2018-9 MLB off season free agency thread
Which is nice, but they are paying him for 2019. Chances are there is going to be a drop off.

3/3 vs Cubs, 2pm
Considering the date, I wouldn’t take much out of these games, good or bad. They are for for entertainment purposes only, Unfortunately, today was about as entertaining as the past few seasons.

To anyone "qutting being a Sox fan"
Which is usually how it works out.The problem is, the Sox think they are a destination players would take discounts to play for. In the real world, considering opportunity and money are the same, not even less pay, how many players would list the Sox in their top 15 destinations? I would think top 5 would be almost zero.

Last Two Offseasons
To be fair, they were out of ammo to trade for a good prospect. Maybe Rodon turns into that. And most didn’t want them to spend at all last year. Save the money for Harpchado. People trusted them and they were burned.

To anyone "qutting being a Sox fan"
Everyone’s level of fandom is different, and everyone has a breaking point. It might take a move and a name change for some. It might take a personal bad experience for others, or it might be constant failure. People losing interest is not new. It has been happening for over a decade. If things continue down this path, more will jump off. I will say, considering what Machado and Harper were expected to get, and what they received, and how the Sox were planning this for 2 years and came up $50 million short on Machado, after JR apparently “stepped up”, and didn’t even bid on Harper, their commitment to winning is being questioned for the first time by me. I am still a fan for sure. Probably less engaged than I have been since I became a fan at 4 years old, But supporting this group running the team, now makes me pause. A good team will probably change all that. But maybe not. Maybe not paying attention to every pitch every season and not really too upset if they lose 5 in a row is actually a really good thing. If they ever become successful again, many will return. But it isn’t crazy to me to think for that to happen, the house needs to be cleaned. Their 2 yearold plan to add a premium free agent on a huge discount proved that to me.

KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
So the White Sox didn’t even bid on Harper according to KW. Asking price way out of their range.
-
Place the blame where you feel it belongs
JR gets blame because he determines payroll. RH and KW get blame because they actually believed at least one of these guys would sign for a discount. That was their plan for 2 years. It is unbelievable how unrealistic they are. And instead are paying mediocre players $13 million for absolutely no reason. That alone may make JR have KW and RH work the dunk tank at the Sox company picnic.

KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
Here's the other thing to look forward to, if these prospects ever turn into studs who could command huge deals, you better hope the Sox manipulate their service clocks, because they are out of here the second they become free agents unless something changes upstairs.

KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
It's a shame the White Sox put their fans in a position to call them cheap. Sell the team if you can't spend the money to compete. KW's "love connection" with Bryce Harper was worth a 0% discount.

KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
There is no reliable source that said they actually even tried to sign Harper. They met him, but that seems about it. Once Boras gave a price, it seems they were done.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
Did they even bid on Harper?i am guessing not.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
The White Sox plan to sign a premium free agent, was a blueprint of their plans when trying to build a contender in recent years. If everything went right, all the big spenders sit out, everyone lowballs, they get their guy. If what the smart money says what should happen, happens, like someone paying market rate, they are looking in from the outside.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
I also think after their very public pursuit of Machado, Harper looks like a secomd choice. The only way you win that is by offering the most money. Of course most money won both of these. So that had about as much of a chance as Charles the Cat does of being correct.

The Sox new TV deal must be brutal.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
I wonder why the Sox haven't leaked their final offer to Harper.

Why you should not want Reinsdorf to sell the SOX
The only 3 people in the world who thought these guys would sign at a discount to play for a perennial loser who is ignored in their home city were JR, KW,and RH.
-
Why you should not want Reinsdorf to sell the SOX
10 years and counting no playoffs. 6 losing seasons in a row and counting. There is no reason you should not was JR to sell the team if for the lone reason KW and RH and RR and the jobs for life coaching staff would immediately be dismissed. The offers to Machafo, and Harper if Harper even got one, were of the half assed variety in reality.Something we are more than used to by now.

2019 fan engagement poll
I think they will be more interesting this year, and I have a 20 game plan. , which I will use.But overall I will probably watch less. I will be more focused on individuals. Watch Eloy hit. Watch Moncada, Abreu. See what a couple of pitchers are doing, and then change the channel.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
If all the bad moves were JRs and KWs faults and RH had only the correct answers, RH would have moved along by now. He had some opportunities.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
I think deep down, all of us knew how this was going to go. We bought it. I have a small partial season ticket plan. I was going to blow it off in 2019. In fact, I missed the deadline for the first payment and assumed I was out. Then right around the end of the Winter Meetings I received an email stating I still have a shot. So I figured hey, they have a shot. But deep down I knew. It will not happen again. They got a cheap 2 seat plan out of their BS. I would imagine I wasn't the only sucker. At least they should be a little better than last year, and there is Eloy. That poor guy is going to have the weight of the White Sox on his shoulders.

For sure. And any idiot could have figured that out weeks ago.
