  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:04 PM) Also, for the price of beer, isn't it about $12 for a 22oz beer? That doesn't seem TOO bad to me honestly. That's almost 2 cans/bottles. Last year I saw a guy buy 4 PBRs and it was $35. He gave the vendor $40 and told him to keep it. I was in Jewel later that day, a 30 pack of PBRs $13.99. Supposedly Chicago sports teams get their beer cheaper than any other business. The amount of profit is absolutely crazy.
  2. At first I thought it was President Bannon, then I thought perhaps President Jared, but now we know Fox and Friends is truly the President of the United States. Trump is their parrot.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:28 AM) Shields could be dropped to the pen also and no one would be mad. Heck, with a rotation that young I wouldn't mind going to a 6 man rotation for a few weeks either if the roster could take it. I read where Shields was in line to start on Opening Day. Probably the worst opening day starter the White Sox have thrown out their since Jaime Navarro.
  4. No biggie. We know about what he is worth if he is pitching well as a flip. I'm sure he's cheap, and innings will be available.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 03:59 PM) As far as slick-fielding SS, we also acquired Yeyson Yrizarri. Might as well grab as many of these guys as you can if they don't cost anything. There have been several slick fielding SS that couldn't hit initially, who became really good players.
  6. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 10:20 AM) In the overall scheme of things, 1 million isn't a lot. There are 123 million full-time workers in the country right now. I don't know if that includes part time workers or not. Less than 1% of them live in poverty? What is really the poverty level vs. what is considered the poverty level are two very different things.
  7. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:27 AM) This is completely anecdotal but I actually worked at a Wal-Mart for about 3 years in the early 2000s. I don't remember how much I was actually making, probably around $7/hour or so. Maybe $8/hour. It was simply a second job for me so I didn't care all that much. Most of the people I worked with were either younger (HS/college age) and didn't have a family to support or were a second income for their family. Their spouse worked somewhere else and made decent enough money. Most of the people that were the main bread-winnners for their family were in supervisor or management positions where they made more money. According to one of the articles I read the average salary for their full-time workers is already $13. So I wonder what percentage of their workforce this will actually affect. I also read that the bonus is UP TO $1000 based on service time. Only employees with 20 years of service will get the full $1000. Yeah, just their lowest employees get a raise, and if they work a full day it comes to probably just under $7 a day after taxes since their minimum was $10.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 08:55 AM) AT&T laid off thousands after the GOP tax cut. I get to see next week if I get any sort of raise. Fingers crossed. My employer gave us 2 mousepads. One to take home.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 08:51 AM) https://t.co/3goQfjM7vC Country’s top employer raises minimum wage and gives bonuses as a result of GOP tax plan. Bonuses aren't as good as raises. Also, try to live on $11 an hour. Do you really think this is a windfall for those employees?
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 12:08 AM) That makes a lot of sense, actually. I used to think you were playing dumb on purpose to get a rise out of me, but now I know you just aren't even bothering to consider what I'm saying. Finding a way to be insulted by someone who is trying to concede credit to you is a weird way to go through life, though. I actually go through life just fine, thank you.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:17 AM) Dude you have to read past the first sentence. If you're not willing to do that, there's a limited amount of information that I can convey to you. Why would I? You had the need to put in all caps I claimed the guy sucked for no reason. i am not the first to stop reading a post when it starts out as ridiculous as that.
  12. Memphis megachurch pastor Andy Savage admits to sexually assaulting a 17 year old HS student while serving as a 22 year old youth pastor. His flock gave him a standing O for coming clean about his sin. It does appear his new book "The Ridiculously Good Marriage" won't be published however.
  13. Yesterday he was all about compromise, would sign anything the people in the room agreed upon. Today, back to the wall. I know I would feel a lot safer with the wall. Face it, they aren't sending their best. Rapists, murderers, drug dealers, and fraudulent voters who only vote democrat are the ones coming over. It needs to stop. Trump will get this big wall built very cheaply, and it will be beautiful, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 06:47 PM) Whenever this thread ends, I predict the last post will be from Kagaku saying, "My Wife left me." And his winnings will be cut in half.
  15. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:54 AM) http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2202512...er-hoping-trade Apparently Starlin Castro is now asking to be traded from the Marlins. Would it make sense to take on Castro's contract to lower the price for Yelich? With all the heat the Marlins and Commissioner's office has already taken, there is no way they are trading Yelich for a lesser package if the other team takes on some other money.
