  1. The all time home run record for a MLB season should be broken tonight.
  2. Trump was right. Oh wait, he isn't Paul Manafort. POTUS doesn't have the authority to authorize a FISA warrant. All that work going back and finding posts for nothing. Trump was full of s*** then just like always. He said Obama was a bad guy because he wiretapped his phones.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Just when I was thinking "at least the Trubiskey pick makes the bears potentially interesting at some point this year," you remind me of why I hated it back when it was made. The good news is many of the "experts" who questioned the pick and have seen him practice and play, say he is much better than they thought. I just think the guy should be handled with kid gloves. He is their hope. If something happens and he doesn't work out, this mess is going to continue for a long time. Pace has set this up for it to be Fox's last season. It was going to take a miracle for them to be a playoff team. He didn't spend a whole lot of their cash. He didn't bring in many weapons. Assuming Fox is gone, the next coach is going to get all the gifts. Trubisky more ready, another high draft pick. And he will more likely than not, pick up some offensive weapons in free agency.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) Things change quickly for teams every season. Especially if you have a competent quarterback. The Raiders went from straight up trash to pretty good while letting Derek Carr learn on the way 3-13 7-9 12-4 Carr's first 3 years and the Raiders' record. I would think Trubisky is in a similar spot.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Are the Bears a playoff team next year if Trubisky is ahead of the learning curve? He'll probably be with a new offensive coordinator and a new system.
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) Bears because of injuries are between a rock and a hard place at the QB position, I see both sides of the argument on MT. If there were possible playoff implications, I would say, throw him out there. But anyone thinking that is just kidding themselves. Besides their schedule, teams that start out 0-2 make the playoffs 10% of the time. This roster doesn't inspire confidence it is one of the few who overcome that.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Why subject him to those defenses? Kid has to learn what he is looking at, and neither of those defenses is better than Minnesota, who Trubisky would theoretically face twice. You can't coddle him and try and find a soft landing spot. It isn't there, this is the NFL. So next year there is no learning curve, he is ready to go. It isn't a rush if he is better than Glennon. And he has an offense to work with, he has good tight ends and running backs, but they are being marginalized because defenses are teeing off on a slow quarterback I still don't see the rush. I'm pretty sure this coaching staff knows if they don't win they will be unemployed, and they see these guys a lot more than we do. If they don't think he's ready, but he is, then why are they coaching? Glennon sucks, but Mitch is probably going to suck too if he is always under pressure, and has no receivers who can get open or catch the ball.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) There are a million reasons why Steverson didn't mention it and Abreu did. To overthink how it happened will cause a brain aneurysm. Be glad it was suggested by anyone and move on. Yes. A similar thing happened in 2005 when El Duque had a talk with Jose Contreras. He got him to pitch like he pitched in Cuba, and Contreras became the ace. Who knows what this lighter bat will mean in the long run? Right now it looks promising, but September games against bad teams isn't much different than spring training. I'm hopeful it means more contact, because if it does, it probably is going to be hard to keep the kid off all star teams.
  9. Brad Biggs seems to think Trubisky takes over after the Packers game. Thursday night vs. GB then they play 11 days later. He said there are 3 extra practices, and that could be the best time for him. I just wonder what happens if Trubisky comes in and plays like a guy with the experience he has. Yesterday's game was bad, but IMO, it is going to get worse before it gets better, and he is being set up to struggle. They couldn't count on White. You have to figure someone else would get hurt. I wish they resigned Alshon. I see no reason to let him go. They had plenty of money and he wasn't that expensive.
  10. I think we should be nervous about Beck and Covey. Maybe Coop can fix em.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 17, 2017 -> 07:46 AM) Come on dude. Is .007 in BA that big of a difference? Gregg deserves some credit for coming around on TA. Between 3 and 4 hits.
  12. JD Martinez had a 389 BABIP in his 2014 breakout 4 WAR season. He had a .339 BABIP the next season with a 5 WAR. Avi is unique. Most guys with his exit velocity hit more home runs and don't run as well as he does. I do think he is a guy who isn't going to run well long, but I do think the homers are coming. It's the next step.
  13. The two things no one will argue about are Avi has a ton of ability, and he gives max effort. It doesn't mean it will translate into multiple all star appearances, but it does help.
  14. Trading him is only plausible if another team cooperates and pays up to get him. It doesn't do any good to trade him for someone who it would take a miracle for them to outperform him. There is no need for a salary dump. To me, Hahn would like to sell him high if he could. But kudos to Avi for having a great year. Whether it's "sustainable" is for everyone to argue, but he already has sustained it a lot longer than anyone would have thought. He's still learning. We will see what happens, but in baseball, sometimes things change. Todd Frazier is a walk machine now. Who would have thought that?
  15. Swarzak, Kahnle, and Robertson all will probably have 90 strikeouts this year. Pretty incredible.
  16. There are other factors. If they went for it, they would have added some vets for sure. Avi might not even have been brought back. They might have made the playoffs, they might not have made the playoffs, but the guys everyone, including myself, were absolute on, wouldn't have played much, so you wouldn't have seen Yolmer or Leury or Avi look like actual major leaguers. Davidson still pretty much sucks, but you could have made some money off me saying he would have hit 24 more homers in the major leagues a year ago. Time will tell with their young players. This week they all look great, next week there may be a thread or two about worrying about if they ever amount to anything. The path was chosen, hopefully weeks like this last one become fairly normal.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) Why do you think he'll suddenly hit more HRs? Because he has already started to hit more. He's missed many games. Health is never a guarantee, but if he was healthy for this entire season, 25 homers isn't very crazy. Last homestand they had listed some of his homers on the scoreboard. He has hit 8 up until then that went at least 423 feet. He has enormous power. A slight tweak to his launch angle and who knows what happens. I was reading an article about Justin Turner and his turnaround from nothing to all star. They said he spent a winter with Marlon Byrd. The first thing I thought about after reading that was he was juicing, but it all was about launch angle. Avi hits the ball hard as often as just about anyone. If he ever becomes a flyball hitter, he will be a star.
  18. Avi's BABIP may regress, but I also think he will be hitting more homers. I don't think anyone expects him to hit .333. But if he hits .285-.300 and hits 25-30 homers, he's a lot better than anyone thought coming into this year when people were upset the Sox gave him $3 million and weren't giving Rymer Liriano a shot at playing.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) So with all the cord cutters, why has MLB Network, NFL Network, FS1 and NBCSN all have increases in viewership since 2012? https://www.google.com/amp/amp.awfulannounc...a-playoffs.html A lot more games being shown than before, and available on more systems than before. Either that or Curt Schilling started scaring them away https://www.mediamatters.org/blog/2015/08/2...book-pos/205146
  20. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Naturally the only one without a hit is the DH. I think his back must be bothering him. He has looked lost all year. You would think he would have had a decent streak at least once or twice.
  21. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) Man I hope they do this when I go to the game tomorrow Usually when teams do this, the next game it seems like they barely eek out runs. But they have been on a pretty decent roll with the bats lately. A roll I can't remember for years.
  22. There is always somebody. 0-6 for Saladino.
  23. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) This offense is going to be scary next season and even scarier in 2019 Until recently, the Sox offense has only been scary to White Sox fans this season.
  24. Ron will fix em. That's Abreu and Moncada. Who is next? Fulmer? Collins?
