  1. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) I wouldn't be suprised if CQ is our DH next year. No, he'll be in the field. He has something that will go away, and possibly never come back. It just takes quite a long time. I've had it and it took at least 2 months and even then I wasn't pounding my feet like Quentin, I went for no impact exercising although I do walk a lot. Nocioni had it with the Bulls and eventually returned and has played basketball over a year now without incident. The only question I have, is Quentin one of these guys who the injury bug will bite every year. None of his injuries appear related, that almost scares me. Some guys just seem more apt at being injured than others.
  2. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) They're looking to trade Chris Snyder now since Miguel Montero has come on, and he's due 16M over the next 3 years. So I think they'd obviously rather ship off some other assets before Haren if they can. DBacks ownership has said they will not lower payroll. It will remain the same or rise. Haren is going nowhere, and if you think the price for Halladay is outrageous, Haren price would make that seem cheap.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) No Fox Sox game here today. I have to watch the Angels-A's. In fact I don't see any Sox coverage on WGN this weekend either. Well maybe the XM radio will suffice. I don't know if you have cable or satellite, but there is a free MLB extra innings preview through July 22. Obviously won't work for the Fox games, but every other one should be OK.
  4. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) After the Tony Pena acquisition that wouldn't surprise me, but you'd have to look at which teams out there would give up some good prospects to get Jenks in the 1st place. Maybe the Phillies, TB, ironically Toronto could use Jenks, but probably doesn't want to pay him what they would have to pay him next year. Its probably the main reason I think KW wouldn't mind dealing him. The White Sox historically have paid starting pitchers a lot of money, but haven't shelled out the big cabbage to closers. Once it was time for them to really start cashing in, they were gone. I really don't think Jenks will be any different, and while he's been a good closer, there's always been something about him that makes me feel he's a house of cards. His save pct. is fine, outstanding even, but it just wouldn't surprise me if one day and pretty soon, like in the next year or 2, he just lost it. To be honest, 4 years ago, I thought he probably would be flamed out by now, so I could be totally off on this, but I don't think I'm off on the White Sox wanting no part in paying him what they will be required to pay him next season and beyond.
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 08:44 AM) I agree that prospects have definitely been expendable under KW's reign. But the package that's being proposed for Halladay, eh I'm just wary of giving up that much talent. I mean don't get me wrong, Halladay's a stud SP. But he's also thrown a lot of innings over the years, and there's always the risk of injury for a pitcher like him. I think he'll end up at either the Dodgers (who are starting to struggle a little) or the Phillies anyways, but I'd never count KW out of anything. I don't think KW is going to decimate his farm system either, but I definitely could see some sort of 3 way deal where Jenks goes and maybe another White Sox prospect or 2 and Halladay winds up with the Sox.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 01:58 AM) Lol, looks like we won't be getting Halladay and the Jays aren't very serious about trading him anyway, if that report is accurate. No way is KW, or any GM, gonna trade Flowers, Viciedo, Danks2, Poreda, and one of Ricard/Hudson/Carter for 1.5 years of Halladay. The most I'd offer is Alexei, Poreda, and a couple mid-level prospects. If that doesn't get it done, oh well. I'd rather keep basically the majority of our future. Even though he hasn't ever done it before, maybe KW flips Jenks for some prospects and use some of those plus maybe a little kicker for Halladay. Jenks has had a nice ride with the Sox but Jenks vs. Halladay is a no brainer. Another thing people should keep in mind is while a lot of White Sox prospects are having a ton of success in the minors, it probably is going to take them a while to be very successful in the majors, if they even are at all. On the scoreboard last night, they had the rookie RBI leader in the entire AL with 23, that means Getz , who a lot of people here think can't play, leads all AL rookies with 16 doubles and is 1 off the lead in RBI. (Beckham is only 2 or 3 off). That's every AL team. Another interesting note, Octavial Dotel has more strikeouts out of the bullpen than any other pitcher since 2000, and his k/9 innings is top 3 in the modern era. This according to the scoreboard last night.
