QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) So glad that he decided to stay at Ok st. Looks like a bullet was dodged there. He still did some bad things while working for the new Illini coach. But his charges were for breaking laws not NCAA rules. If I were an Illini fan, and really liked Underwood, I would be at least a little nervous. Like Pitino, these guys are going to be looking for a new line of work. Unlike Pitino, they could be headed to jail. The one thing that can help them is singing to the feds. But I think he was with Underwood for only 1 season so that's probably good. -

One of Underwood's old assistants surrendered today. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) There doesn't seem to be a single form in existence that Jared Kushner can fill out properly. Yet he's the front man for peace in the Middle East.

Jared Kushner is registered to vote as a female.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) Perhaps i'm naive, but I tend to think that for the vast majority of schools and players this isn't an issue. It's an issue for the top level kids, because why wouldn't it? They know they've got a good shot at a future career in the pros, all they're looking for is a place to play bball for a season or two, and when you're the queen at the ball being courted by a number of suitors, why wouldn't you ask for what you're worth? I don't think there's anyway to combat this problem though. There's always going to be a need for this black market. Shoe companies and financial advisers and agents all want to be in a position to sign a guy the minute he declares. And you have the other problem that for the NCAA to enact real change, the NBA basically has to play along, but why would they? They have a free minor league system set up for them. If you are a star player in football or basketball at a school in a major conference, there is a pretty good chance someone is taking care of you. A friend of mine was a QB at an SEC school. A couple of us went to visit him once and were waiting for him after a game. He first had to talk to someone. He had a great game, the guy gave him $2k in cash to have a "good time tonight". He said he was given money all the time, everyone was. It's a program that was coached by a HOFer, and never had a scandalous reputation. -

One thing the scandalous program leaders like Pitino and Pearl should not have access, is a lucrative TV gig covering NCAA basketball after they are forced out. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) Why aren't they waiving these restrictions that would help get more much needed supplies to Puerto Rico? Profits. Trump on why he won’t waive the Jones Act: “A lot of people who are in the shipping industry don’t want” it lifted. Profiting off natural disasters is winning. F the Puerto Ricans, they can't vote for Trump. We will be winning so much, we will be sick of it. Believe me.

There really is nothing in these stories any of us didn't think was happening anyways. Players getting paid...check. Guys getting directed towards agents...check. Street agents getting kick backs....check. Coaches having "no idea".......check. It will be interesting to see how far this goes. You have to figure Kentucky is guilty. Kansas seems like a good bet. Duke getting busted would be the hugest story. All the one and done schools. They only have to pay these guys for a season. It will also be interesting to see how this affects college BB moving forward. Do the one and dones disperse a bit more? Right now it seems like they will go to one of maybe 5 or 6 schools. Mizzou has to have red flags around it's program now. Maybe they get back to the NBA. I wonder the percentage of 5 star recruits are playing legit. Just a full ride. I bet it's small. I'm not talking some spending money here and there, there's a really good chance just about everyone is getting something, but a decent pay day for themselves and their families. There's also a really good chance you think the coach sucks at your favorite school if he is trying to recruit cleanly. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I saw yesterday that back-ordered cards will be mailed out Oct 1. Ugh. I ordered Sept 11. They should've been more prepared. I think you still need the card, even with the e-ticketing thing, but I could be wrong. Yes, you need the card. That's where they load the amount of the admission.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) Michael EavesVerified account @michaeleaves A person inside the #Louisville athletic department tells me there's an expectation that Pitino (and likely Jurich) will be fired today. But he had no idea. If the .0000000000001 % chance that he had no idea is true, especially with all the other crap going on in his program, he has to be fired for being clueless. -

