QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) Breaking with longstanding US Presidential tradition of taking questions from the press in China as a message about free speech and free media, Trump lets China dictate that no questions be asked. https://twitter.com/kaitlancollins/status/928494673668296704 Remember when he was going to get so tough on China, declare them a currency manipulator and kick off a trade war? "We can't continue to allow China to rape our country and that's what they're doing. It's the greatest theft in the history of the world," Trump told a campaign crowd in May 2016.

It seems the reason anyone would buy that particular plane is to fly a bit irresponsibly.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) That's a scary number for the other 29 teams, given everything else they have going for them. Yes, the only question would be would they truly let him do both, especially if they are in win now mode. . -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) So this was the response I was waiting for. How many of those incidents involved non-responsible gun owners, people with mental illnesses, or people with violent/criminal backgrounds? Yes, certain people shouldn’t be allowed to own guns. I have said this multiple times now. But how does RockRaines owning a gun and keeping it in a safe that only he can access put his family at greater risk? If responsible, owning a gun for self defense is nothing more than an insurance policy that you will hopefully never have to use. Where I live I don’t feel one is needed, but I know plenty of people who live in areas where having a gun for home defense becomes a legitimate consideration. The fact is not everyone is going to be responsible.not every mental illness is easily diagnosed, and some people get worse over time. Should you have to have a mental check up every year? I don't want a gun. If Rock thinks he needs one , that's his deal, it's legal. Hopefully the gun is never needed , and hopefully never fired except on a range or something. But stats show they don't necessarily make you safer. Good guys shooting bad guys doesn't happen as often as good guys shooting good guys.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) I have no idea what data you’re referring to or what point you’re trying to make. I own guns for hunting/sport (which I rarely use anymore) but keep none in my house so your theory that guns make me feel a certain way is odd. I’m simply speaking on behalf of people who feel they need a gun in their house for safety. Also, I have already said a normal gun was more than enough to function for home defense and assault weapons most certainly should be banned. So let me ask you this, are you suggesting that owning a gun for home defense is more dangerous than not owning a gun? If so, I’d love to hear more about this data you’re referring to, because I’m struggling to grasp how responsible gun ownership within one’s household would somehow decrease their safety. In 2012, there were 20,666 suicides involving guns, 8,342 homicides involving guns, 548 accidental shooting deaths, and 259 justifiable homicides defending the home. It appears that not having a gun around would be safer. almost 2 million kids live in homes with unlocked and loaded guns. Currently the stats are living in a home with a gun makes you twice as likely to be a victim of a homicide e and 3 times more likely to commit suicide. I am sure there are plenty of responsible gun owners that keep their weapons locked up and in areas their kids can't get access. But wouldn't that also work against having the weapon ready to go if you needed it right away?

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) http://www.twinkietown.com/2011/5/10/21633...hing-to-contact There's no evidence that pitching to contact actually leads to lower pitch counts or longer outings though. At bats that end in a ball in play do have fewer pitches on average than those that end in a strikeout, but while the latter is a guaranteed out (except for rare dropped 3rd strikes), many balls in play fall in for hits and will prolong the inning, so pitching to contact often actually leads to higher pitch counts, especially if you don't have a good defense behind you, which the Sox have rarely had. The problem is for some reason 100 pitches is a magic number. But the max effort to get every MPH out of yourself as possible, while maybe productive in the short run, I wonder how sustainable it is. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) I had to reread 3x to make sure there was no allegation against the Edge in there. That would disappoint me in humanity greatly. Nothing to worry about there. From what my mom and dad told me, he's a very nice guy.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Well, didnt one of Trump's flunkies say changes at CNN are coming not too long ago? With this news, watch CNNs ratings go up, and we know who is all about ratings, except when they are his own.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Turner being owned by someone else wouldn't change how profitable they are though, right? FT's headline "TRUMP DOJ DEMANDS CNN SALE!" is just so misleading. Out on their own and not with ATT and the rest of Time Warner probably would weaken them. They aren't selling Direct TV, so the administration basically is telling them to sell the unit that includes CNN or else. Maybe it's justified. I have no idea. But the thought of it being political is definitely there.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) I know that's the breathless FT headline, but in what way would AT&T selling off Turner Broadcasting hurt CNN? On the surface, I'm going to be in favor of actually enforcing some antitrust protections that have been neglected for far too long. Turner makes huge profits. Less money to throw into CNN which can weaken the station. It wouldn't bother me as long as the reason isn't based on perceived politics.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I guess this has become a catch-all. It’s all over Twitter that Charlie Sheen is accused of sodomizing then 13 Corey Haim. https://www.google.com/amp/www.dailymail.co...-set-Lucas.html My next door neighbor growing up had a role in that movie. She now lives in Ireland and is married to the Edge from U2's best friend. My parents went to the wedding and my mom sat next to him. She called him "Mr. Edge".
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) I actually think that would be a reasonable stipulation except for the fact that Mike Flynn was spouting off that CNN was gonna see big changes soon. The question would be if Fox News was an asset instead of CNN, would the same request be made? If you think the answer is no, this is really, really bad.
-
At a contentious meeting on Monday, the Department of Justice's antitrust chief gave AT&T a choice: to get your purchase of Time Warner done, either sell off CNN's parent unit or DirecTV, or we'll see you in court. Speculation the Trump administration is retaliating for CNN's coverage of Agent Orange.

