  1. Kahnle is nasty when he is throwing strikes. He just rarely throws strikes.
  2. Sweet. The only problem is No Deception Jones is probably unavailable so the Sox could use a few more runs.
  3. I am guessing Shields was angry with himself. If he was angry at Anderson, he had no chance catching that ball if he was around 2B.
  4. Shileds is falling all over the place when he delivers. This is going to get ugly.
  5. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) The Rays Tropicana lease expires in 2027, and the Indians Progressive lease in 2023 Sox expires in 2029 or 2030. One interesting thing about the new agreement is the Sox foregoing the upgrade clause the last 3 years. The state says it saves $25 million which is great. But why would the Sox agree to this? Is it because they figure on a new park hn and upgrades to structures facing the wrecking ball usually don't occur? I don't think the team will move. I do think they think they are done at the current park when the lease expires. Probably a good time for JR or his heirs to sell at that point.
  6. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) The White Sox wouldn't be able to dump Avi's salary on any team in exchange for nothing. He literally has negative value. He's going to be non-tendered in the offseason. An inclusion of Avi in any trade means the Sox have to add more to the deal. The Sox are going to let Avi play and see if any of the work they did with him pays off. I like that they changed his "launch angle". He needs to hit the ball in the air more. Whether it translates into a guy like Nelson Cruz or Jose Bautista who both sucked so bad at the same age, is probably a longshot. But see what he's got. Non tendered seems to be close to a given at this point unless he looks like a changed guy for more than a week or so. He does have games where if you didn't see the entire season, you would have to figure he was a star. He can hit the ball really hard, and seems to bear down a bit late in games. He actually tied for the league lead in walk off hits last year with Josh Donaldson. But once he gets you really excited, he always seems to show you why you kick yourself for being excited.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Unsustainable, really ? I know you don't want to argue but I think some fans don't understand pitch framing which is taking a borderline strike and turning it into a strike. I say this because of comments I always see in game threads when a catcher has to move his glove a long way in a fraction of a second catches it in the strike zone because of the pitcher missing badly on location and then whining about how Navarro is a terrible pitch framer . Those kind of pitches are definitely on the ump. I'd say Navarro was/is not a good pitch framer but in the grand scheme I think it's given a level of importance, by the way its constantly talked about, that is way out of proportion. The amount of strikes called balls with Dioner behind the plate this season was really hard to believe. It's total effect on the performance is probably hard to judge accurately, but there is no doubt the way balls are caught fools umpires each way. Those skilled at it do their pitchers a great service. Those not so good, hurt them. Maybe Navarro was better with the staff in other ways. Maybe he called a game better. Maybe he knew which buttons to push better, but he did cost his guys a lot of strikes. I read another thing on Dioner. He needs one more season for 10 in service time which I guess is a huge milestone for the pension. He picked a bad time to hit at an awful clip. If he doesn't show some sort of bounce back in Toronto, he may be done.
  8. No deception Jones with a nice outing. Lefties teeing off with a .199 average against him during his career.
  9. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) For the record since stats were brought out, Jones has also blown eight saves and been at least partially responsible for five of the 10 losses the Sox have when they took a lead into the 7th inning or later. I think it would be a major mistake for the Sox to think he can close....he's had enough difficult stretches just as the 8th inning guy. If the Sox could get a deeper / better bullpen, I think he'd be fine as a 6th / 7th inning guy...occasionally use him in the 8th inning if you have a big enough lead. Just my opinion. Mark 4 of his blown saves he gave up 0 earned runs. 3 of those 0 runs. One he gave up 1 unearthed. 3 others he gave up 1 run. Hard to expect a 0.00 ERA. Just my opinion
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) I'll make sure to save this because Nate Jones won't last one full season as a closer with the White Sox. OK. You should realize though that I never said make Jones the closer, although I do think he would be fine there. 5th in all of baseball with 25 holds. Oops more facts.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Statistically, Jones Burdi and Jennings are the three best relievers (assuming Robertson's gone). I'm sure SoxTalkers are champing at the bit for Nate Jones to be made closer. How many blown saves does he have? You seem to have left that somewhat important piece out. Well, it probably doesn't matter much because the White Sox have won almost all of his blown saves. Oops, that's Robertson. They've really been terrible in all the games Jones and Albers have blown. Might want to rethink that position. Next thing you'll be arguing that Jennings is the best left handed reliever in baseball despite all evidence to the contrary. Blown saves and save percentage for a set up guy is probably the most ridiculous stat to ever look at and come to a conclusion. The fact is Jones does not get lit up a lot like you claimed. He apparently is pretty deceptive since major league hitters strike out a lot vs. his offerings, and they don't square much up. Wrong again Caulfield. Try another sport. You don't understand anything about this one. And if anything, you are getting more ridiculous by the day.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) To take the bet, any bet pro-Cubs, means I would have to root for the Cubs to win. Something I've never done in my life. Just because I respect/envy the juggernaut they've built doesn't mean I'm sitting in front of the tv screaming whenever Bryant ropes one out of the park. You have no problem praising them here or any other non Chicago team. Why not put your money where your mouth is?