You would have to think Calipari is sweating bullets. Their roster has been over the salary cap for years. Pitino has to look like a choirboy next to him. -
Trump, who always makes sure of what is really up before commenting, unlike many others, tweeted about an Iranian missile launch. It turns out the footage of the missile launch was months old. Fake news. Who knew?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) Still haven't recieved my movie pass yet. Emails over the past couple weeks says its backed up. I signed up about 4 weeks ago. I was able to talk my wife into it days after I got mine (she thinks everything is a scam) and she is still waiting for hers, but I did get a $10 credit for a referral so hopefully she gets it in the next week or so when my first month is expiring so it matches up.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) The injuries they are seeing aren't from a lack of rest. Most of the ones now are from a lack of practice time. The players just don't know how to take a hit with the least amount of impact. These aren't soft tissue type injuries. They are most getting impact or non=contact trying to avoid other players type injuries. IMHO That is a big issue. Hampton and OB were b****ing about the Bears and how they had to hit hard in practice, etc. You can't anymore. But, the other problem with Thursday games is the teams have 1 full practice to prepare, and how many players, especially later in the season get held out of practice anyways? It's a money grab that needs to go away.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) Well aware. Curious to the comment about the owners profits. I think teams should have their byes preceding TNF weeks 4-14 or however it works out. If you are going to have any less than the 15 games, the profits will be cut because the number of broadcasts would be cut. If you went to a bye week for a Thursday night between week 4 and 14, there would be teams crying about fairness. It really is an impossibility to make everyone happy. IMO, just bag the game even if it costs each team $14 million a year. Thursday is a ridiculous night to play but they don't want to step on HS football toes on Friday or college football on Saturday, so they risk the health of hundreds of players for an extra pay day.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) TV broadcast deals are a big chunk of the league's $$$, right? there are only 7 bye weeks, so you'd have seven TNF games at most. I guess you can start adding more bye weeks, but teams might complain about having a bye week at either the start of the season (not needed, more wear and less rest later on) or the end of the season (could mess up playoff races). Yes, when teams got their bye week would be a huge issue. I get it for Thanksgiving, but every damn week? These guys need some recovery time. The games aren't going to be of the finest quality. Both the Bears and GB went to OT, and on top of that, GB had the late game, another 3 hours less to recover.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) It's (partially) raising the bottom rate from 10% to 12%. but as we saw from dumping an extra $89 billion into the Pentagon recently without a single person asking "But how will we pay for?!", nobody actually cares about the debt or the deficit except as a cudgel to beat the opposition's policies with. Whatever they do, the richest of the rich will get a nice break, someone who can't afford to be screwed will get screwed, and they will claim they will be paid for by some BS which will only increase the debt, something republicans have said over and over again can't happen, but in true republican style, it can happen if they get the benefit.
-
I just wonder how he is going to pay for these "tremendous" tax cuts he's selling now. Is getting rid of loopholes that lower your tax burden, so you wind up paying the same amount or more of tax really a tax cut? He'll sell it as one, and the idiots with their made in China Trump swag will buy it.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) yep It kind of makes you wonder what would happen if something horrific happened in Chicago. Didn't vote for him, Sanctuary city. Doesn't like the mayor. I guess NYC would be OK aid wise since his home is there even though they voted against him 9-1. They knew the con.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Not disagreeing, but how would the scenario you're suggesting affect the owner's profit margin? Another national broadcast. CBS and NBC pay a combined $450 million a year for it.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) With Trump... you almost hit on the right answer. The voted for him. So why would it hurt to relax some rules and let foreign ships in a little easier to help these people if Trump doesn't want to spend the money for no votes at the end of the day? He's practically treating Puerto Rico as a foreign country anyways.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Except Texas isn't really that white, but OK. They only have the second biggest Hispanic population percentage in the US and about 10 million Hispanic residents. Oh I know, they try to keep them from voting, but they have white people so you have to bite the bullet , and have some electoral votes. f*** em if they can't vote for you. Great policy.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) So Puerto Rico is practically begging for help. The Sec of State in Texas said all they needed were prayers, yet only US ships into Puerto Rico, but waivers for Texas. Gee, I wonder why. Puerto Rico needs to be able to vote and get a bit whiter,
-
Trump seems more interested in Puerto Rico's "massive debt" than saving lives. You would think massive debt would be a merit badge to him since he has so much himself.

Moncada out. Abreu out. Shields on the mound. What are the odds the gamethread gets to page 3.
