Chris Coughlan is probably available. He was pretty popular earlier this year. Adam Lind might be able to be had. Both have really sucked, but you have to figure A. lowers their price and B. regression to the mean would suggest they are due to get hot.

The great thing about the Sox need for a hitter is it could be someone who plays any position since the opening is at DH. Depending on who is acquired, you can do a rotation of sorts giving guys a break. It's a heck of a lot better position to be in than having to find a specific position. And they don't need an ace or a #2 or a #3 pitcher. So if their internals don't pan out, there should be some guys to choose from at the deadline for a reasonable price. As long as no one major doesn't get hurt, they are in really good shape to add to the team without sacrificing their top prospects.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 5, 2016 -> 08:38 AM) Was Sarah Spain a reporter before her Craigslist date stunt or was that the way she got her foot in the door of reporting? I don't know if she was a reporter, but she was in the business.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) Now I'm not quite sure if that's "fan shaming" or "fan embarrassing" and what's the positive and encouraging way in the minds of Ewokpelts, etc., to elicit a DIFFERENT reaction from the fan base. Your posts just show how out of touch you are with the fanbase. Game on ESPN should draw huge...What? When I was in university, who writes that? And going to sporting events is a bit different than when Roy Marble was playing in the 80s. You start the thread off with fan shaming. We get outdrawn by Cleveland? Attendance down 13%. That's fan shaming. Then you go to team shaming. You're all over the place. One thing is no surprise. Sox lose. Caulfield's post counts rise. For a guy who doesn't attend games, you sure are concerned about attendance figures. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:05 PM) Rodon better be on a tight leash or out of the game. Of course, since he's currently on the hook for the loss, I'm sure Ventura will at least give him a chance to get through the 7th and see if they can tie or take the lead in the bottom of the inning. Of course. -
The only thing these rents and heroes have done is given the team a 19-8 record. How dreadful. We could be watching low end prospects instead. Much better. They blew it not trading Eaton. The hero isn't as good as his numbers, and doesn't have the arm to play RF. a couple of mediocre prospects would have been such a better alternative but it's a clown show at 35th and Shields.
-
Much like his junior year and what made him available to the Sox, Rodon's slider hasn't really been cooking yet. It's just a matter of time. I think any team would be happy with either one, but I'm glad the Sox got the guy they have.
-
The problem with trying to trade with the Yankees is they aren't going to pull the plug at least until the deadline, and who knows if they would even do it then even if they had little hope. They are going to want something other than financial relief for their players. The Sox need to keep their better prospects and spend some of the LaRoche money to enhance their roster.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) Brewers promoted him to their major league roster. Annoying we lost him for nothing for no real reason, could have been a contender for our 5th starter. If he was the White Sox 5th starter, they would be looking for a 5th starter. He couldn't make the Brewers.

The development of Tim Anderson, hitter
Dick Allen replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Well first... Second, as noted in the article, the power tends to come later. He's never going to be a huge power guy, but he'll knock a few out here and there. Yes, new level and wrist injury could be a very simple explanation for his not hitting for extra bases. It's coming. He might not turn into a great MLB player, but he is going to be able to put up numbers in AAA. -

Didn't Anderson have an injury? -
Saturday will be a huge crowd. Sale bobbleheads. I just got an email from the Sox, they are opening the lots 3 hours prior to the game and the gates 2 hours prior to gametime. So they must be expecting big numbers.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) IIRC the Red Sox(and the Yankees) consistently have some of the longest game times year in year out. Its annoying, it isnt just last night The point is you aren't going to have a line up stacked with high OBP guys who are very selective at the plate and not play long games. I would imagine the Yankees games are a bit shorter this year. You just have to hope it's the team you root for that is causing the game to be long.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) It's not their hitters, it's their unbearable pitchers. The 8th inning, the guy was walking people. The Sox hitters weren't swinging at everything. That slows things up. Plus the replays and the pitching changes. It turns into a long night. The knucker was working pretty quickly considering how many pitches he threw.
-
It's a catch 22. You want your guys to take a lot of pitches and swing at strikes. Work counts etc. but that also slows the game down.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Could you image seven inning games instead? Not this year. That is just when the Sox offense is getting heated up.
-
I think he refused to go to Charlotte because he knows everyone else would get a shot before he would get another one no matter what he did. His best case scenario was a ton of injuries or poor performances or a September call up. Might as well go home, see if another team with perhaps a better opportunity gives you a call, and/or take some time off and prepare for a minor league contract and a spring training invite next year, and if that doesn't come, or you get one and fail, hit the golf course the rest of your life. Is he still only 29?
-
Walk up sales don't happen much anymore. I forgot the number but a few years ago I think in 2012 there was a walk up IIRC under 2k, and they said it was the largest walk up of the season. The days of half priced Mondays and bring a Pepsi can for a half priced ticket are OVA! Most get their tickets in advance, and if you are going to go to 2 or 3 or 4 games at most, why would you choose a game where you could freeze your ass off? Until the good seats from the good weather games are sold, the April/May games are going to not be that well attended for the most part.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 4, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) Yes and that's the kind of trade I support and I have consistently supported. Young player for young player....not for a declining vet or a a rent of a career year. Of course I take the good with the bad. You're still whining about losing Addison Reed, which was same philosophy as the Eaton trade. Myers was a decling veteran who wasn't anything special in Houston. What does Myers have to do with Reed? I didn't like the Myers move because he is a wife beater.

There is a reason the Sox sell a Ballpark Pass giving you access to every weekday game in April and May except for Opening Day for $59. The attendance is going to suck on weekdays for the rest of the month. Who cares? Just keep winning.

Sox attended Lincecum showcase day - Angels expected to sign him
Dick Allen replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Danks had the highest ERA in baseball minimum 500 IP from 2012 until now. Lincecum, despite pitching in SF and the NL, was in the top 5. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 3, 2016 -> 10:32 PM) Bassit is a back of the rotation guy. His absence "hurts" is because we're auditioning a few guys for 5th starter likely worse than he is. (and because we went a long time with Danks and Noesi). But, not he's not great talent. This all in stuff for a "star" is generally a poor and losing approach and the net return for the Sox on those trades is atrocious (and yet the Sox keep making them). Gio was the only really good pitcher. Hudson was really good, but got hurt. The next may be Chris Deveniski (sent packing in yet another poorly conceived Williams trade). And the plus side is of the Shark trade is that we have ceiling on our side. Although the odds are slim, we could hit it big with this draft choice. Speaking of poorly conceived trades, your trading Adam Eaton for prospects because he wasn't as good as his numbers and doesn't have the arm for RF will go down as an all time worst.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 3, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) Bostons catcher is really having trouble catching the knuckleball I don't think there are many that envy his assignment.
