nothing but garbage on the trade market. BA also was likely to be our starter. Now we get old Kotsay for him? Scraps. Fields wasn't worth anything this past offseason. The time to deal him was when he hit a bunch of homers and people around here thought he'd hit 50 a season. But Crede was no sure thing and KW thought Fields was a potential all star so he wasn't going anywhere unless they got Cabrera or someone like that. They won't be the last high draft picks that became worthless quickly, and its not just something that happens to White Sox players.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Boston isn't offering Buchholz. They'd be stupid to do so, quite frankly. Why, Haladay may be the best pitcher in baseball. Boston would have him for at least 2 postseason runs and probably more. Beckett and Haladay is an unbelievable 1-2 punch.

AJ having words with Ramirez in the dugout isn't a public lashing IMO. We didn't hear what was said, we can only guess and probably guess correctly. The fact is Alexei's concentration level has been anemically low this season. This is a big series. He's playing like a p****. They always said when Ozzie played he said whatever was on his mind to his teammates and that made him a leader. Why would any other player be different? As long as Ramirez's intensity level waffles, there should be a few more White Sox willing to get in his face. I do think Alexei should get a day off. Last year, everytime they gave him one, he can back very strong. He needs to step it up.

I was in the Metrodome last night and a guy told me Garland to the White Sox with Poreda to AZ. Straight up makes zero sense, and I have no idea his source, but it would have to include others IMO. With Colon experiencing elbow issues it could be something that at least partially happens.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Is he going to buy Jenks an expensive bottle of Pepsi instead? No, instead of Crown Royal, he gets a 2 liter Royal Crown.

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?po...p;name=friedell I've got to give Buehrle some creative points for this gift. It seems like the type of present that each one of the players and coaches actually will keep on their shelves at home. My only question now is this: Which one of his teammates will actually take a celebratory drink from the $180 bottle? Sounds to me like this was Crown Royal's idea.

Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay
Dick Allen replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) Why? Kotsay is now the backup 1B. Beckham plays almost every day at 3B. Wise can play all the outfield positions better than Kotsay. Wise shouldn't be on the team, but Fields has nowhere to play at all now with Kotsay here. Kotsay plays the OF and 1b and hits LH. Wise plays the OF. Fields can play 1B or 3B and bats RH. Kotsay and Wise are basically used for the same thing, except Wise won't be used at 1B and if there is a game where Kotsay is at 1B and Wise is in the line-up, there's a pretty good chance the Sox will lose that day. If anyone doesn't have a place to play with the Kotsay love (see Erstad, Darin) its Wise, and maybe that's a good thing, however with both on the roster, you may see the Sox piss away games playing both at the same time.
