QUOTE (Dunt @ May 13, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Agreed, really want to see more development of the changeup if he's ever going to reach his potential, but he's too young and too good right now to sell on him. Really just spitballing ideas right now. How would people feel about moving Fulmer for an arm? There is the likelihood that you could essentially replace him this coming draft. I think the only prospect that remains untouchable come the deadline has to be Anderson just because there is a great deal of need at SS past this year. I wouldn't trade any top prospect unless they get a guy that is definitely going to help them win and help them beyond this season, and is on a decent deal. The Sox have money to spend. Eventually teams will be looking to dump payroll. Money instead of prospects should be the Sox theme IMO.

GDT 5/13 Sox (23-12) vs. Yanks (14-19) at 6:05 CT
Dick Allen replied to The Sir's topic in 2016 Season in Review
Dan Plesac in the booth this weekend for Steve, correct? It seems Stone gets a weekend off each half. Usually he picks crappy cities for his time off. I guess the day off before and after were the motivation for this one. -
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 13, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) It was pretty amazing, but not necessarily fixed. The Cleveland thing seemed fixed in the "LeBron Interim" years. However, they contract out the auditing and such of the draft, so I don't believe it's actually fixed. The only one I buy as fixed was Ewing to the Knicks.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 13, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) If the Sox were able to swing a trade for Braun + Lucroy, would you trade Rodon+? Rodon has struggled recently but soon, when he gets on a roll, the very thought of him being traded will make you laugh.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 13, 2016 -> 01:35 PM) He has the volume on. He's just not happy about it. So not happy Hawk is talking, and not happy Hawk is away from the booth. Personally, I think Hawk's reduced schedule, which also included him skipping spring training, is making him feel like an outsider. And I think the team off to a nice start makes that even harder. It might be another reason he went to check on Frazier, but he's has done that before with a couple of guys getting hurt. This wasn't a first except for the complaining by those that don't want to listen to him anyway.

QUOTE (shakes @ May 12, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) I'm completely on board with this camp. I thought what he did yesterday just proves how big of a sideshow he has become. His act grew tiresome almost a decade ago and to me has been intolerable for the past 5 years. I'm so happy Jason is on board and am happy to at least listen to the volume during home games. If you didn't have the volume on, how did you know Hawk went to the clubhouse?
-
You would think people who supposedly can't stand Hawk and think the entire organization should be embarrassed by his presence, would be happy he left the broadcast for a little bit to go to the clubhouse.

Sox attended Lincecum showcase day - Angels expected to sign him
Dick Allen replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's possible the story is accurate and the Sox with minimal interest are still in the top 3 interest-wise. Considering how quickly they initially thought he would sign a contract, it seems to me, he's not getting the offers he was expecting. -
I would bet there are exact zero transgendered people that went through all they have to go through just for access to the other bathroom so they can maybe catch a peek or the like. It really is stupid and will only make lawyers rich.
-
Wouldn't people have been "safer" if Dennis Hastert used the women's room ?
-
Worst case scenario they could trade a lower level long shot prospect for Flowers.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 12, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) All of the stars in the past would have been accustomed to being more tactful in keeping their skeletons in the dark. They wouldnt have been out there picking up prostitutes if they knew people had cameras on their cell phones recording them...or maybe they would. The other thing is Michael Jordan isn't hanging at clubs picking up chicks. All the stuff he did was pretty private. If there was no paramedic call to Tiger, all that stuff would probably never have come out. Ray Rice got nailed because he beat his wife at a hotel with a security camera. If he beat her somewhere private, he would have gotten away with a minimal suspension. I do think you are correct with the tact. He was always very protective of his brand.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) Is this the stage where you just start naming names of other people and things? I have no idea what Michael Jordan is up to now, but you seem to think he is still up to stuff. You tell me what he is up to, I don't know. As for the information on him, I think it is very clear that these things are dug into MUCH more deeply today. Two good examples of it have already been given in this thread. There are more out there. 2 examples out of thousands. One was Tiger who was doing this stuff for years before anyone reported it. The other was a wife beater who was arrested and suspended, and wasn't a very good player anymore. I'll give you without TMZ Ray Rice would have played football again. How did Kobe survive and being sort of heroic after what he did? This is a very forgiving society. Especially with stars. Jordan would have been Jordan no matter what, and people would have still looked the other way, especially media as they kind of liked he was good to them.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) That is a complete non sequitur. The absence of something isn't proof of something else. Besides, what is he doing now that TMZ is ignoring? Apparently they aren't digging deep enough. As you said he punched a teammate, he gambled, he cheated on his wife..all stuff we already knew but if all these things were around they would have dug and found much more. That is what you have claimed. So why wouldn't they try to dig up something now? What do you think they would have done to Walter Payton? Do you think the NFL Man of the Year award would be named in his honor?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) That is kind of the point actually. This was all going on in an era where none of this stuff was around, and stories like this faded away pretty quickly. There was no digging, there was no outrage for outrages sake. There was no reverberation and 24 hour rumor mill. There weren't the millions of amatuers fishing for clicks based on whatever they can get them from. Jordan punches two different teammates at two different times (at least) and we find out about it years later, even though the local media all knew when it happened. The gambling stuff happened, and had some cursory reporting, but how many people really dug into it and got details? Who knows what else is out there that we had no idea about. In 2016, what is to say that someone with their phone out doesn't get Jordan on video doing any of this stuff? Maybe they get Jordan on tape using a slur about Krause. Who knows. But that is exactly it. You can hand wave it away all you want, but the reality is it isn't the same environment as having your local media protect you like it was 30 years ago. 2016 Michael Jordan is still around. He's still popular. He's still most likely doing things you would think TMZ and the like would bury him for. Yet nothing. Tell me why.
-
What would TMZ or youtube or twitter uncover about Jordan's gambling, and womanizing and anything about his dad that wasn't already out there?
-
I read what really eats into NFL attendance is fantasy football, which is supposedly also a reason the NFL's popularity vs. other sports. A huge amount of people want to watch multiple games at the same time. It's good for bars.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) If you can't see the difference between the way the media handled him today, and the way social media intensifies a story today, no amount the typical back and forths where you search for one key word to take exception with will change anything. I can't because Michael Jordan is still around making more money than ever. Why isn't he getting destroyed? You seem to blow that off.

