QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) RBIs are hardly a meaningless stat. Teams win games by scoring more runs than the other team. RBIs are more important to a player like Abreu than a player who is a lead-off hitter. But since Abreu is a guy who typically bats 3rd, 4th, or 5th, RBIs are important since his job is to drive in the guys who have gotten on base. And it's not like the guys hitting in front of him have been on base machines.

Reminds me of Bobby Knight who was once asked if he had a team prayer before games. He said no, he didn't think God cared who won a basketball game.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:05 AM) Wasn't Ichiro about 27 when he entered the league? Should we disregard his accomplishments too? I believe the Japanese league was considered a higher level than the Cuban league. At least now. Maybe back before all the defections, not so much, but when Abreu came over, his projections were all over the place. Some were like Barry Bonds all juiced up, some were he will never be able to hit a decent fastball. All in all, he's been tremendous. I really think if he were more willing to take his walks, he could hit .340, but IMO that has to come naturally or you could really mess him up.

I really thing Trump is jealous of KJU. He did call him a "smart cookie" a few months ago and wanted to meet him. He probably loves how his people bow down to him. Something he wants here.
-
There are a lot of caveats, yes he wasn't the typical rookie, and itmight not be done again with players being stuck in the minors for super 2 and other arb issues to start a season. But if only one or two others have ever done it, It's quite an accomplishment. He's driven in a lot of runs for a very offensively challenged team for 4 years.

Jared Kushner has used private email to communicate with other WH staff, his attorney has confirmed. Lock him up.

Trump said we have a great country, so he must have already made it great again. I wonder if it was OK to kneel last season.

The Steelers will be in the locker room during the National Anthem today.

Steelers wil not participate in the National Anthem today at Soldier Field. They will stay in the locker room.

Abreu has a leg or foot issue. I wonder if once he gets to 100 rbi they shut him down.
-
Trump disinvites GS Warriors to the White House. He really acts like he is about 5 years old.

Neel during the anthem, should be fired. Run aound with a Nazis flag, very good people with a permit. How many people b****ing about not standing during the anthem, are watching them do this while sitting on their couch or barstool during the anthem?

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:33 AM) Acknowledge truth. What was the blackmail angle?
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:29 AM) Nice try. The only ridiculous posts are ones like this one which try and mask the undeniable truth about the stadium extortion inflicted upon the state by the Sox owners. We are not talking about negotiating a sale or purchase. We are talking about blackmail in its purest form, plain and simple. That is what went down to force the state to finance the stadium construction, and you know it. And your unabashed hatred of my posts pointing out these facts doesn’t change a thing in this regard. Get help.
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:08 AM) Wow, talk about sugarcoating. Geesh! This post takes the cake. Well, you can spin it any way you like, but the fact remains: Blackmail = Blemish The owners taking actions that diverted even one penny of taxpayer money away from needs immensely greater than guaranteeing owner profits is an absolute black eye on the franchise’s history. The politicians may have allowed it, but they didn’t ask for it. As for “get what you can get when you can get it”, sure, why not. Next time you are at the grocery store and the cashier turns his head, grab as many items as you can hold and run out of the store without paying for them. That would be the same “great move” by you as the one you credit the owners with related to the stadium extortion. Have you ever negotiated a sale or purchase of a house or a car or anything else, and received a better deal because of it? If so, I wonder how you live with those blemishes every day. Your unabashed hatred of Reinsdorf makes you post really ridiculous things. Now the guy isn't supposed to negotiate what is best for him and his company, the state should have said no, and let him go. That is not on him. But public stadiums weren't unique to JR then, and they aren't now. At least for the most part, this wasn't financed by everyone in IL. It is financed by a hotel tax which theoretically pins the cost on visitors, although it is a tax that could have been spent on a lot of other things for the greater good. But many businesses get tons of tax breaks and other incentives to operate their business in Chicago. Look what Boeing got How does their presence in Chicago help you or me?

I like Phil Rogers but he just said he would rather have Lackey or Lester start a playoff game than Kershaw because of Kershaws postseason numbers up until now. Insane.

