White Sox Single Game Tickets
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I got 4 for each game. They would have been gone in previous years because they gave first access to brokers and full seasons When I was on earlier, they said I had less than 1 minute, then it went to 2,3,4... up until 9. I finally got some but if I have a place in line I wonder why the time goes higher. I really think brokers have some sort of access to jump the line.

White Sox Single Game Tickets
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) I read it as 4 per game not 4 for the whole series. My error. I'm more like Josh Fields than I care to believe.

JOE.CREDE. = Twinkie
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Big difference between being named to an All Star Team and being an All Star caliber player. Joe Crede has never had an All Star caliber season even though he's been named to a team, he's also never even come close to a Silver Slugger caliber season but was awarded one in 2006 because everyone hates Alex Rodriguez. It's also rather silly to call a player gold glove caliber when he's never won a gold glove or a Fielding Bible award. So you're saying if he makes an All Star team it doesn't make him an all star calibur player, and although he won a Silver Slugger, that doesn't necessarily make him Silver Slugger-calibur. But then said he can't be considered Gold Glove calibur because he's never won the award. That's not very consistent. If you're saying players get these accolades without deserving them, that would mean players who do deserve them don't get them. While I agree he didn't deserve the SS award, its ridiculous to say he's not or at least was a GG-calibur defensive player even without winning the award. If a player has an MVP-calibur season, it doesn't mean he won the MVP, it says his season was worthy enough to win one. There were 2or 3 years at least, no one would have scratched their heads if Crede won a GG.

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I still don't think the Sox offered 8M. They didn't. I think they were throwing that out there to see if it would interest them. Its about what the Reds were, at least at one time, rumored to be willing to pay Dye, so maybe they were checking to see if they were able to re-visit that, get something for Dye and pay Abreu, the cost would be a wash and Dye would go for whatever they received for him + Abreu. I don't think any team is willing to pick up Dye even if the White Sox eat $3 million now, the market has dropped that much. In October or November, it probably wouldn't have been a problem.

Dayán Viciedo BP Session
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) Yes. He signed a $10 million(or so) 4 year deal. The only way that would work out to a 4 year deal is if the sox signed that standard "we'll release you after x years" clause. Otherwise it couldn't be a 4 year deal. Why not? They usually have 6 years of control. They basically would be buying out 1 year of arb?

Dayán Viciedo BP Session
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) The thing to remember is we only have him on a 4 year contract. We get him for 4 years no matter what level he's at, then he becomes a FA. If he spends 3 years in the minors, we'd get virtually no time of him in the big leagues before he's a FA. We gain no time by keeping him in the minors. It actually behooves the sox to rush him, because it's our best shot at recouping our investment. Has it been confirmed the White Sox agreed to waive his arb? I know its regularly done with players from Cuba and Japan, but perhaps because of his age, they held on to that.

Why aren't we pursuing O-dog?
QUOTE (beck72 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Cafardo of the Boston Globe had this nugget that the Sox, Cubs and Dodgers are after Hudson. The Sox would seem in the best spot to add Hudson quicker than the other two, with the Cubs sale and the Dodgers looking to add their big bat, ala Manny first. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...t_go_by/?page=5 Even though Hudson would cost the sox a draft pick, the top of the order would be adressed. Depending on how Getz and Lillibridge look in spring training, O-Dog, according to a couple of reports, one being Steve Stone, may be looked at as a CF. Supposedly, Lillibridge can play CF, but Getz is an infielder. Hudson is probably a one year stop gap way below market value in preparation for Beckham. Come to think of it, I beleive if the White Sox sign Hudson, it would be specifically to play CF. Ozzie has already said Beckham will have to switch from being a SS because of Ramirez, so he most likely will be a 2B. Getz and Lillibridge and Nix probably don't have much of a long-term future with this team as anything but a utility player unless there's a major injury.

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) If someone can sign Abreu for $3M then why would they take Dye who is making about $12M? Reading these post one would think Dye should be valued at about $150K for all the respect he is given.. Dye is superior to Abreu IMO. Not that Bobby isn't a good player, but if he is still unsigned and only worth $3M then maybe there is something more wrong than just the economy? No one is taking Dye. I think the $3 million is a downward exaggeration, but if its not, he's a steal. Only about $1 million more than the White Sox paid Toby Hall last year to basically make shaving cream pies.

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
The Boston Globe is reporting Abreu may have to take $3 million a year. In the same article: Orlando Hudson, 2B, free agent: It's amazing that a player of this caliber remains unsigned, but lining up are the Cubs, White Sox, and Dodgers. A few Cubs organizational people really want Hudson, but the impending transfer of ownership from the Chicago Tribune to Tom Ricketts may hinder GM Jim Hendry's ability to do anything until it's complete.

