That last throw by Donaldson was a bit iffy.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 07:36 PM) We knew they would be bad.. just got our hopes up a bit with frost two games.. have to dial it back now This year the highs are going to be really high, and the lows are going to be the cold water thrown on you to bring you back to reality.

There is no fixing Miguel Gonzalez. This time next year, he is in a beer league.

I thought shoulder separating at first with Engel

I love make up homers

Boston has to blow his whistle when Donaldson bats. The Sox also have to think about laying a couple down the 3rd base line.
-
Hopefully if the Sox have a regular prospect failure rate, if Rutherford is one , hopefully Micah Johnson, Frankie Montas, Trayce Thompson, count as well, the Sox could be in pretty good shape. Obviously it would be nice if Rutherford somehow becomes the player many had thought he could become, but I think it is more important their better prospects turn out. Then they really would be cooking with gas.

Nailed it.

Thoughts and prayers should take care of it.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 11:32 AM) He said it was something to do with posting from an ipad. I noticed it on a few other posters as well, i think DA the other day. Yes. That happened a couple times on my IPad when trying to use an apostrophe. Then I ran an update and it seemed to clear it up.

Apparently Boston knew Donaldson hated the whistle, so he blew it as Donaldson was coming to the plate. Donaldson is an ass, but his response is justified.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 09:45 PM) So he.. sucks? I think similar takes, although Sweeney seems to be a bit more polished. Sweeney got strong. He went from skinny guy to pretty jacked but it didn't mean much home run wise. He had a decent career. I think Rutherford is a notch below him, but similar profile.

At least we may see the regular road uni tomorrow.

Farquhar must be good with the youngsters. If he does help them, he is worth keeping around, but garbage time should be more his slot.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:32 PM) Fun fact: the warning track in Toronto is painted turf. It’s not actual dirt You should see most of the northern college fields now. The only dirt is the pitchers mound.

I have never understood the Sox infatuation with Farquhar

QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:03 PM) Lopez & Giolito...what a f***ing steal from the Nats I wouldn’t say steal yet. Eaton is pretty good and has a .337 avg. with a .979 OPS as a Nat.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 08:00 PM) That he's an idiot Of course he is. Gibbons was caught on camera during the playoffs calling him a f***ing asshole. But he can hit.

The one and only Geddy Lee sitting behind home plate tonight.

Advertising Boycotts When Celebs Say Stupid Things
Dick Allen replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) True. She has the right to say whatever she wants, but insulting that kid was awful. That kid is to be praised not scorned IMO. Shame on her. I guess I don't know why these adults think slamming a high school kid who survives a massacre that killed 17, perhaps including some of his or her friends, is going to be good for them in the long run. Some nuts will jump on the bandwagon, but the vast majority will be appalled. This woman apparently forgot about advertisers, and hopefully it ends her media career. I have no idea what she is thinking, what the musician was thinking, what Frank Stallone was thinking. How the hell are they going to benefit? The people loving what they tweet generally aren't their target audience or the target audience of any advertisers. -
DACA is dead because the Democrats don't care according to Trump. When is he going to pull the plug on the wall? The Dems don't seen to care for that? This guy is so full of it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 01:24 PM) After sitting with the article for a bit, I am half-on, half-off with premise. I have always grouped the sox rebuilding along with the Phillies and Brewers, and I would consider the tigers similarly. I think you could make argument the Marlins are, but theirs was so much more financially driven. The phillies and tigers however, were much more terrible when their sell-offs began. But, they came at the end of a long era of trying to compete every year (basically 10 years). The Reds and Twins to me were similar to Cubs/Astros. Less extreme, but basically a longterm rebuild after an extended suckage. I'm not sure I see how the White Sox specifically stand out among the Phillies/Brewers/Tigers except they had better assets and were slightly closer to winning a playoff berth. Actually, yeah I talked myself out of it. Great article, but I don't see sox as having done anything specifically path-changing. The White Sox had big, cheap assets to sell. The rebuild would take forever if they were just depending on the draft, and June 2 signings. Fulmer, Collins, Burger, those were the guys losing got you. If not for Sale, Eaton and Q, the Sox rebuild might take 10 years. It's really a rebuild like no other, maybe the Marlins currently, but they got nowhere near the return for Stanton because he wasn't cheap.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 12:22 PM) Again, March 29 and April 5...very little difference...and to what end? Just getting all of the Day 1 games in? Not just day 1 but days 2-10. Starring down a couple DHs this early isn't good. This isn't an era teams are built on starting pitchers going 7 innings. It might still be cold and horrible in the middle of April, but average temps are higher. Increase the odds. Some of those dome teams can save on air conditioning in the summer if they played an extra series at home now.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 12:15 PM) Why? Because it's a huge deal to play 15 games on Day 1? That was going to happen for the first time in decades, but two games had to be pushed back a day. They got the games in. Again, it's a knee-jerk reaction to say "Start in domes and warm weather", but bottom line, April weather sucks and they aren't going to start northern teams on the road for a month. So it's just a thing they have to deal with. April weather sucks, March is even worse. They now start at the end of March. The first week should be in all warmer weather places or domes. It's ridiculous to play baseball when it's 35 degrees. Yankees snowed out today. Mets snowed out today. Great schedule. You want as many games as you can to be played. Its obviously not possible to create a schedule that guarantees they all will, but DHs take it's toll on teams the way the game is played today. It's time to be smarter with the schedule. They can get the Cubs 3 series on the road before their home opener because they are working on the stadium even though they would all be sellouts anyways. A team like the White Sox could use the same thing to make a little more money at the gate and concession stands.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 10:23 AM) Some time back, I had an idea that if MLB wanted to start the season earlier and reduce weather postponements, they just needed to start the season where the first week or so had all teams playing in warm weather cities and domed stadium cities. It's nice to see them take my advice - for the most part - except Cincinnati, Kansas City, New York and Detroit. They could have had the Giants, Astros, Brewers, and Cardinals have home games, but that's their fault. I was watching a spring training game that featured the Mariners, and they had their GM in the both. They were so excited to be opening at home for only the second time in 10 or 15 years. The GM couldn't believe it. He said maybe they need to remind MLB they have a roof if needed. It is stupid not to take advantage of your warmer weather places and cities with a roof when you can.
