  1. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) Because he's only 26 and has more range than a fence post. The White Sox were .500 when Rollins was let go. The decision didn't cost games.
  2. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) Jimmy Rollins hit .220 last year and would be 37 years old! Who cares what he hit in spring training??!! I am a Saladino fan, but if you are using last year's stats, why was he clearly better?
  3. Rollins hit .353 in the spring with 4 homers. Saladino hit .286 with 5 homers. The Sox were hitting a ridiculous amount of homers in the spring.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 10:54 PM) 119 pitches for Sale. Got get 'em Ventura and Rick Hahn. Play the starters...you get get to .500 and save your jobs. I think I can, I think I can. Sanchez and Leury in the line up. Has been consistently using Beck, Ynoa, and Minaya out the of the bullpen. Albers has made 1 appearance this month. Too bad you can't I think I can your way into actually seeing what is happening.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 07:48 PM) Here is a new one, my HS team puts two players back on punts. The person who wasn't receiving the punt signalled for a fair catch in a trick play. No penalty called on the field, is that right? The Bears did this several years ago. Of course they were called for holding, but other than that, it worked to perfection.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Agreed. We didn't sign Rollins to bench him. Man does that signing annoy me, still. They could have let him walk away and not pay him a dime. He looked like he could still play this spring.
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) He did but Tyler outperformed him. I don't think Tyler is a starting shortstop at the major league level but I don't think it's fair to say he was given a legit shot in spring training, Rollins was definitely the guy they wanted to go with. I disagree. But it really doesn't matter, as he wasn't the SS of the future, and we all know he can play there if he has to, which seems to be the point that was apparently being questioned. It's pretty apparent he can play all the infield positons defensively if he has to, and do it pretty well. I do think they probably should limit his moving around a bit though. If they ever start giving him legit time in the OF, to play a guy at 6 or 7 positions consistently, isn't being fair to him. Let him primarily play a couple and the rest in a pinch.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) Saladino absolutely destroyed the ball in Spring Training. So did Rollins.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) Almost an entire season has been played since Rollins was signed. Things have changed since then. This organization has had nearly an entire baseball season to evaluate the kid, and for him to grow up into the role. And Saladino had a legit shot at the job in spring training. He didn't beat Rollins out. The cards were not stacked against him. Robin loves the guy. He almost made the team a few years ago.
  10. Saladino has played over 400 games at SS for the White Sox in the minor leagues and has made 34 starts at SS this season. I think the team knows what he is capable of doing there, despite not getting 10 or 15 starts at SS last September. For some reason, I don't think those would have been the tell all if you get nothing from his minor league performance and nothing from the time there this year. In fact, Saladino has played more SS on the major league level than 2B.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 16, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) Assuming they carry 7 relievers next year with one being a long man, Burdi being called up second or third week of the season, and a second lefty, who fills out the other 4 spots? I have Jennings, Jones, Petricka and Putnam with Robertson moved. Unless someone in that group has options remaining that can be in the minors for depth purposes because we severly got bit by not having depth. You have to figure they will acquire another lefty they can use a lot. As to the rest, IMO it's a crapshoot. They have some guys like Ynoa, Beck, and Turner, who are potentially pretty good relievers. But will they take the step they need to take? Petricka and Putnam, hopefully they are both healthy and ready to pitch. Jones has been pretty great this year, despite his several naysayers. Robertson is probably trade bait, but if he rediscovers some command, he will be as unhittable as he was his first couple months with the White Sox. To me, it is going to be interesting to see what they think of their guys like Beck and Turner and Ynoa.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Preller suspended 30 games due to not disclosing info on Pomeranz's health That's lame. He is probably going to have a,touch time making trades.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Preller suspended 30 games due to not disclosing info on Pomeranz's health That's lame. He is probably going to have a,touch time making trades.
