It's 8 years away. JR will be over 90. Hahn and KW will be retirement age. They wouldn't be making the decisions. If JR sells, the first thing new ownership does is clean house.
-
And the other thing is, whether you want to trust KW, RH and JR that they wouldn't manipulate it, none will probably be here at that time.
-
The problem is the $300 million KW comment, and Nightengale, who is plugged into the White Sox, says the Phillies are bidding against themselves.
-
It makes no sense. They are so concerned with years 9 and 10. Years 6,7,8 may be declining as well. He could do you a favor opting out. Albert Belle did them the solid.
-
They were addressing roster structure and said they couldn't build a winning roster giving one player $300 million.
-
That is the thing I don't understand. If, like many like to say, they have been planning this since trading Sale, WTF kind of plan was this? The big boys were sitting out and they still failed. And the price was given to them months in advance.
-
10/$300 million was what eveyone was thinking for Machado since last April. Even more for Harper. So, if that is too much to give one player in order to create a total winning team, like KW said, the White Sox haven't changed colors. They are just out looking for bargains. Like the woman in the article above mentioned, rebuilding requires something from the other side, like spending on a superstar. Nailing that conversion. The Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs were all not spending. What do you think it would go to if they were? This was their shot, and the failed with Machado. Not to go balls out for Harper would show just how out of touch with reality they are. Mediocre, run down free agents from the bargain bin will be what they can convert on. This regime is tired and needs to change.
-
I think you are a little off. That record would have lasted for a couple of days at the most. And Stanton still got more than $300 million, although not as a free agent.
-
Of course not. The rebuild is still on track. They are still going to spend all that money, just on lesser players.... They have been scaring off the fanbase for years. Now they are scaring off their most loyal customers. It's time for Jerry to sell. He doesn't have the heart to fire RH and KW. They all need to go. JR had a great run. Almost 40 years, but it happens to everyone. He just doesn't have it as a pro sports owner anymore.

How long have these clowns been around? When is the last time the White Sox went into a season with a team universally thought of as a contender?
-
If they thought their offer was more lucrative, it boggles my mind why they wouldn't have given the agent what he wanted, and what they considered a worse deal. Something isn't adding up in the White Sox spin. They got out negotiated. Nothing more, nothing less. They have a chance to right a wrong with Harper, but I suppose because he will want more than $300 million, the White Sox can't pay a guy that and build a winning team. I don't know why they don't try. They have tried to build a winning team on the cheap, and that hasn't worked out. Maybe they just cannot build a winning team.
-
Instead of Hahn saying they aren’t going to convert on everyone, I think White Sox fans understand this about as well as any fan base, maybe he could actually say, we are going to convert on a premium free agent. With Renton and Arenado, if the Sox were only going 8 years with Machado will they even go 5 with them?
-
It makes total sense they go after him. Might even get 2nd place again.
-
Which is strange because they gave one to Belle, and benefitted greatly 22 years ago.
-
If you take KW at his word, they cannot guarantee one player $300 million because they will not have enough money to build a total team. So probably no chance.
-
Who is available in 2020? Looking ahead to the future

Advice for the next wave of fake insiders, and the fakes who will continue like they weren’t totally exposed, when it comes to top free agents, coming in second is a White Sox trademark. Just say their offer is great, but............ -
If the Sox felt their offer was superior, why didn’t they downgrade it like Lozano wanted and signed the player?
-
That is the problem. The longer the Sox aren't entertaining the better the chance people who used to attend games find something else to do with their time, and stick with that even when the team gets better. Cleveland is an example. They sold out for years. Then were horrible. Now win the division every year and can't get a full house until playoff time.
-
I forgot.
-
Harper is the chance to right a wrong. You got out negotiated, now get back up and get in there.
-
For Harper, offer him 10/ $330 million guaranteed. No opt outs. Or give him a 5 year opt out. Even salary. He beats Machado. He beats Stanton. JR saves face. If Harper performs and Machado perform, they save money in the long run if the $350 million is accurate. Boras keeps his clients in shape. Harper plays hard, and is really the face of baseball. Win. Win.
-
They didn't even need Manny. I wonder why they even wasted their time.
-
If they are so worried about money, selling is the best way to get all the money you want.
-
I am sorry, I, in the past have defended JR, but this is ridiculous. He made a great deal buying the Sox. An even better deal buying the Bulls. Combined, the teams are worth about $5 billion. He and his partners, many of whom are the same for both teams, have made tons of money. And except for Michael Jordan, and a for a short while DRose, hasn't had sustained winning for either franchise. With all they have made, you would think paying Machado or Harper would be a small payback to the people of Chicago who have given so much for, except for MJ, which these guys had nothing to do with acquiring, so little. It's time for the ownership group to move on. Let there be another voice. JR's isn't woking. His loyal lieutenants' aren't working. They need to get with the times.
-
But it's over 10 years. And supposedly it's evenly divided. Pretty good chance 7 years from now, KW, JR, and RH no longer have offices at Guaranteed Rate Field.
