QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) He is entitled to his own opinion. He just needs to win games. He's already making bad choices. And I really like Lebron. But he's no MJ.

Kinsler has a $12 million option and a $5 million buyout. Good chance he is making $12 million next year. Most contenders are pretty set at 2b. Maybe the Brew Crew. Villar has regressed, but is it permanent.

Someone should pay homage to the XFL and use He Hate Me. Or maybe Brooks should get He Hate Me to throw out a first pitch, decked out in a jersey.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) It is incredibly easy to draw the artificial lines in hindsight. Quitting on Anderson now is a horrible idea. Who is quitting on him? I do think if you went back to the thread on this signing, you would find my opinion is not one of hindsight. It's not a killer by any stretch, but a good deal for him to sign as opposed to others.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Oh well that solves it. The question I have is since Trump sort of threatened NK with nukes, couldn't it work the other way where God has now given authority to take Trump out?

Oh boy, evil doers makes a comeback. I do endorse assassination as the best of bad choices, but hopefully it could come from someone not American: Texas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, one of President Trump’s evangelical advisers who preached the morning of his inauguration, has released a statement saying the president has the moral authority to “take out” North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “When it comes to how we should deal with evildoers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” Jeffress said. “In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un.”

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) Francisco Lindor doesn't count? Hmmm. And the rest is the entire point. If he had played well, he would have been in line for a lot bigger contract. This theory is quite literally the seeds of this rebuild. If the Sox don't offer very early extensions to Sale, Eaton, and Q, we are no where in our rebuild. If we had waited another year for those guys too, it would have been a lot more expensive. Since when has anyone ever put Tim Anderson in Francisco Lindor's area code? That's insane. Lindor turned down an extension after 2 years much better than Anderson's first year. 4.5 WAR in 99 games, then a 6.3 WAR. Do you really think Tim Anderson can be that? And the Sox didn't give the extensions to those players the same time they gave Anderson his. It's pretty obvious they jumped the gun. No team had ever done what the White Sox did. Ever. Maybe it works out in the end. I just think if it is so brilliant, Tim Anderson wouldn't be the record holder. I don't want to kick him while he is down, but there were red flags with him. He does have ability, without a doubt. But not Francisco Lindor ability or baseball acumen.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) The answer is if they waited another year, the extension price could have very well gone up another $10 to $20 million and another year or two of a contract. Realize that Anderson isn't the biggest early extension ever, nor is he the earliest extension ever. He just fits a very specific set of criteria to make his extension sound more extreme than it really was if you aren't looking at the big picture. I'd also be willing to get that Anderson's "record" is eclipsed very quickly with some of the young talent coming into the game and the desire to lock them up cheaply and early. Yes he is the biggest extension that early ever. And the extensions you came up with were nowhere near the $100 million you earlier claimed. A lot would have had to go right for an extension to cost $20 million more than what Anderson signed. He would have had to play a lot better.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Chris Sale - 5 years, $32.5 million Jose Quintana - 5 years, $21 million Adam Eaton - 5 years, $23.5 million All three were more proven and further along than TA is. Where are you getting this $100 million figure? Anderson got the largest extension ever given to someone with less than 1 year service time. So while it isn't cost prohibiitive, the fact is no team had ever done it. They put a lot of faith in TA. Hopefully, they will be rewarded.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) If you wait until the stage where it isn't premature, the cost goes from $25 million to $100 million. No way. Not for where he was service wise. He had less than one year service time. It was the largest extension in baseball history given to someone with less than 1 year service time. He would have 3 years of making barely more than the minimum and 3 arb years where it doesn't get too expensive the first or second year, but they are paying him more for that anyway. Basically, the Sox bought 2 option years at the end for $1 million buyouts. A $12.5 million and $14 million. If he is worth the option years it's a good deal.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) I haven't seen him defensively, so I don't know how well he'd play overall, but I really think he'd be just fine in the majors right now. Almost think of how Miguel Cabrera impacted that 2003 season and that's what I think Eloy would do in the majors right now. Obviously calling him up would be very, very dumb for so many reasons, but he's a monster. I actually saw an article where a scout comped him to Miggy.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) FWIW during his first 100 days, Trump did not take any executive action on the nuclear arsenal. e: it was also Obama who kicked off the modernization process. yet another thing Trump had nothing to do with but is taking credit for. What Trump has done is unprecedented. Just look at the jobs. There were only 7 or 8 times during Obama's tenure (maybe the worst president in history, always playing golf) where there were 6 month stretches of adding more jobs.

