  1. For a bunch of people who aren't supposed to give a s*** about the White Sox, we are seeing a lot of Cub fans with a need to write letters to newpapers showing how totally clueless they are. It used to bother me, but over the past year or so their BS just makes me laugh. World Champion White Sox-you would think these 4 words would shut them up.
  2. I don't know what the French government can do at this point. Afterall, I was in Paris a few years ago when the unemployed went on strike looking for better benefits. They would stand in front of the entrances of the Louvre and other museums, and tourist destinations, not letting anyone in. They got their increased benefits.
  3. I still don't understand why the giant concern with Sweeney's power numbers. Robin Ventura was 2 years older than Sweeney when he played at Birmingham and hit a whopping 3 homers in over 450 at bats. The power will come with this guy, he has a lot of talent.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) It all depends on when and who replaces Kevin Towers. I figured Alderson would have replaced him with himself by now.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) I read where the Padres took their 3 year $21 million offer to him off the table. They were hoping he would take a paycut. I'm sure if all things were equal he would want to be on the west coast, but if the money is there the White Sox could offer him a realistic chance at the World Series. Pursuing him would be worth KW's time IMO even if he did say no thank you.
  6. Sign Giles and Konerko. Giles brings a little something the White Sox could use even though they won it all. He actually is disciplined at the plate. 119 walks vs. 64 strikeouts this season. 38 doubles. His homers were down but he should get a big bump with a move to USCF. The email I got from my rep mentioned unprecendented season ticket sales going on right now. Bust the budget a little bit. If the pitching is anywhere near what it was this year, adding Giles and getting better performances out of a few others would really make it hard for even ESPN not to give this team respect.
  7. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) that may have been true for one of the seasons, but I know for a fact that I got a Bulls replica championship ring at a game for a giveaway. Ive never been a Bulls season ticketholder, and I wouldnt be surprised at all if Reinsdorf did the same thing for the Sox.....doubtful against the Cubs though. I don't see why people think this is some HUGE stretch, I dont know many teams that dont giveaway replica championship rings. They may give out some sort of replica ring, but you can bet the ranch it won't be given out at a game against the Cubs.
  8. This rumor is false. I would imagine season ticketholders will get a replica ring or a mini world series trophy or something of the sort. I received them with the Bulls championships.
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) ***OFFICIAL*** http://whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/pr...t=.jsp&c_id=cws Frank isn't going to be anywhere near 100% anytime soon and KW isn't going to wait until he is at least close to that to improve the team. If Frank can come back, and it is a huge if, I would imagine he is KW's plan D or lower.
  10. I think KW handing over the World Championship trophy to Frank at the rally was as sentimental as the White Sox are going to get with him. I think that was KW paying homage to him for his service. I doubt he is back with the Sox, if he is even able to come back at all.
  11. No way. You would just be setting him up for another injury.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) His agent is gonna be pushing hard for that no trade clause... thus the problem. They all do, but it will be interesting to see if someone gives him one. If not, his service time with the White Sox may actually help the Sox cause in re-signing him. I would love to see him back, but I think it would be silly giving him too many years. A guy like Paulie can get old quick and on the other hand he may age with the bat well. I am still very concerned with his hip, although it seems to have become a non issue the past couple seasons. I seriously doubt an NL team is going to give him the length his agent wants, it may take him 20 minutes to run to first base in 7 years.
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) How many no trade clauses have the sox offered in their history? Just doesn't happen. They wouldn't give him one. But if he wasn't traded the first 3 years of the contract, he would have an automatic one, just like the Big Hurt has had the last 4 seasons.
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) The sox will definitely not offer konerko a trade clause either will the red sox. If the red sox signed konerko with a no trade clause other players on the red sox will get full and partial no trade clauses... it is already in some contracts that it kicks in. Red sox are out of the hunt for konerko and were never players for him in my opnion anyway. If Konerko signed back with the White Sox, he would only need a no trade for the first 3 years. After that he would be a 5 and 10 man and he would have the right to refuse a trade anyway.
  15. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Well if we save the money, at least we can look at a long term deal for Contreras and Garland this offseason. Then you'll also save for the future for a new deal for Buehrle, who has next year plus an option year left. How old do you think Contreras really is? There is no way he's anywhere near the 32 that is on his baseball card. But I agree, with the others.
  16. The only way I would give Konerko anymore than 5 years, and really I think that is too long, is if those last couple years are based on performance the previous years. If he hit .220 with 12 homers, I would need the option to void the contract. That isn't going to happen. Paulie is going to have to accept a discounted contract to stay here I believe. Its still not out of the question he wouldn't despite what his father said. If he leaves the Sox will get someone decent to replace him.
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) Hands down: Paul Konerko's firstball-fastball grandslam in game two of the World Series. I was in attendance for that one and I honestly thought the place was going to go down. I've never, ever, ever been apart of such an electric sporting moment in my entire life. It was one of those things I'll never forget for the rest of my life. It was pure elation. Also, the Konerko slam trumped Podsednik's walk-off. It was not even close. I agree.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) I couldn't agree more about him accepting what he got. I'll remember Uribe's incredible defense in Game 4 a hell of a lot longer than I will remember whether or not any of them won the Gold Glove. One thing I'll give Rowand a lot of credit for this year is he picked his leadership ability up. You can tell he's one of the guys that a lot of other players look up to. None of the guys who are getting Silver Sluggers or Gold Gloves, or Cy Youngs or MVPs were in a parade last Friday. The 2 Uribe plays were incredible. Back to back almost perfectly opposite of each other. I really wonder what other SS could make both those plays. A few could make the one in the stands, but who really has the arm strength to make that final out?
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Yes, his arm was awful this year compared to how he was throwing the previous few seasons. Rowand seemed to struggle getting enough air on his throws home this season, and they ended up getting slowed down far too often by the infield grass. I just remember Rowand's arm being a lot stronger/accurate in previous seasons. Like I said, there's no comparison between his arm and that of guys like Kotsay, Ichiro, Hunter, etc. You're right about his throws. He did have a streak of a couple weeks where he was throwing great, and of course had that streak of unbelievable plays around the time they were in NY this year, but most of the year he was hunting rattlesnakes with his throws, which indicates he was really overthrowing, something he seemed to be doing with his swing as well at times. He had a great year catching the ball defensively, but its understandable how he didn't win the GG. I think he'll take what he got.
  20. It probably wouldn't be until Spring if it happens.
  21. The White Sox got the only award that matters. They all got to hoist it up over their heads in front of millions of people in person and on television last Friday afternoon. Gold gloves while nice mean nothing. Didn't Palmiero win one a few years ago when he was primarily a DH? Its a popularity contest. The White Sox are World Champions. Who cares about anything else?
  22. KW's other dilema is he has to find a spot for Brian Anderson to play. He more than likely isn't going or want to send him back to Charlotte, that would be counterproductive, and he won't want him wasting away on the bench. I really think Rowand could be the odd man out here. I really think the Sox need some LH hitting, that's why I mentioned Giles. Maybe Griffey would be revisited. If Everett and Thomas were gone, you could have room for Griffey or Giles and Konerko with the OFs rotating playing DH.
  23. Let them both go and get Brian Giles. Frank, if he plays again, and that is still not anywhere near a sure thing, can only be expected to get hurt again. Let these guys go, sign Giles and Konerko, make a few adjustments to the bullpen, and defend the title.
  24. If boosters were paying football recruits, what must the Illini baskeball team's payroll be? No wonder Dee Brown didn't go pro.
  25. 10 minutes would probably mean you would have to run. I would guess its about a 15 minute walk and I walk pretty fast.
