I agree. The team will definitely be more interesting this year. Where they will have a problem is going forward. Whether anyone thinks it is warranted or not, there is going to be a lot higher mistrust with the front office. Unless they have some sort of surprising season, a lot of people that jumped on the rebuild bandwagon have jumped or will jump off. They will think this management team doesn’t have what it takes to bring it to the next level. I feel sorry for Eloy. If for some reason he doesn’t look like a HOFer from the get go, the next freak out will occur. Right now, he is the savior. That is going to be hard to live up to.

Didn’t Nightengale have an article a couple years ago after the Q trade with JR discussing the rebuild? JR mentioned the Cubs and Houston and said those situations were different because the guys rebuilding were new, and he admitted the guys rebuilding the Sox were the ones who messed them up in the first place. He complemented the fan base for buying in, and for forgiving the regime, and said they would be re-paid in spades. Coming in second and not even trying on two of the biggest free agents in history with all the usual players on the sidelines is quite the thanks.

I don’t understand the Sox not going balls out for Harper. If they are now saving their money for next year, there will be issues.First, some of the historic big spenders will be back in, Secomd, some of the attractive names will not be so attractive a year from now or available. If you areArenado or Rendon, you are playing in a place you like with a team that wants to keep you, and who is trying to win. Harpers and Machado’s performances could make a big difference in your market. If they flourish and their new team flourishes, the cost for these two probably goes up assuming they have typical seasons. If Harper and Machado or their teams struggle, they may think, hey I will sign the extension while it is available. I will make a lot of money, and be in a place I really like. Another issue, is if the Sox don’t want to guarantee Harpchqdos age 35 and 36 seasons, how are they going to be able to get around that with a player a couple years older. Finally, if they did go after a 3B, what does that say about Moncada? He would then move to perhaps his 3rd position in 3 seasons. Hardly the easiest path to success in the big leagues.

I don't mind this signing. If he sucks, they can cut him and not pay him. If he has something left in the tank, they can flip him for someone younger. But here is a quote by Hahn at the end of last season. Who has been acquired for the long term since then? The veteran exec emphasized that he’d like to avoid “short-term fixes that will complicate things in the long run.” Rather, he said, the focus will be on setting the organization up “for an extended run.”

Hahn doesn't think they have to overpay. In fact, he thinks quite the opposite. He stated the White Sox have an excellent reputation around the league. Players will take less to come here. How's that worked out for them?

No. He can say he heard great things about SD, and he enjoyed it when he visited as a player, if he has ever visited. He doesn't have to make it sound like Jay and Alonso pumping up SD is the reason he went there. The White Sox fan base is ticked off as it is and may not be prepared to give Alonso and Jay a fair shot. Thinking either correctly or incorrectly they had a lot to do with him blowing off the White Sox isn't going to help.

Whoever deserves the innings will get them. There will be plenty to pass along. Guys will suck. Guys will get hurt.

It's not what White Sox fans think about him, it's what they think about his friends who are still on the team. He makes it look like they steered him to SD.

Machado is really an ass for saying that. I have no problem with his friends discussing with him their experiences, and if they loved it in SD, being honest. But, he has to know the situation. That is just going to make them look horrible to White Sox fans.

I don't know. I wonder if at least part of JR is happy he didn't spend the money. Remember,this was a guy who was anxious to break up the Bulls dynasty to do it again, because he and Krause didn't get enough credit for it,

Yes. This is pure flip. Santana is going to the Sox because that's his best shot at getting innings. He knows he will wind up with some sort of contender if he pitches well enough.

I think you need to remener who weare talking about. They have always thought players will play for them for less. It wouldn’t surprise me they actually think Harper would play for them for $250 million.

There isn’t a player or agent alive that would think the Sox offer was better. The Sox do. BTW, no they wouldn’t have matched the offer. Read what Kenny said. They can’t win paying him that amount.

Agreed . Only $50 million short for Manny. What more could a fan base demand?

Maybe the Sox can re enter the bidding so they can finish a comfortable 2nd place again.

History tells us to stay tuned. Something great is about to happen. When the Sox were rebuffed by ARod, they didn't let that stop them. They went out and got Royce Clayron. Something similar may happen here. Don't destroy those season tickets yet.
