People forget Contreras won 17 consecutive decisions from mid 2005-mid 2006. I think Clemens won 20 in a row and that is the only streak longer. He is not far removed from that streak. He hurt his back in mid 2006 and lost some effectiveness. Last year was horrid, but who knows how much that had to do with his personal life. His forkball has been dancing almost like never before the last few outings. There's really no reason to think this is a fluke. I have no idea what his real age is, and he probably is an injury waiting to happen, but unless the Sox fall out of contention by the deadline, which at this point doesn't appear likely, they should keep him and maybe shop him next offseason. If they can get a great package, thank him for the memories, if not, he's a pretty good pitcher.

The obvious question to me is if Walker must be fired, which I find ridiculous, who is the replacement? If the White Sox lose, according to Soxtalk there are only limited options for who to blame: 1. Juan Uribe 2. Greg Walker 3. The umpires 4. Jim Thome How is it that Swisher gets a pass? The only thing he can do offensively is walk. He's not a very good defender. If the Cubs had traded for him instead of the White Sox, every other post in the Cub thread would be laughing at what would be considered an obvious ex-juicer. I have no proof, but 35 homers in 06 to 22 homers in 07 to 4 closing in on 1/3 of a season in 08 makes one wonder doesn't it? I still don't understand why he is batting 7th when his biggest offensive weapon is the walk. Unless the walk is advancing a runner, getting on for 2 weaker hitters seems like a waste when you don't run. Its also hysterical to see all the Thome bashing by many of the same people who were so impressed with Josh Fields in 2007. Thome has been bad, yet he's on pace to hit 32 homers, about the same pace Fields was last year when he was going to be a star according to some. He's on pace for 179 strikeouts, a worthless bum he's been called. Fields was on a 200 strikeout pace, but that didn't matter because a strikeout is supposedly no different from any other out. Thome's average is weaker by about 40 points, but his OPB is better about 50 points, and this is when Thome is struggling. He'll start hitting soon.

Sam Smith who is in with JR said there is no doubt the Bulls will draft Rose and trade for a post player. Perhaps Jermaine O'neil if he is healthy enough. He also mentioned the possibilty of Marion with Hinrich being the bait.

Offensively the Sox have been bad this year.The leadoff guys are making Pods look like a HOFer. It just goes to show its all about the pitching.

Its time for Wassermann to go back to his apartment in Charlotte. I was never a big fan of his, but did feel he probably earned a spot on the team with a good spring training, but totally understood and supported the reasoning for choosing Masset. You just can't have high expections for guys who fall down when delivering the ball and get it there at about 87. I thought the Sox should give him the rest of this trip to show something, but now that they will be back in Chicago, its time for him to go. Who would have thought after last year, his career ERA would be 6.15 after 3.1 innings pitched this season? He actually got a hold today.