I hope they asked him what Gar should get credit for? The Luv a bulls are nice. Does he select them? -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) sorry I guess I just take it more seriously when there's direct evidence of the President's own son, son-in-law and campaign manager eagerly and willingly going to a meeting to collude with Russian agents representing themselves as working on behalf of the Russian government to get Trump elected. This is such a large and high profile case. Why would you expect them to just start throwing out piecemeal indictments before they've finished anyway? It's amazing the party that accused Obama of being an America hating Muslim born abroad, now isn't bothered in the least if some of their party is possibly in bed with apparently America's best buddy, Putin. This is a huge investigation. They don't go out arresting people the second they have them by the balls. It's going to take time, maybe some will turn on others.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) It's circumstantial. Not sure why you're arguing about it. The e-mail sets forth their desire to help the campaign and get sanction relief and their offer of dirt on Hillary. There's no evidence of what Trump's campaign offered in response, if anything, or even if those issues were discussed or if the dirt was a gift or if they wanted to exchange info for the promise of sanction relief. All of the details are unknown at this point. I have a feeling if this were Hillary's people, you would have a different take.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) It's not circumstantial evidence. It's explicitly a meeting to discuss the Russian government's help to get Trump elected, and they eagerly went to it. They never reported this meeting, and then when initially reported, lied multiple times about what the meeting was about and who was there. I'm honestly not sure how you can even get a more explicit example of evidence of willingness and desire to collude. Yes. Too many story changes. For a campaign that called a Republican opponent "lyin' Ted", and accuses the media of always lying, they have an unbelievably hard time with the truth. Everyone knows Trump is a con man whether they want to admit it or not. Whoever heard of a guy running for President whose own hometown voted against him 9-1? They know him better than the rest.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) I think in Putin's mind Trump is someone without experience or knowledge of how the world operates and he wants to use that to his advantage. I also think he knows that someone with a business background is more likely to negotiate and make deals, regardless of the public reaction. Clinton would have acted only in the best interests of her being reelected, so it wouldn't be favorable to him. Almost every politician acts only in the best interests of being reelected. In fact Trump tries to scare senators by saying they won't be reelected if they disagree with him. Trump acts in what he deems the best interest of Trump. Not the country.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) The media came out and said he committed a clear crime and yet no charges have been brought. It's a pretty clear cut case if true, so where's the indictment? Regardless, that still doesn't get us to the meddling that you all are claiming. At best you have Manafort asking for RNC contributions in exchange for sanction relief (illegal), but that's not "meddling" with the election system in the ways that are being alleged. What about the twitter bots? Even Russian media is saying that is true. And with all the contact between Russia and the Trump campaign, the question would have to be why? Why did they want Trump elected? What's in it for them? Trump is America first, is he not? And why so much contact? And why all the denials? And why all the changing of security clearance forms after "fake news" reported on these meetings these people you want running the country couldn't remember?

The next September win for the Bears under John Fox will be his first. It's not looking too good.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) So Melky in his age 32 season hitting .284, 17, 79 and has good advanced stats. Never been one of my favorites until this season when he stayed in the game despite getting hit in the face with a ball. I won't blast him because except for the BA he has Avi-like numbers but in this message board world, Melky is certainly beloved by Sox fans while a younger guy like Davidson who is trying to figure it out is not so loved. Although the poster who started the thread did praise him for his perseverance and putting up some decent numbers in his first season. So I'm assuming we all want Melky back even at 33? Cause that's a guy we like, right? I guess if he were to get too much money he'd be hated on the board and we'd want no part of him, but I'm assuming everybody is thinking 2 years about 5-6 million a year which is OK in Sox fanland. Melky isn't coming back unless he is willing to play for peanuts. And even then it's pretty questionable. He would be on the list, but probably not near the top. Hahn said he was good for the young players. I would think playing for next to nothing, and Jose Abreu being on another team are 2 big ingredients in a Melky return.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) Cooter and McDaniels are #1 / #2 (in no particular order) when it comes to assistants. When it comes to actual coaches, I'd roll out the Brinks truck for Harbaugh. He is my #1-#10 candidate. I should point out, the season is long and I'm not ready to just kick Fox to the curb either though. I am a believer in stability and I don't want to keep messing with Trubisky. Fox is a good coach. Is he amazing, probably not, but he is a good coach. Media hates his guts for a number of reasons and I know a lot of fans are upset with this whole Trubisky thing, but I actually commend the organization because I feel for once they are making the right "long" decision. I think the Texans and Browns were utter idiots in how they've rushed Watson/Kizer. That said, both of those guys were more prepared (in terms of college action, etc, for the NFL). Especially Watson, but I've seen early on the limitations in Watson's ability to be great, namely the fact that he just doesn't make good reads and he's wildly inconsistent with his ball placement. His overally moxy/leadership plus pure athleticism are pluses though and should enable him to be a solid QB in this league or a long-time. Interestingly enough, I've read from some people who took deep dives on the game film and saw some shots and man, Glennon really doesn't know how to read NFL defenses (or he's just not yet comfortable with our system (definitely possible) to know where guys are and work through his progressions, because there were quite a few times where there were guys very open in the game and we went into bad coverage). That said, I'm sure you can break down any QB and find that (just the nature of football) but it seemed on all of his bad picks / plays, we had much better options out there. I've very much noticed the fact that Glennon just doesn't look off guys, etc. If regular fans like us can see it, we'd all be ignorant to presume the coaching staff doesn't see it. Everyone in the building realizes Glennon can't be the bridge, but none of this was ever about Glennon...Glennon was clearly the "smokescreen" used to ensure the Bears could take a QB and surprise people. Had we kept Hoyer or Cutler, the whole league would have known our intentions at 3 and that is an uncomfortable spot to be given the fact that as you get closer to the draft, people ultimately move up to grab QB's. I keep hearing Mike McCoy. He was a bust in SD after a while, and Joey Bosa claimed he didn't promote accountablity, but he is an offensive wizard.