Is KW actually watching the Dow Jones or being a jerk?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) There is about zero comparison between the economics of the 2007 off season and the 2008 off season. There is no rational to connect our actions of last year to this year. The world has completely changed. Failure to recognize that would turn this franchise into the Coyotes. He's been crying he has no money way before now. If he truly has no money, he's very fortunate those 2 turned him down, or he'd really be stuck. Its not like guys making 8 figures are easy to move these days. His explanation about Hunter and Fukudome was that they would generate a bunch of additional revenue such as jersey and t-shirts sales. I don't think Fukudome could generate $50 million in merchandise sales if he had 2 million relatives.

Alex Rodriguez tested postive for steroids in 2003; Admits It
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) I still feel reasonably confident that Frank didn't use. Not 100% of course, as I can't be, but pretty sure. My fear though, is that when HOF voters look at him, if they don't know him well enough, he'll be looked at as part of the whole thing. Also, if I had to completely ballpark it, I'd guess something like 20% to 30% of major leaguers have, at some point in their professional careers, used some sort of banned substance. Gammons thinks 80% at least tried it.

Is KW actually watching the Dow Jones or being a jerk?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I bow to Kenny here because in reality, he, for a guy with our payroll size, has avoided giving out a big and bad contract, as opposed to some of the albatrosses around baseball, hell just 8.1 miles north. At the sametime he has managed to keep a talent pool pumping into Chicago that has allowed him to avoid the free agent market to save the team. We might not like the 50 cents talk, but why hate on the guy for telling it how it is? I'd rather have that than the Schuler type crap about how we went after a free agent that we offered a fraction of the money that the other teams did. (ala Ventura at 3 years 18 mil as compared to NYM at 4 years 32 mil). Give me honesty every time. Yet he offered Torii Hunter a lot and Fukudome $50 million. Doesn't sound like a guy who can't afford the electric bill.

Alex Rodriguez tested postive for steroids in 2003; Admits It
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) The reality is that probably a fraction of players were juiced on the 05 team. Heck if you take the 03 numbers of 104 positive tests, which doesn't include HGH type stuff, that is one in seven players testing positive. That averages out to 3 to 4 players per each team. Granted it sounds like some teams have a concetration of problems, but I doubt very seriously that any team has zero cheaters. It is inevitable that some of our favorites will end up being frauds to. It is going to happen, sooner or later, that a name will slip out of the Sox clubhouse. That's also with ample warning that they would be tested. I really think 50% would be a reasonable figure when determining users.

Alex Rodriguez tested postive for steroids in 2003; Admits It
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) You have the right to think that and I can definitely see a case made for your side of the debate. But at the same time, they aren't legal, and thus all of these guys that did take them are cheaters and should be looked down upon accordingly in my opinion. On a side note, baseball and football of the last few decades are starting to look like nothing more than wrestling without the fixed outcomes (and some would even argue the last part of that statement with how officiating is at times). I saw a story on ESPN how the 1963 San Diego Chargers, who won the AFL, were the first team to really use steroids. I didn't realize it went back THAT far, and it's just sad to see these sort of things. Even now, if you get busted in the NFL, you get a 4 week vacation.

Is KW actually watching the Dow Jones or being a jerk?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) Kenny is answering a question. Its not like he is going out and saying this to anyone he can corner. Reporters ask, he answers. I actually agree with KW with extensions for these guys. They have had 1 good season each. You can't get too far ahead of yourself. Generally, if they continue like they have been, a year or two of arbitration still is a decent deal. The no money talk is what has to stop.

Alex Rodriguez tested postive for steroids in 2003; Admits It
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) This is surpising to me only from that fact that if someone is taking them someone in the locker rooms starts to talk and there is some rumors. I personally did not hear any od the A-Rod ones. He must have been very discrete about it. As far as Puljols goes, there has been talk about him since he was drafted ala Mike Piazza. Again I'm not saying he is for sure but you hear the talk in the locker rooms. David Kaplan was on Comcast the other day telling a story of how he went to interview Piazza one day and Piazza had to change his shirt or something. His back was completely covered with zits. Its dissappointing to hear about ARod, I really thought he was clean, but I do feel sorry for him in the sense that these tests were supposed to be confidential. I'm sure if they were not, most players wouldn't have taken them. Its dirty pool to leak the information now. I don't see how naming names 6 years later is really going to do anyone any good. Mark McGwire was right about one thing, its time to move forward. I'm just assuming most players used during the "steroid era", and for things like HOF consideration, the players who played in that era should be compared to the peers. Its probably not fair to the clean guys, but so be it. If Frank Thomas was clean, and we have every reason to believe he was, it makes his accomplishments more spectacular. I wasn't a fan of his attitude, but for a long while, he was a good as it gets offensively.

