I was watching MLBN and Eric Byrnes was talking about free agency. Obviously for the most part, he was a hack as a player, and kind of out there anyway, but he went through it and gave some perspective of what players think. With Harper, training in AZ is a big bonus since he lives in LV. Playing for LA or SF would be ideal. Playing for the Phillies and spending 6 weeks of spring training in FL is not ideal. All things being relatively the same, the Sox would have an advantage over Philadelphia with him. He did say Trout would be the opposite. Philadelphia could be sitting pretty for him.

That's what I said when Machado signed. Give him the same contract he received only 10% higher. Give him the 5 year opt out. If he opts out in 5 years, your team is supposed to be stacked then anyway, re-allocate the money. If they were serious about signing them, this is a discount. Machado was right at projection.
-
It turns out Scott Boras and JR hammering out the biggest contract in mlb history was just as absurd as we always thought.
-
Jay was here for one reason. He got $4 million because that is what would get him signed right away. Apparently the Sox thought his $4 million would be more than paid for by the friends and family discount they thought was coming their way.

I think when the White Sox met Lozano on Monday, they understood they were giving their final offer.
-
If he was willing to go higher, I have no idea what he was waiting for. It seemed pretty obvious it was coming to a conclusion. Even Hahn admitted he went to bed Monday night thinking the Sox chances were below 50/50.
-
I don’t think that was a big deal. It had been in the works since the end of last season. Had they signed him. He would have gone back to second.
-
Shack quoted KW earlier, and in that same sequence where he used the sunglasses and shock, he did say they couldn’t build a winning roster and guarantee him $300 million. So second place and comfortable.
-
And whatever they say, it doesn’t matter. They lost. You either sign him or you don’t. It was interesting to me how badly the Sox wanted their final offer out there. Rosenthal had it, and Hahn when he was on with Lawrence Holmes, who would normally not comment on something that that, said it was accurate. I quest that made every who thinks they tried and thought it was a accomplishment to come in second happy.
-
The problem is he shouldn’t be shocked if that wasn’t just for show. They were $50 million short, and same executive said they cannot guarantee him$300 million and build a winning roster.
-
Nice.. too bad your hobby as a fake insider was short lived.
-
Yeah shack is all over the place. He posted to another poster he would rip the front office if they missed on both. Now people doing exactly that need to find a new team to cheer for,
-
Position wise Arenado and Rendon seem to be the prizes. If they make it that far. If they need a 3B next year it means Moncada either couldn’t handle it, or they would move him again.
-
I cheer fo4 the White Sox. But I can call a spade a spade. Get some real sources then pop off.
-
No, it’s baseball. But your pompous attitude toward anyone who has a problem with this front office is ridiculous.
-
Not only that, the competition to sign them will probably never be as thin as it is now.
-
From the guy who wrote the article they must sign two of them. LMAO. And we have the same team working this that had a 94 win team and the top ranked farm system and couldn’t build a consistent winner with that. They did win a WS when everything went right, but no consistent winning, no multiple championships...and they started a lot further along than they are now.
-
They won’t learn. They went through this before. They wanted ARod. To be fair, ultimately they had zero chance, but they wanted to speak with him without Boras obviously to try to sell him on taking millions less. Meeting denied. They met with Tanaka thinking they had a shot paying tens of millions less. If it took to 2019 for them to figure out offering $50 million less in guaranteed money isn’t seen as the better offer, they are never going to figure out what everyone knows. Offer the most money and you have a great shot, Manny likes Petco. He liked his friends loving SD. If the White Sox offered more money he would have told everyone at a press conference how much he loves Chicago and how he knew when he first met Sox brass it was the perfect fit. IFree agency is a pretty simple exercise.
-
I think if the money was around the same, he would pick the White Sox. He lives in Vegas, Spring Training in AZ would be a lot more desirable than in FL. Sadly, we will never know.
-
I would think you are correct eventually. Just not Bryce.

It's been their half assed approach since the strike in 1994. Everything has to go right to win. Players have to sacrifice pay for the honor of being a White Sox. When the 6 divisions were made, it seemed a slam dunk with where the game was going financially the Sox would dominate the Central. They are the only team who has not.

As a fan there really isn’t anything you can do. As it is, the White Sox fan base has sent a message loud and clear. Declining attendance every season since 2007 except one year when it was up slightly when they slashed ticket prices. Lowest TV ratings in the league. Radio station gets rid of them in bankruptcy because hardly anyone listens. All these things, plus 6 losing years in a row. No playoffs in over a decade. These clowns still think the White Sox are a destination. How the fuck are they going to get a player to take $50 million less in guaranteed money to come to their park when they cannot even get a fan to come to a game? KW took over in 2001. The Sox had one of the youngest teams in baseball. Won the division. Farm system ranked first...ESPN even knew they existed. Peter Gammons said not onky would they own Chicago, they would own MLB. One season they did. Other than hat mostly mediocrity. The one constant has been the decision makers. Anyone who thought they would actually pay Harper after they didn’t pay Machado wasn’t paying attention. Anyone who thinks these guys can oversee a team that wins consistently for years, didn’t pay attention. The team needs to change. Hahn has admitted that. But what he hasn’t admitted is th biggest change needed, is not trading with the Cubs, or going over your international money pool. It is getting new people to make decisions. These dopes have had more than thei share of chances.Sell the team JR. Spare yourself the embarrassment 4 years from now when the Sox sneaks to the second wild card spot and you have to tell everyone they were wrong the Sox needed to sign a superstar in his prime. The new owner will know what to do with your partners in crime.

CWS wasn't trying to act all insider. He is a fan who had a ton of hope. Then the poor guy got nailed by reality. The White Sox are delusional.
-
Heyman did tweet Harpers price is too high for the White Sox. Remember when "insiders" were trying to sell the Sox signing both whales? That was awesome.
-
This is for Charlotte. If somehow Preston Tucker gets significant playing time with the White Sox even more shit went way wrong.
