You don't really know, but he had a couple of #1's that didn't quite work out. Of course he got a #2 for one of them.
-
Yes, but if you have a 3 a 4, an 8, a 10, and an 11, your farm should be pretty good. Remember, Hostetler did say he would have picked Collins 1-1. If it takes several top 3 picks for your guys to build a decent farm system, you need new guys.

Melania's parents get their citizenship using the "chain migration" Trump hates so much. Go figure. Of course they are of his preferred color.

With as little as they wear anything but the black uniforms and 83's, it's like they have new ones when the break out the road grays and home pinstriipes.

There is an interesting article on ESPN.com about a prospect for prospect trade, and how well it worked out for the Rays trading Delmon Young. Still paying dividends. For the Twins, not so much. But it did state one reason they traded him was the amount of young OF in the Tampa system.

There is a pretty good case to be made Rick Hahn has committed fire able offenses. There is a pretty good case that could be made that KW and RH shouldn't be the architects of this rebuild. But I don't see where current performance should get them fired. That's fair. But I don't think they deserve a real long rope. Next year isn't looking too promising. Obviously, it doesn't mean it will be awful. 1977 was supposed to suck, 1990 was supposed to suck. 2000 was supposed to suck. I think even 2005 was supposed to suck. But as far as rebuilds go, 1990 and 2000 are the years we should be encouraged something many of us, me among them, don't see happening, may happen. But if it doesn't, fine. It's a rebuild. But there has to be some things to hang the hat on. Legit things. Not BS like they did on the pregame show yesterday trying to spin Giolito's year as average. It's been terrible. His ERA is over 6.00. And 2020, they should be a better than average team. If either of those don't happen, I think it's very fair to clean house.
-
Well, if you are giving Hahn all this credit for Sale, Eaton and Q, you have to hold his rebuild accountable a little quicker than normal since he got the Moncada, Kopech, Basabe, Dunning, Giolito, Lopez, Eloy, and Cease headstart. i am not saying you have to determine it now, but certainly by 2020 things better be turning around in a pretty big way.

Jon Corzine hired Jon Corzine. It was a throwaway line. I am pretty sure Corzine was so bad, he is banned from running an FCM. Rick Hahn is dangerous because the guy no doubt can nail an interview. It might be pretty easy to overlook how bad his teams have been.
-
I get that, but at what point will that be determined? I know it's too soon now. I just find it incredible anyone actually thinks he earned the chance to buy himself some years doing this. it's all based on any previous move that was bad was KW and that was good was RH. Less than 5 months after he trades Tatis for Shields, he gets to lead a full rebuild. I wonder if there are any brokerage firms looking to hire Jon Corzine to run their company. The guy is bright, and he knows how to talk a good game, but at some point results should matter. We will see about the talent. Then we will see if his development team has a clue. It would be nice even if the have to play bad players, they at least have a clue as to what base to throw to, when to take an extra base, when to hit the other way....It's the same clueless baseball that has been going on for years. It's kind of hard to blame the major league staff. You would think guys actually would know how to play once they arrive whether from the minors or from other teams.

At what point is Rick Hahn accountable?
-
All GMs make good moves and bad moves. The bottom line is wins. Rick is last in the league since he took over an operation his fingerprints were all over anyways. Considering historically, the White Sox have had much better health than their rivals, there is no excuse. The clock should be ticking. Yes, this year was bound to suck. Next year wasn't bound to suck, but it's looking like that may change. There needs to be improvement, not only with the talent level, but with how they play the game. The Ricky's boys don't quit is nice, but as Ozzie says, they are a young team that loses a lot. Those teams usually hustle. Getting a 23 year old trying to establish himself in the major leagues to hustle isn't that tall of a task.

8/8 GT - NYY @ Sox - Severino vs Giolito
Dick Allen replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
I read where Abreus old Cuban hitting coach talked to him and told him what he was doing wrong. It snapped his slump. -
He probably had just as much of a baseball background as any of us did when the White Sox hired him. All of us think we have all the answers. Obviously his moves when they were trying to win, didn’t produce wins. We will see how this change of direction goes, but at some point, you have to figure good results should be a qualification for him to remain employed in his current position.

At the very least if you hated the current situation, and most of us do, but also see no hope the next couple of years, why would you be wasting your time on a beautiful night watching this crap? -
8/8 GT - NYY @ Sox - Severino vs Giolito
Dick Allen replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
If the Sox don’t win tonight, and it is not looking very good, they are going to have to pretty much run the table the rest of the season to make the playoffs, and even that is probably not good enough. -
It was. He clipped it on either the second baseman or shortstop.
-
When he hurt his thumb stealing in spring training, he slid feet first.

If they are going to call them up this season it should be before they play another minor league game. To call them up in September is trading one month of meaningless games for an extra season of control, Maybe, possibly, perhaps, no one will give a crap about the extra year of control 6years from now, but a month of meaningless games is a cheap price to pay for insurance in case they might.
-
The other silly thing is being scared not calling them up will piss them off. They know just about every team in the White Sox position would hold them back. The exceptions would be teams so desperate for some sort of box office bump. And those teams would not be in play when they become free agents. Too financially challenged.

Official NHL COVID season thread

RIP Stan Mikita -
I never said that. It isn't black and white. I am just showing you that "what is best for the player" doesn't necessarily mean trotting him out there in meaningless September games. Either call them out now, which I don't agree with, or wait until two weeks into next season. But since the Sox made Sale a reliever, I am sure you are on board if Kopech is named the 2019 closer. All plans must remain the same.
-
It can be both. How have the big Septembers guys like Morel, and Fields, and Owens, and Giolito, and Trayce Thompson, and Moncada put up help them later? It's a nice theory, there just doesn't seem to be much evidence sitting out September kills careers. If it does, the Sox should probably trade Luis Robert right now for whatever they can get. With all he has missed, he evidently will have no chance.
-
There is no good reason unless he is near his innings limit which he will be if he is down there much longer, and it's September. A few meaningless starts for a bad team makes no sense givng away a year of contro.l.
-
Again, you are comparing apples to oranges. Totally different issues, totally different situations. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO TREAT EVERY PLAYER EXACTLY THE SAME? Keep in mind the players you mentioned, Moncada now Giolito and Lopez DID NOT MAKE THEIR MAJOR LEAGUE DEBUTS WITH THE WHITE SOX. i guess you should be crying why did the White Sox have them in the minor leagues at all. To call up a top prospect in September on a team with no playoff shot, considering the current rules, is about as dumb of a move a GM can make. If Hahn does it, even though you will agree with it, you can go move being fired 4 times up to 5.
-
They really haven't had this type of situation since the rules changed. But if RH should have been fired 4 times, you should be fired for bringing Kopech up in September for a start or 2 then putting him in the bullpen, thus blowing an entire year of control .
