Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 06:14 AM) I have a friend who knows one of the minority owners son who said Reinsdorf has beginning stages of Alzheimer's. Don't know how much of this true, but when is the last time anyone has seen Jerry in public. The past 1 1/2 all you see are email responses from him. When he got elected to the Basketball HOF a few months ago, he did several interviews included a 30 minute feature on Comcast. Alzheimer's story is BS.

Arod to be released, but play one last game August 12
He isn't playing anymore at least this year.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) So when they are dying their shares are just going to a trust, but there is no active representative of the original partners interest at their meetings. Is that right? The shares go to their heirs, and they do with them what they want. If they sell them JR has the right of first refusal.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Dick - can you elaborate on these: "There was a time before they won the WS where several thought selling and setting up their estates for when they die was the play. After they won, most of them shifted and thought their heirs would love being part of owning a team and all that comes with it." Is this referring to other partners or JR's family? Other partners. Several wanted out. A few are getting way up there in age, but I think the title changed their minds. There was a quote by one in the article I read about it saying the ownership structure of many of the other teams was making it hard to compete and that was 2003 or 2004, then they won it all. They can get out and sell their shares, but it is not nearly what they would get if the team was sold.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
The Sox fired a DJ for playing Whitesnake when Chuck Finley was pitching because Finley's ex-wife was dating or married to David Coverdale. This Cubs guy either is the dumbest person in the world or he knew what he was doing. That tune wouldn't have appropriate for anyone. Maybe he was one of the few that didn't agree with bringing Chapman aboard even after he hit over 100 on the Wrigley gun, and decided to go out in a blaze of glory. There was no way he wasn't going to get fired.

Ventura says he'd return next year if asked
The Cubs actually interviewed Martinez when the hired Renteria. I wonder if Maddon would have replaced Martinez if they had hired him instead.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) In a formal sense, or an informal sense? I mean, are you saying that if JR decides to sell the team, all of the board and minority owners would get no say at all, and it wouldn't come before the board for a vote? Yes. In fact, the White Sox Board of Directors keeps getting smaller. When a board members dies or sells off, they do not get replaced. JR could sell the team tomorrow to anyone and his partners would have no say. All of his partners could want to sell tomorrow and JR can still say no. There was a time before they won the WS where several thought selling and setting up their estates for when they die was the play. After they won, most of them shifted and thought their heirs would love being part of owning a team and all that comes with it. I think his son Michael is the executor. I am thinking if it was his wife, it would be a guaranteed sell. Michael was the one who was quoted it depended on the day whether he would sell or not, making it seem like his call. I do know somebody who knows him, and at least as of a few years ago, despite whatever has been said in the media, Michael would love a crack at his dad's role with the White Sox, and although much would probably be run the same, there would be differences. Maybe that has changed with his Bulls job, but I doubt it.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) How would a decision to sell be handled does JR as the majority partner decide or is there a board process to get a sale approved? It's JR's call 100%. No other shareholder has any rights, and if he died, the executor of his will gets the call. No one else.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) Or maybe it was a vast left wing conspiracy? In which he was involved. It does appear he perhaps doesn't want to be president, and he want Hillary to win, she wasn't always Crooked Hillary to him. But he does have an unmatched ego, there would have to be a point where he just wouldn't continue to be willing to be the buffoon. He right now is appealing to people who could never buy a unit in one of his properties, couldn't afford a night in one of his hotels. Wouldn't buy any of his cologne, have no need to buy one of his ties. Wouldn't golf at one of his clubs. He probably has been so obnoxious, that he has lost potential business in those areas.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) I think one of Trump's greatest transgressions was calling Michael Bloomberg "Little." I can't respect that. "Little" is Marco Rubio. It's like when a rapper rhymes a word with the same word. Just lazy. He doesn't think he should be held to what he holds everyone else. In 2012 he ripped Romney for not releasing his taxes saying not releasing them shows something is wrong. Trump won't release his taxes, so something must be terribly wrong, but if someone said that, they are liars and unfair. He is not unlike a very spoiled 8 year old brat and bully. If he loses the election was rigged. Maybe he's right. He's the one rigging it. I just think what he is doing now is beyond dangerous. The stuff with the "2nd amendment people", there are some sick people just looking for a reason. Saying an election where he is going to get trounced is rigged, just more ammo for extreme US citizen nut jobs. Just look at the video of the old man leaving one of his rallies. Calling the media there traitors, flipping them off, calling himself a patriot. It's a pattern with Trump. It appears to me he has built his entire life upon untruthful boasts etc. now is using the same tactic to become POTUS.