  14. The funny thing about the Sox trade is EJ is the guy on the DL. If it was on purpose and they hid anything on the players hey traded, the other team should be compensated. Big difference IMO from it just happening, and actually hiding things on purpose. If MLB wants to force him out, the idiot owner of the Pads should beat them to the punch unless he was also involved.
  15. Franconia bunting. Kipnis tried to bunt yesterday. He must be an idiot.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) Kyle Glaser @KyleAGlaser Someone in the know told me this is serious enough A.J. Preller, Mike Dee may be forced out by MLB office. We'll see http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17554327/san-diego-padres-face-discipline-hiding-players-medical-information-mlb-database …://http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...-mlb-database …://http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...-mlb-database … 0 retweets 4 likes If what is being reported is true, that would be the first appropriate action.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 4m4 minutes ago James Shields' seven strikeouts today are the most he's had since the #WhiteSox acquired him from the Padres. He's actually been striking more guys out recently, at least per inning.
  18. Didn't the Sox say Aaron Rowand played a part in the acquisition? Wouldn't he know if Shields was taking advil and doing stuff for his back? There is no doubt some buyer's remorse here, but on the other hand, the Padres apparently not playing straight with everyone, to me, should be a huge penalty. Not unlike the hacking case. Deliberately holding out information for better trades is something that should make heads roll and the team to take a huge hit either player-wise or financially with every team they exchanged players. If it is true someone ordered 2 sets of files, whoever ordered it should be in their finals days employed by a major league team.
  19. As much as I doubt everything being revealed about Shields would have made the White Sox walk away (he is making his 30th start today) , they might as well pursue this either for a total out, or some sort of compensation. I never knew this database existed. It's pretty cool as long as teams are being straight.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) Stiff neck I believe. Wanne would say he's got a neck.....he'll be fine.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) Anyone else a little surprised to see Sanchez at 3B lately? Before when he and Saladino would play, it was Saladino at 3B and Sanchez at 2B. Trying to see if Sanchez can handle the whole infield incase they make a deal in the off-season (Lawrie or Frazier)? I'm sure if Saladino would have been playing primarily 3B, Sanchez would be at 2B. Add the probability that Lawrie is out the balance of the season and Saladino is now the regular 2B, it's no wonder that is why they are doing it this way.
  22. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 07:50 AM) trivia: Saladino stole 33 out of 37 in 2015 combined AAA/Majors. I read last year he was in the top 4 or 5 in baseball being timed from 1st to 2nd. I haven't read anything this year. I think Hamilton, Dyson, and some other minor league type were the only players faster. He's a solid all around player. Not really eye popping. But valuable to have around.
  23. QUOTE (balfanman @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) I still do not understand why they place a scheduled day off the day after opening day. It makes much more sense to me to schedule the first series on 3 straight days and have the day off for both teams on Thursday. That way if any of the 3 games have to be cancelled you can make it up on Thursday. The way they do it only covers bad weather on opening day. It happens fairly often where the day they schedule off is a "playable" day weather wise and one of the other days is messed up. It would increase the chances of getting the first series in and reduce schedule problems later if they simply placed the off day on Thursday. People pay up and Opening Day is usually a sellout or close. Game 2, not so much. It's something done to protect the people who bought tickets specifically for Opening Day.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) 1990 was also the last season in Comiskey Park, which had a lot to do with attendance. Ding, ding, ding. And both the 1990 season and 2000 season, the attendance was still only 9th in the AL.
  25. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) That's the whole problem with your argument, your "if" statement. I will guarantee the Sox have a worse record next year if they trade Sale and start the rebuilding process this offseason. And if you don't think people come out to watch Chris Sale, then why were so many people upset and disappointed when Sale was a late scratch as a result of his suspension for ripping up the throwback jerseys? They should have been just as satisfied to watch Matt Albers start right? I think the Sox even won that game. And I guarantee, just like in 2012 when they got rid of Buehrle, even if they somehow in 1st place most of 2017, if they trade Sale, attendance will drop. It really isn't Sale alone per se, it is what trading him represents.
