QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) My boss got Sox season tickets. He is offering me five tickets to which ever game i want to see. Any suggestions? I am thinking the royals in june or the cubs in july. I would avoid the Cubs games. Total amateur nights.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) My jaw hit the floor when I saw that McCutcheon hit more home runs yesterday than the braves had hit all season. If your jaw could hit the floor you would be the greatest competitive eater of all time.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) I know but that was true last year too. The NL has a league ERA half a run higher than the AL right now, when it's usually the opposite. I know it's early but that's still a bit bizarre. Probably because of the amount of really crappy teams.

Congrats to Matt Davidson on his 1,000th career minor league whiff.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) I have quite literally never heard that phrase before. Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 10m10 minutes ago Kevan Smith goes on DL w/ "sacroiliac joint dysfunction." Was reported he had back spasms in warm ups Mon before was set to make MLB debut. That is the SI joint I believe. I had that a few years ago. I had both sides locked up. At first I couldn't stand up. I walked into the chiropractor with my hands on my knees. He made it so I could stand, but there would be times I literally couldn't step forward. Some electric stim and heat and exercises, and a couple of adjustments, he should be good to go, but it will take a little while. I got it from the elliptical machine. Had to stop that. It kills your back.

So Mike Tirico is supposedly going to NBC and Sean McDounough will be the new voice of MNF.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 14s14 seconds ago White Sox place catcher Kevan Smith on the 15-day DL, call up Hector Sanchez from AAA Charlotte. Feel bad for Kevan Smith! Imagine your dream happening and then your back goes out on you That's bad luck.

It appears he usually gives up fewer hits but more homers inside. -
Miguel Gonzalez getting called up, Danks skipped

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) I've also said repeatedly I shouldn't have quoted peripherals like that for one game. But I stick with the basic premise that he didn't get lucky, as you claimed. The entire premise of your point is the peripherals you have admitted you shouldn't have used. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Look I shouldn't have quoted them over the sample size of a game, I was just making the point that to say he got lucky was silly. Danks was hit hard in his last start but they got 2 runs. Grounders found infielders and liners found outfielders. You can give up a lot of hard hits and still not deserve an ERA over 8. Danks got lucky he gave up only 2. If you give up rockets, you are the lucky one if they are hit right at someone. It isn't lucky your shot finds a place to land. Quoting a 3.94 SIERRA after last night's game, isn't a great endorsement for SIERRA. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) Of course it could have been worse. But it also could have been better. For two of the dingers there were men on base from ground ball hits, which are often quite random. As I've said, even line drives can be quite random and find fielders. No matter how many meatballs you're throwing, you're normally not gonna deserve to have over half the balls in play fall for hits. If you or I or any random Soxtalk poster hit the mound, we would get hit hard, not because of luck, but because we sucked. -

So according to FIP,xFIP and SIERRA, the pitches he threw should have resulted in 2.60 runs, 2.68 runs, and 2.33 runs allowed respectively. That's pretty silly. If they want to give him another shot fine, but call a spade a spade. He was awful. And thinking he could pitch like that and not allow 5 runs in 9 innings with just regular "luck" is crazy. Thankfully they won. The bullpen has been brilliant, and its is very likely after being up 5-1 with Stroman cruising, the Blue Jays took their feet off the gas. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I'm fully aware of that, but not when they're under twice his ERA. If he throws like that again he probably doesn't give up 5 runs in 5.1 innings. You think if he throws the exact same pitches to that exact same lineup again, they still produce a .526 BABIP? It's not like everything was smoked either, Fangraphs has it at a 45% hard hit rate and 15% soft hit rate as opposed to his career averages of 30% and 18%. 4 of the 11 hits were groundball hits. The BABIP might be lower because some of those off the wall would go over. -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) If you're using FIP and the like as measurements of a single start, you're doing it wrong. They're models, and models lose accuracy with fewer inputs. He was terrible. He was BABIPed because everything came off the bat at 200 miles an hour. Yes, when people are lining the ball off the wall, that isn't BABIP luck. -

We all get it, your posts are infallible and you never say a bad thing about the sox in fear of it being thrown back in your face like you love to do to everyone else. I am not baiting anything. If anything he was baiting me after he b****ed about the hot head Chris Sale, and I posted numbers showing he was full of s***. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 08:48 AM) You're soooooooo smart DA. Why do you even grace us with your presence on this board? Chris Sale is one of the best pitchers in baseball. What he really "tends" to do is pitch really well. Maybe someday you will see that. But by all means, make up something he tends to do so you can be pessimistic about any game he pitches. Facts suck. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) Gonzalez gave up 13 base runners in 5 1/3 innings. It isn't that he gave up 5 runs, it is that it could have been worse! Eaton doesn't throw the guy out at 3B, that would have been another run. The spin that he wasn't so bad is the "he's not John Danks" argument. The guy was bad. I'm with you, it probably should have been worse. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) This. He has a tendency to start chucking wildly and getting into a lot of trouble. Yes, his career 2.88 ERA, 10.2 strikeouts per 9. 7.4 hits per 9, and the Blue Jays collective .196/.284/.320 split suggest this. They really need to trade him before it's too late. -

Cleveland outdrew us? Attendance down 13% so far
Dick Allen replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 10:26 PM) Maybe some entertainment dollars just became available for the Sox. Sox may be 14-6, but they got outdrawn by Cleveland last week, and attendance is down 13%, so no reason to be happy. Just ask Caulfield. It is nice how little he posts when things are going well. All he had was the attendance card. -