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) I am not so sure that a relief pitcher shouldn't be taken as a 1st round pick anymore, just because of what some GM's are giving up for them. It's insane what the elite relievers command in trade value. Trade a couple high end relievers like the Yanks did and wham you can rebuild your farm. All for guys who play maybe less than 5 % of the total innings played ? The Yankees are very smart for trading Chapman and Miller. I agree. You need to draft guys that ultimately help you win as a player or trade bait. Bullpens just get more important as the years go by. If Burid becomes a really good relief pitcher, it's a lot better than many of the players the Sox have selected even higher the last 25 years.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) They are working the new crop into shape after the injuries. It is still a work in progress though. Sale going 120 pitches really isn't that big of a deal every once in a while. He also had an extra day rest coming in. Before the game Robin said that usually translates into really good stuff, and an ability to go a little longer..
  15. 10 k/9 innings 0.94 WHIP, 42 hits allowed in 58 2/3 innings. Yeah, Nate Jones gets lit up a lot, and it is all due to that hitch in his motion, he just isn't deceptive enough. .197/.251/.319 splits against Nate Jones. Yes a .570 OPS. One pitcher in the AL has face as many hitters as Jones and has a lower BAA. One. He sucks. LOL To save time, I will post Caulfields response OK, fine. Make him the closer. He will probably go 60 for 60 in save opportunities because he is so great. Robin Ventura, Gordon Beckham, Ubaldo Jimenez...
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 27, 2016 -> 08:02 AM) Why are we so concerned about the return here? I'd have happily DFAd Navarro. Worst case scenario would be sending down narvaes I agree. But it's a guy who will show up next spring who we probably never will remember, or maybe he turns into one of those lefties that makes it to the big leagues, has one decent season or stretch and parlays that into a 5 or 6 year career being a gas can for about 8 teams.
  17. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) I said from the one scouting report I read, which is this one: http://www.bluejaysfromaway.com/lansing-le...outing-reports/ Don't really see why the attitude is necessary. If you've seen something different, post it. We're all going on speculation. That "try again" stuff is just childish. http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2016/5/11/11...undown-may-9-10 Here from this year it says his fastball sits low 90s and can tick up to mid. Same type of source as the one you brought up. Of course this guy isn't a real good prospect, it is for one month of a back up catcher having a horrible season, but I have to ask you a couple things. Why were you so concerned he is rule 5 eligible? If he is decent enough a team would take him there, it makes this trade look even better. And the Sox should have plenty of room on their 40. It also appears your Blue Jays source who has never seen him hit 90 may have not seen him pitch anytime recently. Chances are the guy suck and we never here about him again.
  18. The idiots from last night are really smart. https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20160826/br...ield-on-500-bet
  19. Dioner seems like a good guy and good teammate. However, anyone doubting pitch framing needs to check out footage of him behind the plate. More strikes were called balls when he was catching this year than I have ever seen.
  20. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) Doc: I agree with your last statement completely. Excellent summary. At this point it is a long shot they can even post consecutive winning seasons anymore let alone dream about consecutive playoff appearances. Mark Yep. Very doubtful they ever have consecutive winning seasons again.
  21. Yes, there is something really bad there or he wouldn't be in AAA.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) Sounds like at least a moderate rebuild to me. I don't think they trade Sale and Quintana but I bet one of them goes along with Melky, DRob, etc. It's kind of weird. To know with the first or second move seems like he would have to have something almost in place. How can he anticipate the price tag will be met with anyone. He could sign some free agent which would indicate going for it again. There seems to be too much of it's possible we step back, and questioning their current strategy, for their not to be some sort of pullback. Maybe they trade some guys, get some minor and major league players back, and sort of do both. With trading Sale or Q, you probably could do that with the return they would bring.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) I'm confused, was Berlin actually a Sox fan growing up or did he become a token one when became a limited partner? Don't know, but it does suggest Bernstein was making things up again. If the Sox were for sale, I assume he would have some interest, but apparently he doesn't think they will be for sale any time soon.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) I think you have been watching too many blue movies...besides, you are the one who keeps on praising them for attendance/support compared to Sox and Indians' fans. Once again you make things up. I didn't praise anyone. I just stated facts. The Cubs had consecutive seasons of 75, 71, 61 ,66, and 73 wins. During those 5 seasons of what you would call unacceptable embarrassment by any team, they averaged almost 2.9 million fans a season, paying prices White Sox fans would not like. It allows your front office to do things the White Sox cannot. But you already knew that because you have been talking doom and gloom of White Sox finances for several years now. Of course, if it doesn't fit what you currently are complaining about, you forget you ever posted it. But please become a Cubs fan today.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 06:35 AM) That's what happens when you have the #1 farm system in baseball. Fans, even civilians like Andrew Berlin, get super-motivated to jump on board. Meanwhile, the Sox ship is foundering on the rocks because JR was unwilling to sell to someone willing to put 5X as much effort into running things. We hear from JR once a year, if lucky. With Berlin, he's super hands on and gives instantaneous feedback to his customers in South Bend. Some of that would change as a big league owner, but not the vision and commitment. It's also yet another reason Cubs' prospects are excelling while we're seemingly treading water at best. Near-sighted. Jump on the Cubs bangwagon, assuming you are a civilian. I don't think anyone will miss you.
