  1. The way Perez has handled Dye, maybe he wants to face him. I don't know if that's a good idea.
  2. I like the Sox chances if it becomes a battle of the bullpens, even if we do see Cotts.
  3. QUOTE(SoxnGiants @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) 3 runs over 6 innings isn't a bad start - and should be PLENTY against Odalis Perez and the Royals. Considering the Sox have only won 5 games this year when scoring 3 runs or less, 3 is usually not enough.
  4. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Look at the starters' ERA. (Even) Tom Kelly couldn't win with this rotation. But since it was all because of Ozzie the Sox pitched well in the postseason, shouldn't it be all his fault if they suck?
  5. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) I really thought Buehrle was back after his last start. Too bad he skipped the WBC and can't use that for an excuse. Somebody please check the lights on the KC scoreboard.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) No offense to anyone, but can we actually discuss the game and stop with the Ozzie pro/con right now. If we don't improve, there's 28 more games until we can talk about this 24/7. Taking the attention away from what is going on in KC is good, I think.
  7. When was the last time Hawk said Ozzie won't let happen what is actually happening?
  8. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) So Kelly was managing that team for what, one year? You can follow an organization closely but it does not compare to following the team every day, like I'm sure you do with the Sox. My point is that most of the problems we have with Ozzie (stuff about favorites, Mackowiak in CF, sticking with Pods) are things that are evident only from watching the Sox on a daily basis. I'm sure if you ask Twins fans, they'll have a list of peeves with Kelly as well. It's also common knowledge that 2002-present Twins players didn't like Kelly all that much and began winning only after Gardenhire took over. Kelly had a lot to do with the Twins success after he left. They didn't like the fact that he made them take infield and run drills after games they lost and lost because of stupid plays. He taught them how to play the game the right way.
  9. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) I was describing Tom Kelly, a man whose baseball managing abilities are far superior to Ozzie's. And for those who say Ozzie is a manager whose best assest is motivating his players, he's inferior to TK in that aspect too. TK gets his players to do the little things to win games because they know they will be replaced if they don't. There's no greater motivation than staying in the majors. I watched part of that special they have been having about Ozzie on Comcast. It was interesting to me that he never has disciplined his sons. His wife does that. It really makes you wonder if he has the ability to get into his friends faces when its called for.
  10. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Dye having a tough day at the dish. Last time he had a game like this at the plate, he also dropped a ball, got the next day off and then got hot again.
  11. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) Did they have the highest payroll in baseball? Because they won the World Series! What was Ozzie's batting average in the WS?
  12. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) Last year's team was predicted to be middle-of-the-pack. Nonetheless, two seasons managing, 1 World Series title isn't a bad rate of success for Guillen. They had the highest payroll in the division.
  13. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) I like the way you think. I've been on the TK bandwagon for some time now. Join us. I saw your signature, thats what made me think of him. I'm a Sweet Lou man myself. I think the Sox need a few cages rattled and he's the guy to do it.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Can Buehrle hold the Royals scoreless after we give him the lead? He's been notorious giving up runs after getting a couple this season.
  15. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) What's Kelly's winning percentage? Have Ozzie manage a few rebuilding teams and see what his percentage is. He has only managed a team that was supposed to contend.
  16. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) Jerry Manuel never won anything more than a division. Not bad guiding a team to the best record in the AL with the 26th highest payroll in baseball.
  17. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) Jerry Manuel never won anything more than a division. Then Tom Kelly should be the manager of the White Sox. He has 2 WS titles, so he must be twice the manager Ozzie is.
  18. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) Jerry Manuel never won anything. He won a division, manager of the year and had the best record in the AL in 2000. And he did it with a payroll far from the highest in the division.
  19. QUOTE(G&T @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) It seems to me that Gload could have starter somewhere for a while. But I doubt he'd ever be the first baseman for a winner. I think Konerko is better defensively although Paulie would never had made the play Gload did the other day. I have a hard time believing Gload would hit .300 if he was a regular.
  20. Well maybe the Sox will think the Detroit series on the 18th, 19th and 20th will be big enough to show up at. I wonder when they will feel the game is important. They don't seem too intense to me.
