The other thing is, once you do it, it becomes an expectation, and people will be dissappointed if Chris Sale's return isn't announced at Soxfest 2020. .
-
They have announced a lot more things not at Soxfes than at Soxfest. The fact is, especially how Soxfest is now, which Friday is very exclusive, announcing something on a Friday night news dump hour to a small fraction of your fanbase will make those people that bought hotels rooms happy, make every Sox fan happy, but they would have been just as happy if they announced it on Tuesday and said Manny might even show up on Friday, and they almost certainly would have received at least as much bang for their buck.

It wasn't well received, and I doubt they expected it to be. But they tied it to renovations. That though , is nothing like a player signing. You didn't have Rosenthal and Heyman and Gammons calling around trying to find out if the Sox were going to change the name of their park, so that could easily be announced whenever.

How often does a team get 6 years of relieving out of one guy? Bummer is easily replaceable. He will have his moments. He will also have his gas can moments. Fulmer has been horrible. If the Dodger can teach him to throw pitches not right down the heart of the plate that the opposition will actually swing at, good for them. Rivera is pretty old to be an A Ball prospect. You would have to squint pretty hard, and ignore a lot of things to think the Dodgers would get the best of this deal. Joc is no superstar, but he's at an age where he should be getting to be his best. But Fulmer putting it together seems a longshot. An average reliever like Bummer pitching for the Dodgers for 6 seasons, seems a longshot, Rivera being half as good as he looked playing against guys much younger than him, vs. more age appropriate assignments, seems a bit much. Joc Pederson putting up a 2-3 WAR seems way more reasonable than any of the other three coming close to fruition. I think if this trade happens, the Sox are going to have to give up more.
-
Rivera is a 24 year old in A Ball. The other two are replacement level at best. If Rick Hahn had to replace what Bummer and Fulmer provide, he could do it quickly and cheaply. Pederson is a bargain at $5 million. To say the almost have to get rid of him isn't really accurate. To say they are bent over a barrel really isn't accurate. A lot of teams can use a guy who plays multiple OF positions, makes $5 million a year, hits left handed with power, provides 2-3 WAR, and is entering his prime age.

They don't technically announce it, but it does get leaked.
-
Most trades, physicals don't happen. They exchange medical records. With Manny, there will be one due to the size of the commitment obviously. Whether he's already gone through it or not, who knows. I'm sure he could probably have it done in Miami.
-
In the back of my mind I'm thinking Rosenthal said nothing is close with Pederson. The price seems to be light, why would Machado sign now, and the Soxfest surprise is the signing of Shawn Kelly or someone of that ilk. But many people seem to be suggesting the bigger moves are happening. I hope they do, but I'll believe it when it happens.
-
It's happened, but it's very rare for someone to back out of a deal pending a physical. Lozano would have a hard time staying an agent if he pulled a stunt like that.
-
Dodgers Stadium at night the ball doesn't carry very well. Hopefully, several of those flyouts find their way to the first or second row at GRF.
-
Pederson should be hitting his prime years. If the cost to acquire him is accurate, it's hard to argue with the trade. But it's still hard for me to believe. If he busts out, they can get a lot more for him than they gave up.
-
Maybe, but he can work on his spin and velocity, or whatever. If he can't throw strikes when he needs to, none of it matters.
-
It's hard to believe they can't get more for a 2-3 WAR player playing for $5 million. It boggles my mind. Bummer is decent, but c'mon. Fulmer? 80% of this board wanted him DFA'd last year, and some thought he was going to be a 40 man roster causality this winter. Laz is pretty good, but his huge numbers drop off a lot when he plays in more age appropriate leagues. He's already 24. Not much time to become a legit prospect.

Ricky and Our Chuck were on Kaplan’s show on NBCSC last night, and he was just answering questions. He wasn’t really available to the press back during the visit. It could mean anything. I am pretty sure if Manny signed with the Yankees 3 weeks ago and Renteria was asked the same questions, he would have had the same answers. But it also could be Manny was taking a White Sox physical at the time he was asked the questions.

I am staring to wonder besides the Phillies, who is legitimately in on these guys. Maybe the Nationals. But maybe. This may be the one time the Sox hope that the market comes back to them might actually work, especially if these guys really don’t like Philly. If Machado’s agent was sitting on an 8 year $250 million offer or better, why would he become so pissed off at Olney and Nightengale? Makes me think the money is a lot closer to what Levine is telling us then we may believe. And Harper? What if it was the White Sox leaking interest in Joc Pederson to get Boras to get off the pot before he lost yet another suitor, and maybe had zero leverage sending one of his all time highest profiled clients to a place he didn’t want to go? I guess it’s like having a $100 million house. Probably great to live in, but if you need to sell it, getting full value is going to be tough. The market is too limited. See Jordan residence highland park,IL. On top of it, these guys do eventually have some kind of deadline.

Maybe Hawk decided to un retire.
-
I guess Rosenthal did say a Joc trade isn’t close, and the chat on MLbTR made it seem the Sox and LA weren’t a match anyway.
-
The Sox won a division with an OF of Quentin, Griffey Jr., and Dye. Not exactly speedsters.and befor they pick up Giriffey, Swisher was playing CF.
-
I wish. I just think the old Soxfest surprise doesn't make much of a difference. If they have something to announce. I think they should announce it. Not wait until Soxfest. Besides if there is something to announce sitting on it makes the chance for a leak only go higher. There are a lot of Sox fans that won't be at Soxfest especially Friday night.
-
If they announced it today, would you still by a 10 game package either on line or when you went to Soxfest?
-
Actually they have an area for season tickets. I don't know if you actually can purchase or not. But individual games aren't on sale yet. I don't see where saving it for Soxfest is an advantage. Everyone there would still be high over it if it was announced yesterday, and their ticket office would have some action.
-
Back in the day I had Bulls season tickets and I wasn't renewing after Jordan, Pippen, Rodman and Phil left. They had someone call me who was urging me to return. The Bulls had traded for Chuck Person. He was trying to sell me on this. They did trade for him and immediately waived him.

Yolmer Sanchez and Tyler Saladino seemed to know what they were doing with the glove. Tim Anderson seems to have figured some things out. Tyler Flowers improved greatly. Sometimes getting better is on the players. As much as we need to find fault with everyone but the guy who sucks sucking, sometimes that line of thought is just wrong.

Also keep in mind Narvaez was in Tampa's system. So it would be a dig at them, and they actually have developed players. Narvaez's problems are because of Narvaez, not coaching.
