It might be just the number eminor is complaining about , like is there really a big difference between 98 RBI and 100, or if they made it 30 HR instead of 25, he isn't in the club, but in 2014 11 players hit 25 and 100. In 2015, again Abreu was 1 of 11. In 2016 he was 1 of 20. This year it looks like there may be near 30. It's still pretty, pretty, pretty, good, especially since he was on some awful offensive teams.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Daryl Van SchouwenVerified account @CST_soxvan 17h17 hours ago Jose Abreu rests bruised shin day after getting 100th RBI http://bit.ly/2wQ6kib via @suntimes He was limping pretty badly on Saturday. Wasn't busting it to first. He was really hurting. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Just for the fun of it, I checked out some names. Paulie was a no, Magglio is a yes from 1999-2002 and was one RBI away in 03 from 5 years in a row. Those were great hitters. I wonder if they would have been able to do that if they played on the teams Abreu played on. I think Frank would have walked 250 times a year. Maggs was great, but he didn't have .285 OBP guys in front of him, but he probably was a better hitter than Abreu. Those were different times. I think the 2000 White Sox a a line up that featured 8 guys with .800+ OPS.

There aren't a lot of non HOF players that have hit 25 homers and have driven in 100 four consecutives years anyway. Joe Carter is one off my head I'm pretty sure did it. Has any White Sox other than Frank Thomas done it? I'm guessing no. And while he is older an more experienced in a foreign league, that has to be at least partially offset by being in a new country, with people you don't know. Everything for him was new. It amazes me how some of these guys acclimate pretty quickly. Especially the Cubans who are away from their families.

Also the Bears have 1 full practice before Thursday's game. No way Trubisky starts. I will concede their handling of the entire thing is baffling. Fox really is in a no win situation. They have to win for his job, yet their biggest asset over the offseason was used for a QB they don't want to play, yet, they make him the back up. I do think things can change after this game if Glennon is bad because of the extra practice time, but if they don't want to put Trubisky in on Monday night if Glennon craps the bed again, they have to go to Sanchez .

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) But OBP is more important than SLG. I'd rather have the .322 OBP and .417 SLG than the .305 OBP and .450 SLG. To me, that depends on who it is. If it's a guy who can run like the wind, I'll take the OBP. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Of course not, but we shouldn't pretend that he was a "rookie." I love Jose and what he's done, but trying to drum up "wows" by saying he's ONLY THE THIRD PLAYER EVER in a specific group top do something, when he's only AMONG that group (rookies) because of a technicality, is pretty lame. I read where the Cuban league is A ball or maybe AA. Plus he was adjusting his entire life in a new country without his family. He was only the 3rd player ever. Others have come from other countries, and he's the first to do that. It is a big accomplishment. If its such a technicality how come no other foreign player has done it?

So I had my Echo on and listened to Hampton and OB after the game. I am really starting to believe they want the Bears to lose for the complaining. They have made their beds and now if they win, they are still pissed off. A caller mentioned that he had seen their entire careers and they had played on some real lousy teams, and they just tried to humiliate the guy. Its funny for a while. They definitely are catering to the Superfan type of person. Ditka, sausage, Bears.... But from how they ripped everyone from Fox on down, you would have thought they lost 50-0 yesterday. We all know Cooper made one of the dumbest plays in history, but OB, that isn't Fox's fault. It isn't his position coach's fault. I get it, you think they suck, but it isn't their fault. Yeah, Fox tried to make a laugh out of it a bit at his press conference. What good does having an anuerism over it at that stage do?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) Buying him out now was the right move. He clearly didn't want to be part of a rebuilding team and Bulls front office had to know this was something they'd be dealing with when they decided to move Butler. It was the right move now. The right move a year ago was to ignore him. He played the Bulls when he was a legit star free agent, and he played them for a payday again last year. -
Anyone in St. Louis familiar with the Trump nomination for US Attorney, Jeff Jensen? I grew up with him and he was a really good guy. He comes from a great family. He went to Indiana, graduated with an Accounting degree, tried that for a year or so, didn't like it, became an FBI agent. Did that for about a decade, went to law school at night, and became a prosecutor for a bit before opening his own firm. He father is a retired FBI agent who is a big advocate for the homeless and mentally ill in the Northwest suburbs. I haven't been in contact with him for many years, and don't know Jeff's politics, but I would imagine it is based at least a bit toward the right since he's a Trump nominee. I just wonder if the people in St. Louis know more.

Thursday night games suck. Both the Bears and GB played OT in really hot conditions. Thursday has sloppy written all over it.

So $39 million for 1 year of an over the hill Dwayne Wade. Nice move GarPax. He played you again. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:50 AM) Is Trump going to address the 3.5 million people in Puerto Rico that are without power and clean water or is he just going to give more racist speeches down in Alabama? Since they are unable to participate in the Presidential election, they will be ignored by this idiot.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) Trump is making a huge mistake taking on the NFL and its players. These are some very influential people, especially to younger Americans, who will (hopefully) be voting in 2018 and 2020. If the players stick to what they believe and start communicating that the American people need to speak up and do something about it, things will look pretty grim for the Republican party and Trump. The one thing I can't get past is how Trump and many of his supporters believe that the neo Nazis and white suprematists are better than these football players who are peacefully protesting by kneeling or not participating in the national anthem. I see posts by some of my Facebook friends, and I'm appalled. It's hard for me to believe that people I know actually feel that way. It's very sad and disturbing what is going on in this country. For many, its a black and white issue. I don't think it was just coincidence Trump popped this one off in Alabama. Puerto Rico is disaster area, Health care, tax reform, and Trump wastes his time on this...Trying to divide the country is disrespecting the flag. Fire that son of a b****.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) RBIs are hardly a meaningless stat. Teams win games by scoring more runs than the other team. RBIs are more important to a player like Abreu than a player who is a lead-off hitter. But since Abreu is a guy who typically bats 3rd, 4th, or 5th, RBIs are important since his job is to drive in the guys who have gotten on base. And it's not like the guys hitting in front of him have been on base machines.

Reminds me of Bobby Knight who was once asked if he had a team prayer before games. He said no, he didn't think God cared who won a basketball game.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:05 AM) Wasn't Ichiro about 27 when he entered the league? Should we disregard his accomplishments too? I believe the Japanese league was considered a higher level than the Cuban league. At least now. Maybe back before all the defections, not so much, but when Abreu came over, his projections were all over the place. Some were like Barry Bonds all juiced up, some were he will never be able to hit a decent fastball. All in all, he's been tremendous. I really think if he were more willing to take his walks, he could hit .340, but IMO that has to come naturally or you could really mess him up.

I really thing Trump is jealous of KJU. He did call him a "smart cookie" a few months ago and wanted to meet him. He probably loves how his people bow down to him. Something he wants here.
-
There are a lot of caveats, yes he wasn't the typical rookie, and itmight not be done again with players being stuck in the minors for super 2 and other arb issues to start a season. But if only one or two others have ever done it, It's quite an accomplishment. He's driven in a lot of runs for a very offensively challenged team for 4 years.

Jared Kushner has used private email to communicate with other WH staff, his attorney has confirmed. Lock him up.

Trump said we have a great country, so he must have already made it great again. I wonder if it was OK to kneel last season.

The Steelers will be in the locker room during the National Anthem today.

Steelers wil not participate in the National Anthem today at Soldier Field. They will stay in the locker room.

Abreu has a leg or foot issue. I wonder if once he gets to 100 rbi they shut him down.

Trump disinvites GS Warriors to the White House. He really acts like he is about 5 years old.
