  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 05:39 PM) I like this idea. I think it makes the most sense. And I am a guy who doesn't understand the sort of sainthood many have given Fangio. The d dense has had some real issues and it isn't John Fox. Fox needs to go, but he is far from the only one. I wonder how many 6-10s or 7-9s before it's time for a special Pace bus at Soldier Field. Trubisky needs time, but the jury is out on all his drafts. You are drafting that high for 3 years in a row some impact should be seen. His free agents have been mediocre at best. How he left the re eiving corp this year is unfathomable, he needs to be at the very least, on the clock. The problem is if he is hiring the next coach, and it appears Ernie Accorsi hired the first, he probably is going to be around for a while no matter what.
  2. QUOTE (gatnom @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) He gets 4 years regardless, but they purposefully inflated that freshmen number. They pretty much refused to play anybody they didn't recruit. That is how you build a program. Barry Alvarez got about half of Wisconsins roster to leave just based off off season workouts. He sucked for a couple of years. Lovie and his coaches apparently don't want Beckman's players and it appears to be a smart decision.
  3. You can't blame this game on Fox, but if the Bears are going to let him go after the season, they really should let him go now. Get a look at Fangio leading the team. They had 10,000 no shows vs Detroit, and might have double that next week vs. SF. Let Vic run that game and it might even make some more show up. The Christmas Eve game vs. Cleveland might set a team record for fan no shows.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) I had a similar thought when he called Nebraska a blue blood. It's hard to be a blue blood still when the program is averaging 5 losses per year for over a decade. Like Michigan?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) You can be mad at them for their choices of signings, but I for one don't miss Alshon Jeffery. It would be nice if the Bears actually had NFL level receivers to help with their #1 pick's development. Jeffery was that. Whether he wanted to be there or not isn't really relevant. The team held all the cards. I will admit not having any receivers does help make the coaching staff look stupid. But IMO, the issue is far deeper than that.
  6. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) Greg: Like everything else last year for him he got better in those areas but his fundamentals are still poor. His defense is not great, he'd be a better DH if his power numbers were better. Keeping him actually off the field is best for all concerned. They gave him enough chances. Just release him and get off my lawn.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) I totally disagree with this. Yes, the Bears are weak at WR, but Alshon Jeffery was not a good fit for the Bears. The last 2 years he only played 21 games. He was regularly injured. He has a PED suspension on his record. He's a solid #2 receiver on a good team when he's healthy. If he were on the Bears their WR corps was going to be better than this but it would still be awful, they wouldn't be anywhere close to a playoff team, and I've still got no confidence he would be on the field right now on the Bears as some guys just get hurt more in certain roles (i.e. #1 WR). The Bears are going to have to spend at that position, but Alshon Jeffery was not a good fit and they will be better off aiming for some other WR either in the draft or elsewhere. You want to be frustrated, be frustrated that they spent $15 million on Glennon when Kaepernick was available for a ton less than that. Markus Wheaton does have a catch this year.
  8. Alshon Jeffery is exhibit A if I had to explain to the McCaskeys why firing Fox isn't enough. It seems for every decent move Pace makes, he offsets it with something unbelievably ridiculous.
  9. QUOTE (gatnom @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) Next year is a big year for Lovie. If he can't find a way to show some sort of progress on the field or a not bottom of the B1G recruiting class, he's pretty done for IMO. He probably already is, but I need to have some hope for something. Unlike most coaches 2 years in, Louie has only had one of his own recruiting classes in uniform. They played more true freshmen than any other school. If they jack Lovie if they suck next year, which they will, they will never be good. I think the bigger concern for Illinois would be if Lovie decides he doesn't need this. The Beckman hire was one of the worst of all time.
  10. John Thierry, former Bears LB, dead at 46. Massive heart attack. RIP.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Why can't Rick Hahn see this and agree with this. Seems to me he's intent on trading Avi and Abreu from what Dick has posted. He's in love with the fact fans worship him for the rebuild. And Jerry has to deep down love it too cause the payroll is making him and the partners gazillions of dollars in their later years with fan approval, not scorn. It'$ a win/win for Jerry and the partner$. He will need another team to dance with him, but it was pretty obvious his preference would be for someone to make a nice offer. These guys are signed for 2 years. I want the Sox to win as much as anyone, but it isn't happening in 2018, and most likely not in 2019. Do you take a chance these guys play great and cost a mint to bring back in 2020, or worse yet, fall apart, and happily let them leave for nothing? Or do you get more prospects who may be able to help you when the window opens, and always have the possibility of bringing either or both back when you are ready to contend? He isn't going to give them away, and on this board over the past couple years there have been more than a couple posts wishing they would just give them away. I agree prospectitis can be a silly disease. When they don't work out, it is painful. But where they are now, it makes sense to deal them both if the price is right.
