  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) 10 swinging strikeouts, 9 coming on sliders. None called strike 3's. I believe that is proof he is "crisp"
  2. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) 7 Ks he isn't bad.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) Very happy he fell to 3 last year. (Not fell. More like, allowed to be baseball's Jordan). The season before the race to the worst record was the Carlos Rodon sweepstakes, i think at times teams jist out dumb themselves. Houston could have Bryant and Rodon on their roster. BTW Steve Stone, that is an obvious error.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) He's actually doing quite well vs LHP these days. How many lefties have the White Sox faced? How would you feel about his chances vs, David Price?
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) There's almost a Newtonian law on this board whenever you get too belligerent or bellicose (this bullpen is nails! Rodon is crisp) that something bad will happen next. You know, Martinez also struck out the side yesterday in the 2nd when he gave up all those runs. Can't you ever just say you were wrong? BTW. No runs scored.
  6. 4 ks in a row for the not crisp Rodon. I womder what will happen if he ever is crisp.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Tigers lose. 28-27 They go 2-4 vs the A's this season. And KC has the fewest innings out of their starters in the major leagues. Their bullpen is going to be taxed as the season goes on. All the teams in the Central are flawed. The Sox are still in it if they can play anywhere near their potential.
  8. Last game of an 11 game roadtrip seems like it could be ripe for a flat performance. Hopefully they will get a lead and go with it, then beat up Detroit this weekend.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) 7-5 A's. 1 out, bases cleared in the bottom of the 9th. Joba is having a pretty good year. Are the Sox the only team that lit him up?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Yes, but I don't bring that to every single thread. You do. This is really simple. Another team loses a game and you use that as an excuse to bring it in. The White Sox score a run and its an excuse to bring things in. I literally don't even want to comment in "winner threads" because you're just going to troll me every time we win a game. You literally don't go into Sox winner threads because there is actually something positive in them.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Houston ought to have been wondering that about their last 2 drafts already. How is the kid Miami drafted doing? The 100 mph high school righty? He's in A ball as a 19 year old. The ERA isn't great, the WHIP isn't great, he isn't striking out a ton, he's walking about 1 every 2 innings, but he is 19 and he does throw 100, so I wouldn't say he's a bust. Too many things can go wrong IMO with HS pitchers picked that high, especially when you had Rodon sitting there.
  12. Supposedly they worked on his delivery a bit, in an effort to improve his command and control. It looked like it worked vs. Houston. Hopefully it continues tonight. Either way, he's tough to hit. If he isn't walking you and getting behind, he is going to be hard to do much against. If he has cleaned it up and he does have command, Houston and Miami will soon be wondering what they were thinking last draft.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) You realize that by trolling every single thread with this you make the site unreadable right? That's the goal? Every thread must have the exact same discussion? Coming from you? You have been calling for someone's head, anyone's in at least 100 posts. If you were a Tiger "fan" you wouldn't think anyone needs to lose their job?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) Yep, and IIRC, he also said that he highly doubts he's still on the board when the Sox pick Yeah, then he started talking about how every team will say they couldn't believe their pick was on the board. Telling Jay he could be in the big leagues this season could be a way to keep him under slot for later picks. I have wanted the Sox to take Fulmer all along. The mocks are all over the place.
  15. Stone was talking about Jay yesterday hinting he could be a late season bullpen guy at the major league level before starting his journey to become a starter.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) Because they started 17-10. But not anymore. They need to show some accountability. They will have as many losses as the White Sox and check their payroll. How many titles do they have the last 30 years? Illitch has to be a horrible owner.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Chris Rongey ‏@ChrisRongey 27m27 minutes ago Barring a huge comeback, the Tigers will lose their 7th in a row today. They will then have the same amount of losses as the Sox have. How come they haven't fired anybody?
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) So how do those numbers look in Tampa? It's Tampa, and the game started at 8:15. Most were already in bed.
  19. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Bases loaded double play after review in Houston is all you need to see. That ball gets by Abreu 2 runs score and John Danks does not pitch his first complete game shutout since the Bush administration. Bush wasn't President in 2010.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) In the exact same manner you did. Not really. First off, we really don't know if Thibs gave Van Gundy info and told him to run with it. Secondly, even if he did, it would have been in response to leaked info that we all heard. The beginning of the slam Thibs campaign.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) If that is the standard, there is a lot of truth in what Jerry said too. But it also ignores the fact that the guys he is sticking with were, at the very least, doing the same thing. They should have just let it go. Maybe something good comes out of this and GarPax will be more scrutinized by the press. I am no fan of Cowley, and he probably just ruined his career as a Bulls beatwriter, but he did have the nerve to ask the Mayor how he could trust GarPax after what they did to VDN and Thibs.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) the problem is, this is nothing but rumors, about Van Gundy. so unless there is proof and not speculation, the bulls should have done it classy. how ever in a month, it would be over. I do agree. They should have taken the high road regardless. Hopefully, Hoiberg can become the Mayor of Chicago.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) The press release was all about Van Gundy, and their belief that Thibs put him up to it. If it wasn't for that, I firmly believe the press release would have been as vanilla as all of the rest of them have been. That very well may be true, and maybe Thibs did put him up to it. But it would seem that would be Van Gundy going rogue. One thing we do know, there was a lot of truth in what Van Gundy said. A lot more truth than what was coming out of Gar's mouth the day they let Thibs go.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) Yes there was a basketball reason. I posted about the problem with Thibs for years on this board. This wasnt "a few months ago", years ago I said that Thibs was a taskmaster coach and coaches like that rarely win the entire thing. Here are the posts: Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:19 PM I like Thibs, but I sometimes wonder if hes more Doug Collins than Phil Jackson. post Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:58 PM Doug Collins may have won 1, but I dont know if he would have won 6. Thats the point, task master coaches wear on guys and while they often can get more out of less to begin with, they can also eventually wear on people and that sometimes results in getting less out of more. And my statement was "sometimes I wonder" not exactly extremely critical. ----------------------------------- The bottom line is not once in Thibs career did he overachieve in the playoffs. Blame injuries, blame whatever, but after 5 years of underachieving when it counted, something had to give. The Cleveland series was a repeat of the first Bulls-Heat series. Bulls win game 1, the other team makes adjustments, the Bulls dont. Phil Jackson rode his players hard, and they practiced very hard. If Thibs is Collins and Hoiberg is Phil, now all we need is Michael and Scottie. Yes, he's a little more Zen-like, a lot more unconventional. Taj Gibson, one guy they are trying to pin all his injuries on Thibs, loved him. Rose loved him. I read something where Phil used to pick on Horace Grant on purpose because he was very popular with his teammates and they would rally around him. Horace hated it, but apparently it worked. There was no need for the JR press release. There was no need for GarPax to say anything more than they appreciate what Thibs did, it was time to move on. To me there are 2 factors. Obviously both sides hated each other. The second factor is, they can't beat LeBron. They won't be able to really shake up their core for a year or 2, so Hoiberg is their way to try something else. There is no need to leak the offense was horrible, because it wasn't. There was no need to leak the players wanted Thibs out. Cowley got a player BEFORE that came out and the player said GarPax spent the exit interview slamming Thibs. It will be interesting to see how Hoiberg transistions to the NBA. I do know one thing, if this is basically the roster, they won't beat Cleveland next year either.
