  1. Bring in Poreda for s***s and giggles.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) Seems like Bobby's WHIP lately must be around 3 He looked like the World Series Jenks the first 2 hitters. I think his confidence is lacking right now. He's waiting for something to go wrong.
  3. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) OK I know. BA would have caught that Ron Kittle would have caught it.
  4. I love when Jenks strikes people out.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 09:45 PM) I tell ya what. With Maddon's knowledge, and learning about the game, Dave Martinez is gonna be one hell of a manager someday. Everyone in the organization will have to lock up their wives. Didn't he have some fun with Sandburg's ex?
  6. Fields was like having the pitcher bat tonight. I think Baltimore would be a good place for him.
  7. Jenks has given up runs his last 3 outings. He got his last 2 saves while giving up 2 runs both times. He's going to be tested tonight.
  8. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 07:21 AM) i'd really like Halladay but if those names being thrown around are true the Sox definitely won't be frontrunners, or even in the mix. Nor could i blame them. Still, it would be awfully nice to have a guy who's going to go out and, most likely, shut down whatever team he's facing. Hawk and Stone I believe were letting the fanbase know to stop the Halladay dreams yesterday. They mentioned Philadelphia and Boston as destinations and a couple more teams, never even mentioning the beloved.
  9. QUOTE (Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) One was bases loaded, one is with a man on, much different situations. Did you really think Poreda was going to succeed int hat situation, never being in that situation, with how much he has played? How many times has he come in with a guy on? Probably none. So why would he be successful then? Did he even throw one strike today? The pitch that was swung at wasn't a strike.
  10. QUOTE (Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) I was not advocating putting him in the starting lineup without giving more repetitive chances out of the bullpen. To see if he could gradually adjust to MLB level of play. You know like one of the 10,000,000 times Ozzie goes to Linebrink on zero rest with a runner on, put in Poreda. Build confidence dont break it down, how many times does breaking someone really work? Oh, so put him in the exact position you criticized Ozzie putting him today?
  11. QUOTE (Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) So you think putting Poreda in a situation in which he had to be perfect, with location, with the game on a line, needing two outs with the bases loaded..... Is a good test. I would see a little bit of your point if he was getting even semi-regular work in a real game setting, not a spot start in some weak situation every week. If you haven't put Poreda in regular spots with runners on, and the game on the line, why do you make the jump when he has sat for almost two weeks into that spot unless you are Ozzie, just being Ozzie. He walked both guys he faced. It was awful. Do you think Ozzie should put him in the rotation so the other manager can stack his line-up against him and do you think that will all of a sudden make Poreda throw the ball over the plate? If he pisses his pants because the bases are loaded on July 18th in the 5th inning against the Baltimore Orioles, he's not ready to play for a contender in the major leagues. He needs to post an APB on the 97 mph fastball he was supposed to possess.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) He should have never been promoted. I know for a fact that Beckham was promoted as a power struggle between KW and Ozzie, but I have no idea why Poreda was promoted. If anything, the stint in the majors has hurt his trade value while potentially hurting his development. All you had to do is look at his walk numbers and pitches per innings in the minors to see that he wouldn't cut it up here. He's a one pitch pitcher with no command, and that one pitch, is apparently only a slightly above average 92 mph fastball. He looks like a future loogy to me.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) If we're not going to give Poreda regular work, send him down. Because those 2 walks were a perfect example of why he shouldn't be in the bullpen. Seriously, our long relief has been complete utter s***. Walks out of the bullpen almost hurt more than grand slams. The two walks and now 8 in 11 innings are exactly why he should be in the bullpen. He wouldn't last 4 innings regularly as a starter until he figures something else out.
