  1. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) Take away these losses and you take away the deterrent. That's literally all we have to stop these people from doing corrupt things. If all they had to do is get out of politics and pay a fine, EVERYONE would do it and work really hard to put off getting caught until they're older. Frankly I'd increase the penalties for corruption. Make some examples of people. There should be more criminal charges and longer sentences. And if it's money involved, they should pay every dime back. So Blago is in jail. Ryan was in jail. Politicians are still corrupt. They are only going to get more corrupt because of the system. It costs so much money to win an election they are almost all in to someone.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) I am not sure I could disagree more. White collar crime like bribery can cause just as much societal damage, either it be through distrust of institutions or in some cases schemes that end up in death like Ryan, but get viewed as harmless since they weren't holding guns to peoples heads. They deserve the same punishment. They were given power, they knew better, they took advantage. They don't deserve a soft landing. Should those accused of cyber crimes just get house arrest? If they can't use computers, etc. Ryan is out now. Blago will be out in a few years. Put an ankle bracelet on him. Make him stay at home. Everyone wins. He still is stuck, but at least his daughters and wife have their father and husband. And taxpayers don't have to pay for his jailing.
  3. It's funny Trump wants Hillary locked up for crimes that didn't occur, but wants a lot of credit for UCLA basketball players being released from jail even though they committed crimes that were recorded.
  4. Blago learned his lesson but I don't know why having him in jail on the taxpayers' dime is doing anyone any good. He's no threat to society. Let him out, if he has to be punished further, put him on house arrest with an ankle bracelet. Let him by his own food. George Ryan was the same. Not letting him be with his dying wife? It's not like he was going to go blow away a hospital. I get corrupt politicians are horrible. And I get there should be repercussions for doing what they did (although what ultimately got Blago just about every pol could be charged). Non violent criminals at Club Fed makes no sense to me. Let them stay at home.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) One name I look at, Billy McKinney. Only 23, did well in AA/AAA, has no future in NY. I think he would be a good piece. I read an article last May or June saying he was a guy they would trade because of this issue, but then he had a huge year, so who knows? Chances are the Sox aren't going to spend their total allotment. Might as well trade some of it for lottery tickets. They hit on one or two of these guys it would be awesome.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) *Suggestive eyebrow raise* Though the sonny gray trade helped a bit in that regard. They are trying to trade several average prospects for Profar because of this crunch.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Are we aware of how much money we have left? We had 2 300k signings (I believe). 2.973 million-600k = 2.373 million 2.373 million - 500k = 1.873 million Unknown how much we traded on the other two transactions correct? Say those were both 500k on conservative end, hopefully conservatively we could make another trade like this. I thought they get more than that.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) Twins, Yankees, and Rangers come to mind. The Yankees have a 40 man roster crunch problem as well.
  9. The White Sox should find a couple of other teams that want to up their offers to Otani and take some prospects off their hands. If you can get a top 8 prospect for $500k, what could you get for a couple of million?
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) I haven't watched a ton this year because with Lavine out the only interesting Bulls player is Markkanen but the guard play is just painful to watch every time I do tune in. None of Valentine, Dunn, Holiday, Grant or Zipser have any offensive ability. I used to really like Pax, but have concluded with Pax, Gar and Fred there, that franchise has zero chance to win a championship. They are making a ton of money, and LaVine is decent, Markkanen looks good, a nice pick coming...It's time Michael Reinsdorf gave the keys to someone else to select their next draft pick, and maybe have that person convince another really good player to take their money, and pick a coach that can command a locker room. This year is going to be awful and would have been no matter who was coaching or GMing or Presidenting or whatever. Maybe next year or at least the year after won't if they can pick the right people. But Gar, Pax, and Fred on the same bus with John Fox.
  11. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) What would stop a guy like Maitan from taking millions to play in the NPB for three years and then come back to play in the majors? That path would create a much larger earning opportunity and he could come back to a Tanaka like deal and not have to go through years of team control and the arbitration process. If he progresses the way that people think, a 23 year old Maitain could get a huge FA deal instead of perhaps entering his second year at the league minimum. He's still 18. Probably won't be ready, and I'm not sure of the rules. If he only played there 3 years, I think he would still be subject to the amateur caps.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) He also gets to keep his new money. Great insight. Thanks! I would never have guessed it.
