2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Da_Goob @ Oct 29, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) On 3rd and 4th and 1 there should have been run plays. Absolutely no reason to pass both times there. Idiocy. I get that, and you are probably right, but when people complain they aren't throwing enough and then complain they are throwing, it sort of rubs me the wrong way. Again, I listened to OB and Hampton after the game. OB crying about you can't win with defense, and said the last time you could was 1963. Then he is complaining you need to throw more. Then they bring up these 2 calls and he's says, who would you throw the ball to? Nobody. Well, if you have 2 chances to complete a 1 yard pass when the opposition thinks you will run and you fail, what makes anyone think that they would have started completing passes had they run for the first down?

That was ugly. Miller has to be done for the year. And they take the TD away.

**2017 Films Thread** (Beware of spoilers)
I used to go to 1 movie a month on average, but have been to 12 since I activated my moviepass a month and a half ago. I don't know if that is good or bad. I have seen 2 movies I really liked, 2 that I thought were at last entertain, and 8 that I considered horrible.

Niko's him or me request seems reasonable. I wouldn't want to play or work with a guy who decked me, and knocked me out of action for a couple of months.

If Trump won't release his taxes, why not his college transcripts? He wanted Obama to release his. Said he wasn't being transparent.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
Chili Davis new Cubs hitting coach, and they have a new 3rd base coach as well. Wasn't it about a week ago they basically said their entire staff would be back?

Our Next Manager?
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) I'm borderline shocked people want to dump Ricky after one season. He did nothing this season that deserves a quick exit and the players quite clearly enjoy playing for him. Dumping him just because would be incredibly unprofessional. I agree. I am not a big Renteria managing fan, but he has done everything asked of him and then some. They play hard. If a bunt attemptcosts you in a meaningful game, then you have a case. The White Sox did pursue Leyland when Bevington was managing. But that was Bevengton. On his worst day, Renteria is not Bevington.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 06:57 AM) Wow. It's really not that hard to do a search for it even if you don't know off the top of your head. Especially since they forgot and apologized last year about them winning a championship. They had a graphic Chicago vs. Cleveland 10 championships to 1 befor the WS. 6 Bulls, 3 Hawks, 1 Bears.....

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/24/politics/fus...aign/index.html Clinton Campaign, DNC paid helped fund (Trump) Dossier Research Meeting with Russians, telling the Russians to hack Hillary's emails...fine. Hiring a British spy to get some goods in Trump...horrible, FYI, fake news CNN mentioned Hillary's campaign was linked to this months ago. This Trump as the victim card you keep playing is really sickening.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) It sure looks to me like the Republican party is basically purging itself of anyone who doesn't wholeheartedly endorse Trumpism in word, thought, and deed. Just voting with them isn't enough. I probably should have clarified I meant current republican politicians. I think most of them have the same thoughts these 3 have, but are afraid of what they may lose if they say. There are obviously a few screwballs that bow to his every word, but the juvenile way he works can't go on. At some point more will break. They have to. It isn't like he is suddenly going to behave like an adult. And if they get their tax cuts, Trump will take full credit like he is the stock market.

McCain who has nothing to lose, Corker who is retiring and Flake who is retiring all bashing Trump. I really wonder if he really has more than 10% actual support in the republican party if honesty actually ever meant anything.

Sox next local TV deal
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) WGN isn't broadcasting games nationally anymore. They are out of the sports business for the superstation. Those games only go locally into the Chicago market. That's why purely local was in my post.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Paul Ryan basically telling everyone to ignore Trump's Twitter. This would be really fun to watch if innocent people weren't going to be collaterally damaged by it all. As soon as the rich get more money they will never spend, guaranteeing the republicans their donations for life, and they appease the middle class with their extra $600 a year to buy a car or remodel their kitchen, Trump's incompetence is going to be attacked from all sides. Meanwhile, bump stock bans? Maybe after tax cuts.

2018 Season Ticket Packages
QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) It is extremely easy to sell the tickets through the sox-ticketmaster process. I have never had a problem selling the tickets, even the morning of a game, especially if you sell them for face value. The season ticket price is slightly discounted so if you sell them for face value you actuality make a little money. I put the back into the account so my cost the next year is even less. Plus the perks are decent. The pre season party at the ChiSox Bar and Grill. The Grinder Bash, and the free game with patio party near the end of the year are nice. Yeah you can buy $6 tickets or $10 after fees from stubhub, but if you are going to go to more than 10 games, the package is the way to go. Access to playoff tickets will be nice when it finally happens again.

Sox next local TV deal
What will be interesting is how many games the White Sox keep on the terrestrial station like WGN. If the Cubs start a network, I would imagine they will have all their games possible on it. The White Sox on WGN might actually work a little bit like the Cubs on WGN worked back in the 70s and 80s. It would be to a lesser extent obviously, and purely local, but with cord cutting, etc, not everyone will have the Cubs channel. White Sox games on free TV could build up the base a little bit.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 09:02 AM) Congrats to WaPo for shaming Trump into fulfilling his promise of sending that gold star family the $25k check. They just received it, and, shockingly, it's dated the day the WaPo story was published. https://twitter.com/KaplanABC11/status/922603452487946241 What a coincidence. His legal counsel was finally able to approve it on the same day the story came out. It's amazing what all these fake news outlets are getting this adminstration to do. Write checks, edit security clearance forms...all over fake news.

Sox next local TV deal
If the Cubs go out alone, it should be announced pretty soon because they will need time to put their channel together. I don't think the Sox situation will change much. They do own part of the station and will apparently get a bigger piece. Paying yourself is a zero sum game. It does seem Rocky and JR are joined at the hip so I don't see the Sox/Bulls/Hawks partnership breaking up.

Off Season Buy Low Candidates
Joc Pederson is another guy. The Sox need LH hitting (hi Lillian). The Dodgers seem to always have too many players but they usually use them. He's about to make some more money. I don't know it the Sox have anything that would interest them that isn't a prospect, but you never know.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) The other part of that quote leads me to believe that despite Bobby punching and injuring Niko the locker room is backing Portis. I'm not buying that. Every player I see asked about it said they were both at fault but the punch crossed the line. I think they are going to support Portis because he is still a teammate and they must to get passed it. But they all know what he did was not right, and I don't think some sort of popularity contest is going on either. I'm sure when Niko comes back, they will be saying how happy they are to have him back as well.

2017-2018 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 23, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) So I'm not saying any of this means Trubisky will suck, but I keep seeing people say he looks good, blah blah blah. He's looked really really bad. He's a rookie, but you can see why the Bears were trying to be patient. The Bears certainly haven't "let him loose" and our receivers stink, etc, but he's been extremely indecisive with the football and taken a lot of "bad sacks". His receivers haven't helped him with some drops (I would have liked to see Cohen pick him up on that throw on the 1st drive of the game), but I don't even know what to think about our offense (other than the fact that despite tons of guys in the box, Howard is a beast). It looks historically inept. Again, not making any hottake on Trubisky but I certainly haven't seen a QB who has shown any ability to read defenses too well (as he has seemed extremely "tentative" out there). Inexperience is definitely showing. I hope we see some serious progress during the second half of the season. Defense was studly. Hampton and OB were ready to call Trubisky a bust, wondering why he hasn't "improved". He doesn't have receivers who can get open, and the line hasn't exactly given him all day to throw, and he needs some experience. Like you wrote, we are seeing why the Bears are being patient and didn't want to throw him to the wolves based on a couple of exhiibtion performances, which, at least one of them wouldn't have been so highly thought of except for some bad defense.