  7. He just earned my vote for whatever he ever runs for.
  8. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 07:22 AM) I don't mind the firing of Tallon but to replace him with a guy without experience at being a GM, I think is a bit much. Then again I suppose he will be relying a lot on his dad too...so who knows. Especially considering Tallon could only be fired by contract issues and Sassone wrote this: Stan Bowman has been with the organization for eight years, the last two as assistant GM. Bowman was responsible for matters pertaining to th e collective bargaining agreement and contract negotiations. So if he's overpaying for some players, he's getting replaced by the guy who negotiates. Don't all contracts have to be approved by someone higher than Tallon anyway? Isn't anyone checking on the contracts going out in the mail except for Tallon? I think for all the Tallon haters, this is going to be a case of be careful what you wish for, of course if the Hawks don't win, they will just say its because Tallon put them against the wall with the cap
  9. Is she the one who was on Dancing With the Stars and gave her partner wood?
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) No I'm with you completely. He is 20 years old, in a foreign country that speaks another language, away from everything he is a familiar with and playing in AA. He is hitting .260 and has almost 50 RBI at the break. Yeah, I'd love to see his power numbers better but come on. How can this be construed as upsetting? Most 20 year olds are playing in college, rookie or low-A ball at this point in their careers. Viciedo was selected as an all-star in AA. I'm very content with how he has done this year. Obviously I expect an improvement next year but if he needs all year in the minors again that's fine. If he comes up in 2011 we still get him for 4 years. Its all expectation. Many thought Viciedo would be on the White Sox this year tearing up the AL. You're right, putting everything into perspective he's really not doing any worse than could be expected. Its just like when Michael Jordan played baseball in Birmingham. Sure his numbers sucked, but what would anyone expect from a guy who hadn't played baseball at a higher level than high school and even that being 15 years ago. Putting it into perspective, Jordan did a lot better than 99.9% of people would have done.
  11. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) Buy Mode, but we will have to wait until the end of the month. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Arjc...ype=team_report Ironically, if he picked up a couple of pieces before the trip he could theoretically make that trip more successful. I don't buy that report. If there is a deal that can help the Sox win and they can afford it, KW will make it sooner rather than later. At worst, its one less thing he'll have to try to acquire in the off season.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Stoney appears to be sick. You can hear him coughing in the background from time to time. I think he finally gave up considering the game is out of hand... He had a plane to catch.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Been flipping on and off, did Stone leave? He had a plane home to AZ to catch.
  14. White Sox looking at Halladay? There's a good chance White Sox general manager Ken Williams is looking into Roy Halladay, though in an e-mail he wrote, "I don't kiss and tell." Williams recently traded for Arizona reliever Tony Pena, and it might be he can trim payroll by dealing closer Bobby Jenks, who makes $5.6 million and appears to be in demand. Boston Globe
  15. If someone told you Mauer would be 0 for with 4 strikeouts today, I wouldn't think the Sox would give up 13. Josh Fields has been located.
  16. Mauer having a hell of a game.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Everytime I see him play, it seems he hits the ball extrmeely hard. Hell, he hit the ball hard against Cy Lilly this year also. He must be terrible every other game. Every time I see the guy, while not quite at Hawk's admiration level, I wish the Sox had him.
  18. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) Gomez wishes he played every game against us I bet It does show he has a ton of ability. He's only 23. If he ever puts it together, he's going to be a pain for years.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) It's the curse of Hawk's boner I'm sure Hawk has blown goo a couple of times today, no viagra needed.
  20. How much different is the Sox scouting report on Gomez compared to the rest of baseball?
  21. That last pitch was nasty. Stone gets a lot time off for such a cushy job.
  22. I think what everyone who wants Poreda to take Richard's spot in the rotation need to remember is while Poreda has better numbers now, Ozzie gets to pick his spots and his match-ups. If he's in the rotation, the opposition would be able to set their line-up against him. I personally don't think Poreda is ready to start for a contender and would be much better off having Ozzie determine who he will face, so he can build some confidence.
  23. He hit it well. Pods now only 1 RBI short of his 2005 totals.
  24. 2005 Pods was 0-7 with the bases loaded with 1 RBI, which he got by walking.