  13. If he gets thrown back out on the market, if he is like the Boston guys, he'll get to keep his Braves money.
  14. I really was thinking Franken, but that's by the boards now, although if he grabbed her by the p****.... The other guy I like is Gavin Newsom. Younger, good looking guy, was married to a Fox News personality who I believe is now dating the Mooch. Seems to have some good ideas.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) If this is going to be something more than just a blip, like after Anita Hill, they need to truly get pushed out and not just apologize. He should resign. I agree, the problem is, there are so many, and the potential to make it even more political will be immense. Either party can attack senators and congressmen and officials even higher up with lines of people making false claims. It will be the new move. Gloria Allred will be a billionaire. At least most of the claims coming out now, can be corroborated. Probably 95% of politicians will be accused. But it has to stop. I have posted a couple of times, the casting couch has long been known, and long been laughed about. How many times have you heard or read who did she have to blow to get that job? People with power cross the line all the time. Hopefully all these stories do something to make it stop. But I'm afraid it will be a blip.
  16. Well there goes my idea of Al Franken for President. The photo doesn't appear like he is touching her but the thought is obviously wrong, and what he did earlier that evening was wrong. All these assholes need to be exposed.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) Its not nearly that simple, DA. Niko pushed him twice, then stepped at him like he was going to hit him and THEN Portis busted his face. Nobody in the real world would be like "Niko is justified, portis is a criminal". They would be like "Portis defended himself after Niko pushed him twice and then acted like he was gonna throw a punch" But this isnt the real world, this is a sport where guys get into dustups. They both lost valuable time on the court for their respective careers. Its time for Niko to play, and he is going to have to play with Portis. He doesnt have to forgive and forget, but he is going to have to suck it up until one of them goes to another organization I understand that, although the initial reports were Portis sucker punched him after some shoving. Now, since it's pile on Niko time, the tide goes the other direction. There are fights and there are fights. Breaking someone's face is not defending yourself. I don't know why so few can't understand Niko's position. He's fine with leaving. It has to wait. He's not comfortable around the guy. I don't think that is acting like a child. Kendall Gill punched the Doyle idiot from NU and got fired. He didn't send him to the hospital. It was apparent once this happened, one of them needed to go. I really don't think it will cost the Bulls any titles either way it turns out. If they want it to go away quickly, send Portis on his way, or let Niko ride a bike until it's time he can be dealt.
  18. Niko is really getting a lot of crap in the media for not "acting grown up". I wonder what these people would think about working with someone who just busted their face. Yeah, you'll miss some work but when you get back, you just sit in a room and work it out with this person. I'm thinking that wouldn't happen in the real world. Niko's stance is justified. What Portis did is a criminal act.
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) Sources: #Braves’ penalties will include loss of prospects. Story: https://t.co/37hSP0rcWr $ https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/930986548073566208 Unfortunately have to be a subscriber to read full article. Tho hopefully maitan is one of the prospects. Sox would have no shot at him with only $300k to throw his way.
  20. I really want to like Kris Dunn. He needs to play the old 6 on 6 girls style, where all he plays is defense. He looks like a potential star on that end, but looks like Cam Payne on th offensive end.
  21. There is a quote from Hahn at the end. Certainly doesn't sound like a guy not interested, but probably realistic about his chances. There is a lot to sell if he is trying to make his own mark and RH and JR are contract geniuses. I am sure if he will listen they will talk to him, http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/11/14/sho...te-sox-pursuit/
  22. It would be foolish not to try considering what you have to pay and no team can offer more than $3 million more. It would be a huge windfall for the franchise if he said OK. It's a real long shot but unless his people have already said not interested, worth a pitch. I can't imagine they wouldn't be interested in adding him to the roster. That makes zero sense.
  23. There is some talk that Trump is saying nothing about Moore due to fear of how his accusers may react.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) It was reported at the time of the showcase - which was some time ago so I do not recall. I'll pull a google search to see if I can dig it up thou. Rosenthal I don't think that was a showcase. I don't think he held a showcase. Just scouts at his game. I am pretty sure KW never saw Iguchi or Shingo live before signing them. If he was willing to take the Sox $300k, I am sure they wouldn't object. He's a big time signing, but not a high level financial risk. The $20 million posting fee is it. And signing him makes them a ton of money from Japan. It's a no brainer. It's pretty much guaranteed to make money. Whatever team he ultimately signs with he is doing a huge favor. He's like Michael Jordan in Japan. His new team will be printing money.