  14. QUOTE (Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Why are people praising Ozzie for this move with Poreda? This was a terrible move and Ozzie just sticking it to the fans media, I cant wait for him to tout Wise lone HR for plugging him in today either. Ozzie is the mental midget, he slams the kid in the media, never plays him. Then says I'll show you and puts in a situation to fail. I dont know many rookies who would succeed in that situation at all. That was seriously classless indeed, and it show that Ozzie Guillen could never handle a youth movement because he always has to prove something to these "kids" always trying to tear them down. I kind of feel the way he treats BA, Fields, the other young players through the years has been terrible and has done more harm, mentally, physically.... then good. We are just lucky that Beckham is such a sure thing and confidence in abundance that Ozzie dumb comments couldn't even dent him. So Ozzie is an idiot for not using Poreda and an idiot for using him. This was the exact opportunity I was talking about in a different thread where Poreda would have an opportunity to earn Ozzie's trust. Sorry, getting guys out in AA is a lot different than getting them out in the majors. In fact, Poreda would have an ugly ERA if he were in the position a lot of people want him to be in, that being in the rotation. He had a chance today and walked both guys he faced. I'm all for ripping Ozzie setting guys up to fail, but 2 batters 2 walks, that's on Poreda.
  15. The last 30 days or so, the Sox offense is ranked #1 in just about every major category. So there is still a chance. I wonder what the Sox record is the past couple of seasons for 3 game series in which they won the first 2. Its almost automatic they lose.
  16. Poreda has to get in the rotation. We'd see Carassco in the 2nd inning.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:59 AM) Sometimes 1+1=2 Ozzie doesn't think he is ready, and Kenny has already tried to trade him. There is very little doubt in my mind Poreda will be moved for something at the deadline, or over the winter. He dealt him in a pretty one-sided deal for one of the best pitchers in baseball. I'm sure he's talked trade and offered players who still play for the Sox in trades maybe even years ago. While I don't think Poreda's stock is as high with the White Sox as it is with some on this board, I don't think his departure is immenent. KW traded Garland for Erstand. When that fell through, Garland was a valued member of the White Sox for several years.
  18. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 07:30 AM) Is it me or have KW and Ozzie really disagreed a lot this year on player development from AA/AAA to the bigs and Ozzie has been over ruled on more than one occasion? He seems to have been against Slayer coming up and certainly Poreda. But KW won´t over rule him on his mancrush on Wise which is what I don´t get. Not a very clear cut decision making year IMO. KW likes to break guys in through the bullpen, and it makes a lot of sense. A lot of people just assume Poreda would be a better starter than Richard, and maybe in time he would, but right now there is zero evidence to suggest that. Remember, Ozzie gets to pick and choose the situations Poreda gets to pitch in now, making most of his match-ups favorable. If he was the starter, the opposite would be true. So far Poreda is throwing 92-94 most of the time with questionable secondary pitches. Basically, his fastball which has been his moneymaker, is, using KW's terms, a tick below Richard's, and since his command and secondary pitches, which even his biggest admirers would admit are major league questionable, you have a guy who would probably not have any better result than Richard. Just keep him where he is, let him get comfortable and let Ozzie get comfortable using him when the match-up isn't in his favor. There will be a game that goes 14 innings or the bullpen is used up where Poreda is going to have to step up, if he shines there, Ozzie will feel more comfortable using him more out of the bullpen.
  19. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) Maybe they feel pretty confident about Quentin coming back. That was his point. Pods to CF.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) Beckham is arguably our best hitter, right now. Amazing from a guy who has scouts on his ass the minute that 0-20 was his primary offensive statistic. I don't think anyone a month ago would have though Beckham would be flirting with .300 on July 18th.
  21. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) This may sound weird, but in a way, I kind of like it when the bullpen falters and we win anyway. It makes me thinks they'll perform better next time. We're on our way, baby! Didn't the Sox win the game Jose Paniagua was featured? Hawk still talks about it. While I really wonder if his outing had anything really to do with the Twins overtaking the White Sox in 2003, if your guys are starting to get hit around, it has to be concerning. It may be they just had 4 days off and were anticipating it beforehand, and are trying to get their feet under them afterward. I hope it is because the Sox can't win if Linebrink, Thornton and Jenks struggle for very long.
  22. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) 21/23 Shingo was 8/9 when he was replaced. Jenks has to get better. He's been struggling lately.
  23. Per Gammons, KW won't be picking up an OF.