Is KW actually watching the Dow Jones or being a jerk?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 07:25 AM) The irony is that if you look at our expenditures over the last three years and compare that with 1) attendance and 2) wins, you'd have to agree we're getting a "so-so" return on our investment. However, if you factor in the fact that our average ticket prices, parking, concessions and souvenirs are close to the top in terms MLB rankings of cheap versus expensive...well, there's not much of a sensitivity to the plight of the fans, especially with the 11% increase for 2009. It's kind of strange, but you never hear KW say "our average payroll over the last three seasons was fifth in baseball..." You do see a few pretend-brave/courageous writers like Cowley bowing to JR, but that cheap label has been hard to get rid of since the White Flag trade, and because of the Bill Veeck Era before that. You have Albert Belle, David Wells, Navarro, keeping Buehrle/Konerko/Dye....spending a ton of money on Rodman, Pippen, Jordan, Hor. Grant, Kukoc and BJ Armstrong. But it's hard for fans to forget the way Fisk was treated, Black Jack McDowell, Ventura...Lance Johnson, Durham, Ordonez (of course KW never planned to keep him, regardless of the injuries), Carlos Lee, Rowand, Crede, etc. Then there was the nasty decade-long struggle with a diminishing Frank Thomas that lowered both sides in the process and was sad to watch. Yet our attendance was middle of the pack (mostly because of the nearly season-long disappointment of 2007) with all that money we spent, and the most successful year was the one in which we spent the least (05). I wouldn't have a problem as long as KW wouldn't walk around and tell everyone almost everytime he's interviewed that the White Sox were broke. He even joked about having to play day games because they won't be able to pay their electric bill. I also wonder why he will bring up the Forbes report which states the White Sox spend the most percentage-wise on payroll vs. net income, which is fine and dandy, but could be a little misleading considering their sweetheart lease deal and other factors, but will say Forbes has no idea what they are talking about when they state the White Sox have made over $70 million in profit from 2005-2007. If the payroll is going to be $100 million, that's fine, although as a season tickethoder I do feel a bit shafted at an increase in ticket price and a decrease in the cost of the team on the field. If they have $5 million to throw around to get out of a lease,(I don't think that $5 million should effect payroll) they should have some money to throw around to fill a couple of holes on the team. The crying poor act has become old.

Is KW actually watching the Dow Jones or being a jerk?
QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 06:51 AM) The White Sox as an organization have always seemed very sensitive about the perception that they are cheap, so this doesn't surprise me. It would probably behoove KW to get off of the "I don't have any money to spend" talk if they don't like being thought of as cheap. If they think a guy making minimum is just as good as someone who would cost millions, fine. Just don't go into the "can't spend $1 when I only have $.50." He cries poor more than any executive since Bill Veeck. KW brings more attention to White Sox finances with his talk.

Reinsdorf had been considering Coyotes purchase
JR and friends make a ton of money off the Bulls. A ton, yet he won't pay a luxury tax even though he's making profit. I really wonder why its every dime that comes in supposedly goes out with the White Sox, but he won't come near that with the Bulls. Anyway, not trying to buy the NHL team has zero effect on White Sox money.

Ben Sheets probably needs surgery
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 07:49 AM) Gord Ash had better man up and pay for the surgery for Ben Sheets. After the s***fit he through in the Sirotka/Wells deal, he would be a two face not to do so. Milwaukee looked at Sheets' medical crap and thought he was fine so they offered arbitration. The Blue Jays initially signed off on Sirotka after a physical. Gord Ash needs to find better doctors.

2009 Free Agent Tracker
Ben Sheets is going to have elbow surgery. Does anyone still want KW to sign him? Funny thing is, most teams are more concerned with his shoulder than with his elbow.

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) Abreu: RISP: .296 .372 .450 (169AB) Runners on: .317 .397 .541 (290 AB) RISP 2 outs: .382 .433 .618 (55AB) Dye: RISP: .269 .304 .429 (156AB) Runners on: .273 .328 .472 (267AB) RISP 2 outs: .210 .269 .306 (62AB) Maybe their total RBI numbers are dependent, but you can clearly see what each player did last year when put in the same situations, Abreu made much more of them. And BTW, they both had about the same number of chances, so Im not sure how much the players in front of them had to do with it. I agree, although JD's numbers in those situations flucuate from year to year, but RBI guys are RBI guys. There's no reason to believe Abreu wouldn't drive in 100 or close to it.