August 14th Game Thread: ChiSox @Miami Marlins
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Chris Sale can forget about the Cy Young. Hasn't won a game since before the All Star break (to be fair thanks in part to his bullpen "friends.") And regarding Sanchez, two outs you are going on the pitch, no excuse for that especially with Miami not holding him close to the bag. Mark Why would he be going on the pitch? He just isn''t fast. The worst thing he could have done is get picked off. The LF made a good throw and that was that. Anything offline a bit and he is safe.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 14, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) Didn't know the plate block rule was altered...so that dropped scoop by Abreu basically blew the game then. Yes it used to be just in the baseline. Now you actually have to affect the runner which it didn't, and he has the rightto catch the ball as well. The Sox got burned before they tweaked it a bit. At one time that was illegal.
-
August 14th Game Thread: ChiSox @Miami Marlins
They changed that rule after a while so it isn't' as ridiculous as it once was. He has to get in the line to catch the ball and Sanchez wasn't there yet anyway. It was the right call.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 09:46 PM) I keep reading and hearing that Abreu is happy that his son is with him in Miami. The son has some type of visa from Cuba. I can't help but wonder, if the son is here in the USA now, why doesn't he just stay here? I don't know if this forum is the place for this but still if somebody can answer this for me I would really like to hear it. I don't think the kids mother is Abreu's wife.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) JR settled for the present site after Addison/Dupage County didn't workout. If he would have accepted the South Loop site that was offered to him at the start of looking for a new stadium by the City of Chicago, The White Sox would have been playing in the South Loop these last 25 years. He rejected the South loop site because he wanted to have the stadium built in Addison on land that he owned. He also left Sarasota Florida where the White Sox had their spring training for many years. He moved them to Arizona and had them playing in a stadium on land that he owned. No, the South Loop site was rejected because no one wanted to pay the $65 million estimated bill for infrastructure around the park, and compensate the park district for losing the Bears. The developers actually wanted the Bears in there also. It wouldn't have been a baseball only stadium. What would have helped the Sox was if parks like Camdn Yards and Petco were build before theirs. The downtown retro look would have been a lock then.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) In the long list of bone-headed decisions made by Reinsdorf over the past 36 years, this one is right there near the top. Except it isn't true. He didn't demand the park be built where it was. Look it up and find out the truth. He settled for the site.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) The audio is here in the 2nd hour: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/audio/the-boers-bernstein-show/ Sounds like nothing concrete but said rich people think they'll be available soon. He basically said: Lots of people think White Sox will be available relatively soon. Back channel talk among wealthy people wanting to buy Sox. Team valued around $1.1 billion now. They speculated that a new stadium in the loop with the skyline in the background pushes it near $2 million. There is zero chance they would get away with building a new stadium in the loop. It's all BS.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (chisoxt @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Maybe Jerry remembers how much his ownership group subtley crapped all over Veeck's regime right after they took ownership...Perhaps he's fearful that Cuban would do the same thing to him.. First off, when Cuban bought the Mavs, the vote to approve his ownership was 29-1. Guess who was the 1? Now, after they see how he runs the show, which would be a lot of spending without a salary cap, the other owners would certainly see how he would only increase their costs, let alone some of the other stuff that goes with his package. As a fan, he would be great, but for other owners, you could see how he would be not so great. Also, if JR really dislikes him, there also is the Comcast Sportsnet issue. If Cuban owned the Bulls, they would be partners. It doesn't seem like JR would like that, plus he probably would want someone he and his son are really familiar with and enjoy working with, as the Bulls and White Sox may be joined at the hip for long after JR is gone. I still think 10 years from now, Michael Reinsdorf is the Chairman of the White Sox.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) You can call the others out all you want. I'm a White Sox fan, and so I'm only interested in talking about what the owner of my team engages his or her behavior in. But by your logic, one could not be criticized for stealing from a store if everyone else in the neighborhood was trying to do the same. No offense, but not sure that makes any sense whatsoever. And you know that. Gee, I don't think anyone noticed.

QUOTE (Username @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) That's not a stereotype. It's a fact that the stadium is in an brutal area for selling tickets. Literally nothing adjacent to the stadium to draw people in. People came for the Cubs games. How did the Bulls and Blackhawks ever sell tickets before they fixed up the West Loop a bit? And what is adjacent to the United Center now? What is adjacent to Soldier Field?

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
If it was true people just want to buy teams as a trophy and don't care about making money, why would the Sox need a new stadium? Why would they need new branding? Wouldn't just jacking the payroll up and spending like crazy in the international market do the trick?