I loved the one where they were talking to the woman going through the checklist of things Trump said he would do that he hasn't done, and she doesn't care, she likes him because he does what he says he will do. And they are racist. Why didn't the woman who lost her son to an OD just tell him drugs were bad?

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) I don't think they necessarily need to see him as much as I would think they'd want to send a message and begin to create a relationship with him, which I have no doubt the other teams were trying to do. I don't know how much of a relationship is built sending a team of people over there to watch him play. If they have a shot, they will do what they did with Tanaka, meet with him and give him a presentation. I think the odds are overwhelming he plays somewhere else. Of course I also utimately believe he will not be playing in the US in 2018. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) If I remember correctly the Sox were one of the teams not to have sent anyone to see him pitch this year. That can't bode well. Considering what they can offer, I don't think they would need a scout to tell them he would be worth it. KW only saw tape of Iguchi. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) Donald Trump Jr. is taking to twitter to urge Republicans to VOTE GILLESPIE! in VA tomorrow The election is today. I wonder if he thinks 11/8 is always election day? He did it twice, and in between was busy calling Keith Olbermann a dumb ass.

QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) If it's a white guy, the left calls for gun control. The right blames mental health and pretends it's a non-issue. If it's a Muslim, the left calls for gun control. The right starts blowing their racist dog whistle. I agree with this 100%. If a Muslim shoots up a nightclub, the right doesn't question how he got the cache to pull it off. It's all about why was he let in. If he's white, he's a deranged individual. s*** happens. Thoughts and prayers.

The attitude that making getting a gun tougher won't change anything is BS. There will still be mass shootings. The wrong people will still have guns, but even if it prevents only one of these, it's well worth the time and effort getting it done. Who knows, the next one may victimize someone you know. The NRA should not be in charge of US gun policy.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 12:33 PM) I hope your post is true. I hope that's true. Once a payroll is as low as the Sox and the money pours in, it'll be pretty easy for the owners to keep a tiny payroll and enjoy all the money rolling in. Especially if the young guys are good. Sox can claim rebuild is working while spending pennies. Hope they do what's right next offseason. Don't forget ... wait til next year is a sad saying in sports and it seems to me we have a lot of undemanding fans who love the idea of "wait til next year" or "wait til 2020 through 25." I will agree that it is very surprising the percentage of fans who think there is about a 0% failure rate on a rebuild. Hopefully it all works out. They do have a few really good looking prospects. -
The building where I work is a gun free zone. I might have to tell my boss I cannot work under these conditions. The building is a killing zone.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 7, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) I agree with all of this. This isn't a new problem. Mass shootings have been happening for decades. Neither political party seems to be able to fix it. Everyone keeps yelling that we need to do "something" but nobody seems to know exactly what that "something" is. What something would be is the weakening of the NRA. There are far too many guns on the streets. More guns means more gun related deaths. I don't know how anyone could conclude anything else.
