Giles contract is MUCH more attractive than Magglio's. Cheaper and longer. The prospects given up where nowhere near what everyone is talking about Ordonez. Look at what the Sox were able to get Colon with . He had 1 year and $8.5 million left. 1 year and $14 million is going to get you a heck of a lot less.

To think you would get a slew of prospects, and have someone take Magglio's salary is a pipedream of the greatest proportions. If you want prospects, you will have to pick up some of his salary, if not most. If you want full salary relief, you will get a 2nd or 3rd tier prospect at best for him. The White Sox could ill afford the backlash from that, so he'll probably play out his contract here.

And if he said he wasn't interested, they would have held THAT against him. He couldn't win answering that question. Its really too bad, but someone will give him a chance, and in a few years everyone will be hoping the White Sox hire a big name, and his will be at the top of the list.

I just read that Backman played for Torre, Leyland, Davey Johnson, and Piniella. He probably picked up a few things from those guys. It would really be a shame if he isn't considered.

These "experienced" candidates that a lot of fans want, were at one point 1st time managers. Joe Torre was 117 games under .500 in his managerial career, before he came to the Yankees. Now he's a genius. The Yankees fans were up in arms when he was hired. There are guys out there that haven't had a shot, or who had a shot where it didn't work out, who could be very effective managing this team. This is a huge decision. A bad hire could set this franchise back 5-10 years.

I read somewhere about 10 years back, that Frank fell out of a tree or something like that as a kid. It supposedly screwed up his shoulder, and that's why he has a funky throwing motion and no confidence as to where its going to go when he lets the ball go. It might have been a football injury, I can't quite remember.

I have a feeling Frank is going to turn down the $6 million, the White Sox will pass on the $8 million, making Frank a free agent. Tellum and JR will then go back to the drawing board, and Frank will get new contract with the White Sox. He did show that he could still play first base last season. I would think his biggest problem going to the NL would be that there are a lot more bunts, and because of his bad shoulder, he cannot throw. That could really cause a lot of problems. LA is the obvious choice, Danny Evans is there, at least for now, and they need offense.

Paxson is not a big fan of Jalen Rose. He will be left unprotected, if he hasn't gotten rid of him by that time. He wanted to trade him to Minnesota for that injured point guard, Brandon, I believe. Brandon has 1 year left on his contract, and it opens up something between $10-12 million in salary next season. I think Paxson is going to be juggling the roster up a lot between now and then, so the only ones for sure to protect right now would be Crawford, Chandler and Curry and Heindrich.

The Cubs being in the playoffs has no effect on how the White Sox will be run or what moves they make. Where have you been, Jupiter? The Sox are going to be second class until they win a World Series, and even that may not do the trick. His statement wasn't about giving Sox fans hope. If he wanted to give Sox fans hope he would announce he had signed Colon. Offering the richest contract to a pitcher in club history, and not having that offer accepted, would not give Sox fans hope. It gives just the opposite. What's Bart got to lose by waiting until he's on the open market? And oh by the way, if the Sox offered Bart the same salary he's making this year , for 3 years, it would be the richest contract for a pitcher in the history of the franchise.

I think its a bush league move of KW to start negotiating in public. I also believe he probably feels he will not sign Bartolo. By announcing he has offered BC the richest contract ever offered to a White Sox pitcher, what does he accomplish? Its as if he is pressuring Bart to sign, and if Bart doesn't sign, Bart is the bad guy. If you are Bartolo, why sign now? Why don't you wait and see what someone might offer you, it may be a better situation than the one you are now in. If Bart signed with NY or Boston or someplace else, KW then could have told the public about his offer, if I'm Bartolo, I'd be a little miffed at KW right now.