Sox attended Lincecum showcase day - Angels expected to sign him
Dick Allen replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) I was told the Sox were not impressed by Lincecum at his showing. Lincecum in the AL at USCF is a bad idea unless he can turn back the clock 5 years. From all accounts, his showcase didn't show he was anywhere near that. I never saw where he was an obvious upgrade to what they have. As long as he's not, I'm glad they agree. I suppose if he was anywhere near as good as the White Sox needed him to be, a team closer to his geographical preference would be throwing some money at him. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Punching multiple teammates and everything to do with his dad would be have been perfect in's to it. But those aren't some secrets nobody knows about. He's already had that thrown at him and it bounced off his back. Do you really think all these star athletes today who aren't getting burned in the press and social media lead lives on the straight and narrow? That they don't do anything remotely near the things in which you think MJ would get destroyed?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) Jordan was also involved in a lot of nasty things that social media would have loved to run with. Since you apparently know of all the nasty things, I'm guessing millions of others did as well. How were you able to find these things out without the social media that is in place today?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 11, 2016 -> 01:41 AM) There would be no way to shadow his father being murdered shortly after all the gambling stuff in 2016. It would be been Armageddon. You act like it was glossed over. There was plenty of media coverage into his gambling, even a book. We all know his father was murdered. We all know he punched Steve Kerr at practice. This social media of today stuff that would have eaten him up is BS. He's still around with today's social media making more money on shoes in a year than he did his entire career playing basketball. Yet where are all the scandalous stories that would destroy him? Players are still cheating on their wives, they are still doing things they shouldn't probably be doing, and aren't getting killed on social media. The fact is, especially with Jordan, he wasn't out in public enough for anything really to get him on twitter or instagram or facebook.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 12, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) I would assume so. Unfortunately the original source of the article only give bottom 5 and top 5 so it's hard to say where the Sox would fit in. KC averaged over a 12 last year. That's impressive. Cubs were at 3.31. A couple of years ago, the Cubs were down by the Sox on this list IIRC. Hopefully the Sox will keep giving people a reason to tune in.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 12, 2016 -> 08:49 AM) And actually while it's a big jump, that 1.3 rating would have been just 27th out of 29 teams last year (Toronto not evaluated) instead of 29 out of 29. Encouraging to see a jump but we have a long ways to go. Wouldn't a 1.3 in Chicago still be more households than better ratings in many other cities?

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ May 12, 2016 -> 08:33 AM) I'm not much into football these days, but my fiancee is. I've taken her to some preseason games in the 200 level the last couple of years. Those are kind of relaxing and fun but I'd like to take her to a regular season game sometime since I'm always taking her to baseball/basketball games. From StubHub, looks like the game gainst Tennessee in late November is by far the most affordable (aside from Christmas Eve). I can get in for under $100, which seems unheard of from what I've seen in the past. Is the 400 level really bad? What if it's within the first 15 rows? Is it worth the upgrade to get into 300? I'd like to stay under $150 if possible. 400 level is fine if you are in between the 20's and in the first couple of rows. There is a trick to Bears tickets. They release pretty nice seats around 5 pm on Fridays before home games. As far as way up on the 400 level, I haven't been up there but my sister was given tickets and said it sort of sucked. Of course she was also in the corner.