  16. Adam Jahns seems pretty sure Fangio is coming back. He was supposedly the second highest paid coordinator in the game last year, and with an offensive young coach, that probably made the Bears want to retain him even more. It does contradict what many of the beat writers were writing earlier, that if he wasn't the head coach Fangio was out of there, and that the reason the Bears didn't want to fire Fox during the season was they didn't want Fangio to take over and do well because there were some in the upper levels Vic rubbed the wrong way. He is 59 years old. Chances are, his odds of ever landing a HC position in the NFL are very long.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:21 AM) It is also a great example of what happened in Texas where they had Arod, but nothing else to surround him with. The Sox at least have young talent to surround him with, but if they are as successful as hoped, and that success is to be sustained, they are all going to get expensive at the same time. It would be interesting to see how the White Sox did revenue-wise with a team that was really good for several years. They have had it before, but not in the additional WC era, and there always seemed to be something to derail it. Either a strike or major injuries. The last time they rebuilt, a couple of major pieces fled when it was time to get paid. Black Jack got traded for a meager piece, sorry Lyle Mouton. Young Alex left, and the Boy Wonder wound up with the Mets.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:08 AM) This is a great example of "Penny-wise, pound-foolish". So the plan is to make an offer right away great enough they cannot say no. If it ever was possible a possibility could be less than zero, this would be it.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:03 AM) If the White Sox came in and met their price, and they weren't ready to take it, the White Sox could easily go elsewhere also. Then that will be probably what happens. I would think if teams are budgeting for Harper and wind up losing out, they still have that money available to pay someone, so the motivation to grab an offer while they can is probably moot.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 09:36 AM) If Rick Hahn is convinced that Machado is their guy, then Machado should be the first big signing of the offseason. Harper won't sign early, we all know that will wait until the winter meetings if not longer because Boras. If 3b/SS is still our need next offseason and Machado is target #1, the extra $2-3 million a year we might save on him by negotiating isn't worth the risk of him going somewhere else. Call them up on the day that he declares FA, get their numbers, put an offer on the table that works for you, and get it done in November. If you are Machado's agent, what's the rush? Wouldn't you want to see if the teams that were willing to pony up the money for Harper and didn't land him, may want to spend on your client?
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 09:30 AM) You literally responded to a post where I typed an entire paragraph acknowledging and giving you credit for your reasons with a response repeating that I am ignoring your reasons. No, correction: if you or greg write he sucks FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER, you'll get backlash. In the post you accused me of saying he sucks for no reason. I have reasons for all of my opinions. Kind of a meatball assumption on your part.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 09:10 AM) You don't even read what I type, do you? Funny, I could say the same thing. I have provided you plenty of reasons for my view. You have said I have provided none. Sorry my view doesn't line up with the math, but sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I'm wrong and sometimes I'm right. But my view is my view. It really doesn't bother me you don't agree, or anyone else.
  23. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 08:51 AM) I'm just amazed at the kind of play this relatively minor move has gotten. He's basically signed to a 1/7 deal with an option. Plus we got Avilian. Maybe both guys regress from their peripherals. Does it even really matter? This trade doesn't prevent us from doing anything next year or even this year. It's a flyer like last year Holland signing was. I don't think anyone has questioned the trade at all. Just a couple of us think Soria sucks, and a few more don't think he does.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 08:23 AM) I never understand the whole conference pride thing. If you hate a team 364 days a year, how are you going to root for them that one day of the year? I hope OSU loses every playoff game they play. The B1G winning a national title does nothing to make Illinois stop sucking. Not to mention, the reason all of these SEC teams have to fire coaches every 3 years is because Alabama is so much better than everyone else. If they keep winning and keep recruiting, it just hurts the other SEC teams in the long run, it's harder and harder to make the playoffs. If OSU was playing Alabama, and I pretty much hate OSU 364 days a year, I definitely would want them to win. I want all big ten teams to win their bowl games. It's good for the conference. The better other teams are, the better the team you root for in the same conference will have to be. Maybe it helps OSU more, but they get a top of the line recruiting class just about every year anyway. I think it does help the rest of the conference as well.
  25. QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 02:29 PM) I remember alot of posters saying the same thing about Quintana last year. Just don't think the team operates like that. But would make for a fun SoxFest. I don't think anything major like a trade would be held up for Soxfest, but over the years, they have made some signings lining up with the event. Kenny Lofton, AJP, and a few others. I know Iguchi was rumored and I think it happened just a couple of days after it. I remember KW in a seminar speaking about him without mentioning him. It was obvious he knew he was coming. But it does add a bit of flair to the festivities. Where they are at right now, who knows, maybe some interesting name reclimation project/flip candidate would be announced.