  12. For all those wanting Abreu around for leadership, in the meeting I was in, Hahn said it was a factor, but not as big of one as production, and mentioned diminishing returns on others JA age. They can trade these guys and sign them when they become free agents. Their production in 2018, and most likely 2019 (RH has recently stated 2020 might be more realistic) really doesn't do anything for when the team will be ready. I really think they want to trade these guys unless maybe they agree to a really team friendly extension.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) The Commander-in-chief So he has no idea about F 35s, yet is going to take full credit for them.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 09:44 PM) This is not my understanding of how it went down. Mooney and Hayes were let go after their contracts expired. She supposedly voluntarily resigned and took this other job. I am guessing she wouldn't have been laid off because she still had time on her contract, but realized after it expired, she wasn't getting a new one. I would guess Vince Goodwill is in the same boat. It's all too bad. I doubt these people are making huge salaries.
  15. I keep seeing the beat guys say if Fox is fired and Fangio isn't named the head coach, he will not be with the Bears next year. For all you posters who know more about football than I do, if they do get a new DC it really has to be a 3-4 guy doesn't it? Wouldn't going back to a 4-3 screw them up for at least a season or 2?
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) And yet, since he went against Trump, the impression of him got better in a lot of people's eyes. Heel vs heel never works. These 2 are basically the same. Since they hate each other maybe they each hate themselves.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) According to MLB network, 3 teams have over $3 million to spend (Rangers, Yankees, Twins) and the Pirates have about 2.2 million. 18. There is a bar in WI that has free beer on Sundays until the Packers score. They got shutout last Sunday.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Trump would highly recommend him for office. He would make America great again. Since MAGA was Trump's campaign slogan, that implies it wasn't great. How unpatriotic. And for a guy who hates to be politically correct, he sure does take a politically correct view on standing for the National Anthem.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) He was a doctor for Team USA gymnastics The Detroit News‏Verified account @detroitnews 1h1 hour ago BREAKING: Nassar pleads guilty to raping underage gymnasts http://detne.ws/2jOk23Y via @kimberkoz His next move should be to become a senator.
  21. It looks like a couple of these guys will be the Otani consolation gifts.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) Of those four, really only the Mariners have a regular DH that would compete for ABs. Believe me, I love to follow the NPB and I want Otani on the White Sox BADLY (I subscribe to the PL streaming service and watched all of Otani's starts this year), but this one is looking to be very, very unlikely for us. Really, no AL team has less to offer him on paper than we do. We're not currently a contender, have the least amount of money to give, exist in an underperforming media market (given the Cubs and compared to LA/NYC), and we have a guy who will likely need to compete for DH at bats going forward (Abreu). On top of that, the Sox are one of the few teams who didn't bother to send anyone to go see him pitch this year, and there have been no indications that they've contacted his agent. To me, it appears that the Sox consciously chose to put their eggs in the Luis Robert basket instead of joining the scrum for Otani, knowing that they had a much better chance of landing Robert given their ability to spend big and offer a Cuban-friendly clubhouse. I agree for the most part, but there are a couple of AL teams that can't even offer $300k at this time. But I do think they should throw some presentation to him anyway. I would imagine most teams figured Otani was going to wait a couple of years. But they can offer him a DH role 5 days a week and see where it takes himI did read that the consensus is the team signing him will have to go to some sort of 6 man rotation initially. I think since contention will not be in the cards, he would have a more legit chance at doing both than will some other teams. It is probably worse than 100 to 1 he takes the team's best offer, but this is like a $2 billion prize in mega millions. You know you aren't going to win, but you buy the $1 ticket just in case. I would think he signs with the Yankees.
  23. It will be interesting. Tams have already allocated their funds or are, saving it for Otani, the fact these kids get to keep their Braves money could help the White Sox. If you had nothing, the difference between $325k and $300k is huge. If you have a million or so in the bank, not as huge. Comfort would become important.
  24. I listened to the OB, Hampton and Koz show yesterday, and again according to them, the loss was all John Fox. I think Fox needs to go, but these guys are getting ridiculous, especially since the person they want to replace him and supposedly is one of the worlds greatest offensive minds, just got fired today as OC of the Broncos. Apparently it isn't his fault they haven't scored 20 points in 7 of their last 8 games.