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before.... 6:56 AM - Aug 9, 2017 Fake news didn't even mention how Trump has our back and fixed the nuclear arsenal. No one has accomplished more in less time than the genius that is the Donald. Now after we blow up the world, we can blow it up again. Thanks Trump. Threaten everyone with nukes, maybe Germany will finally cut the Trump Organization a check for NATO fees. Tell Mexico to pay for the wall or Cabo is going bye bye. We are so lucky to be living in a nation where he is running things.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 09:59 PM) Everyone's favorite umpire got his butt suspended for calling out Beltre publicly. I don't think he did anything to warrant the suspension. Of course I didn't think Beltre should have been ejected for moving the on deck thing. People need to relax and laugh about some things. I don't know why everything is taken so seriously and offensively. There are plenty of things to take that way, but the littlest things now are made such a big deal of.

If he doesn't plan on ever using them, of all people to taunt, Trump would be the last one on my list, considering his lack of mind and the toys he has to play with.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) All of their rhetoric, their positions, their desire to not be dead. But the one guy calling the shots is a bit unpredictable. He may think nuking the US is a pretty big trophy he wouldn't mind taking with him on his way to meet his maker.

One of Trumps national security advisors is saying Trumps silence on the explosion of a Mosque in Minnesota is appropriate since it very well be a fake hate crime pulled by the left. What an administration.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 11:34 PM) Why would they do that? He's not a huge investment. If he doesn't work out, his contract is not overpaying even for a utility guy I like early extensions, but I thought the TA was a bit premature. There are still a lot of red flags, but he does have talent. We know he is capable of being a better fielder. I'm not giving up that this will ultimately be a bargain, but this year has been horrible obviously both on and off the field.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) The Times has now obtained the final draft of the climate report awaiting approval by the Trump administration We're boned. Science is clearly fake news.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) Didn't we just go through 10-15 years of being told what a terrible policy that is? He's power happy. If you invade, he'll start pressing buttons. He won't care if his country turns into a parking lot. If he isn't in charge, no one should be. If you just wait for something awful to happen, then something awful is going to happen, and you turn his country into a parking lot. I say, save lives. End his. But apparently that isn't an option. I watched a 60 Minutes piece a few months ago and they were speaking with a US commander in South Korea by the border. He said they had a clear shot at him a few days prior but that wasn't the plan.
-
I think the best option is to take him out.

So Trump tweeted a link to a Fox News story about North Korea. It turns out, it was classified, and Fox News got the info from anonymous sources, something Trump has said is means fake news. He can't possibly be that dumb, can he? Looks like his new Twitter policeman needs more training.

One thing to keep in mind was Hostetler did say he would have taken Zack Collins 1-1, and he wasn't exactly known for his defensive prowess, but this will be a whole different set of players. Maybe it's still early but it's too bad there isn't a ARod or Ken Griffey Jr. out there, a no brainer #1.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) When Avi comes back, who goes? I'm guessing Engel. I happened to go on the White Sox website Saturday about an hour before the game, they were showing a live stream of BP. Avi was hitting and really crushed one. All the people talking just went silent watching it. You couldn't see where it went, but it was drilled. Davidson was in his group and he was wincing on every swing. I was surprised he was in the early Sunday line up, and not surprised he was scratched.
