  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) So, I heard this rumor that Fred Hoiberg is going to be the next head coach of the Bulls. Seems like unsubstantiated BS to me. Can't be. GarPax were just going to be compiling a list and beginning an exhaustive search only a few days ago. With interviews, etc. it will be months before the Bulls have anything to announce.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) I wonder if Hamilton knows the Pabst brothers? What a strange story. I still don't understand just leaving the guy there and going to bed, although I am not holding Danks responsible.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) Well I don't agree with throwing an individual under the bus I don't really mind if KW says the play of the team has been "embarrassing". I'd prefer if he just declined interviews but I don't have any beef with him calling it as he sees it. The play has been embarrassing a times. As to SouthSider2k's point about how the entire lineup other than Avi is underperforming -- hey, goes back to my argument -- broom the coaching staff because you can't fire 12 position players. The problem with that is, you didn't solve the problem. Milwaukee and Miami fired their managers. That probably satisfied some meatheads in their area, but the results remain the same. Firing the coaching staff does not address the problem, and KW thankfully said that and understands that. I agree with him that the players will start playing closer to their norms, which should mean many will do a lot better than usual for a while to get there. And if it doesn't work, they will change some players.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) let him show, what you said a pulse, by the performance of the team, during the course of a game. not giving lip service. btw, i stay as far away of bringing in RV into this conversation, b/c i was pointing out kw and the fo. You brought Robin into this thread: just to come out and give, what i consider a fair waring to the players in a sense, is laying all the blame on their shoulders. how bout some, so - so calls that the manager did, which added to this season so far. where is RV accountability in this mess. no one is going to tell me, none of this is not RV fault and he is blameless. after reading this, he is completely blaming the players. how bout not fully addressing the holes on this team, yeah i forgot, it is the players fault.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) while you make a good point, i feel as management should not throw the players under the bus. b/c it might not be the whole problem. i just think they should have taken the high road or better yet, don't say anything. Yet, Robin, and he is management by definition, would be considered doing a better job if he constantly threw players under the bus. Robin says nothing publicly, does all his critiquing behind the clubhouse door, and gets ripped for it. Even though it's been out there for years, it's ignored. He doesn't have a pulse, the players walk all over him. So if he gets into someone's face, then it will be why did he throw someone under a bus?
  6. I was watching Sportstalk Live yesterday and Goff was one of the guests. He seemed to back off of the Butler/Rose "feud" a bit, referring to it as "real or perceived".
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) the point is, why make any announcement. was this suppose to be a supportive msg, was this suppose to be "don't loose faith" msg... why make this announcement. There is no announcement. It was an interview. He basically said the exact same things a couple of weeks ago. I really don't understand why this is a big deal at all. He can't point fingers at the players, which is EXACTLY WHAT SO MANY PEOPLE WANT ROBIN TO DO IN THE DUGOUT, and that is wrong. Everything they do or say will be considered wrong because when it comes to running a team the vast majority of fans are not very good at it. Thibs gets fired and boy did he deserve it. They practice hard, they play 32 minutes a night, he is going to kill them. Robin should be fired. Look at what they did. It is obvious they didn't practice hard enough in spring training. KW is holding the players accountable. I am no big fan of KW. It wouldn't bother me if he took his act to Toronto. But here, I agree. They players haven't played up to the levels they previously played. That's on them.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) No front office will ever say, "yeah, this team sucks" on April 1, or even June 1. If you are looking for that, you will never see it. Even last year the Cubs had Theo in front of camera's talking about competing. JR said it once, and was roasted for it. Anyone who thinks this team (3 games back) can catch Cleveland is crazy.
  9. What seems like a great idea, sometimes doesn't work out that way. If the Sox signed Panda, the 3rd base problem would be considered solved. Last year, Gillaspie had a better OPS, but that had to be an outlier. Gillaspie hasn't been good offensively, but look: Gillaspie OPS .682 Panda OPS .688 You would think Panda would get better, but, many here are saying the White Sox hitters are what they are, so why wouldn't that apply to all teams? Panda is a better fielding $100 million Conor Gillaspie.
  10. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 07:20 AM) Maybe KW had more to his message. By saying this team should compete for the playoffs, he could be laying the groundwork for changes. If the team fails, then changes would have to happen. At thst point Hahn can say despite the players not living up to expectations, we are forced to replace the manager. Maybe the FO decided they need to start dropping hints that a change is coming so the RV separation is less of a media circus than the Bulls are facing. If that were the case, I doubt he would have said if this group doesn't work out the mix of players will have to be changed, not the staff.
  11. Buster posted Giancarlo Stanton has 41 plate appearances where the last pitch was on the lower outside third of the strike zone. In those appearances he is 0-41 with 24 ks.
  12. This was from March and was discussed then. KW said he enjoys having the final say Hahn does the day to day stuff KW used to do, now KW still has veto power. Rick Hahn was still a genius this winter for all the moves when this came out. It wasn't until the Sox lost games when KW's fingerprints were all over the moves and the Sox were deemed doomed for years. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0321-story.html
  13. KW had a very similar imterview a few weeks ago.
  14. Get paid more and win the East with LeBron. Get paid less and bow out in round 2 with DRose, if healthy. Pretty easy answer for Love.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) I assume then he's stating that he and rick will resign at the end of the season if the players can't get it done since they did such a poor job of choosing those players right? Otherwise he's throwing others under the bus to protect himself. Wow.
  16. The Robin haters will be unhappy. KW said if these players can't get it done, they need to change the mix of players not staff.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) southsider2k5 i really don't have no education in advance stats. so i will give way to both of yous. however i really don't necessary agree. btw, he played 26 games at 2nd last yr. how was his defensive metrics ??? just asking. His UZR/150 would be interpreted as.............awful. Small sample size though.
  18. Semien played a little bit of second with the Sox, and wasn't very good. He isn't a good defender. Maybe some day, but there is a reason the Sox wanted him to work in the OF a bit, and it wasn't because he was a standout defensive infielder.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) Doesn't this mean that the Brewers have significantly improved? They are 10-16. That's still not good. Looks like the losing isn't on the manager. You can think the .280 winning pct. would have continued with the old manager, but you would more than likely be wrong.
  20. The Brewers and Marlins had a combined .365 winning percentage when they fired their managers. Their new managers have a combined .359 winning percentage.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) Terrence Gore .242/.349/.276 - in the minor leagues Plus some of the guys he passed on with the high picks. He could have a rotation right now that featured Baumgarner, Sale, Wacha and Jose Fernandez. With Mike Trout patrolling CF.
  22. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ May 26, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) Jerry Manual was the Grim Reaper in charge of corpseball. He was the meddler. People hated how he always switched up the line up. Now they complain if the line up isn't switch up all the time.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Then we should subtract the 2008 White Sox playoff appearance because we got lucky that Hahn's son chose heads over tails? You didn't answer the question, of course. Should Luhnow and Theo Epstein both be fired because of the record of the Astros and Cubs for the last five seasons prior to this one? The fact of the matter is that the last time the Royals had a playoff appearance was 29 years prior to that...the White Sox had a "playoff caliber" (and Top 10-12 MLB payroll) team as recently as 2012, and then proceeded to one of the worst two-year performance records in team history to follow that up. Yet in the middle of that stretch you just brought up, the team president of the Royals gave Moore a contract extension. Is JR about to give one to Rick Hahn and we just don't know about it? Sal Perez, Yordano Ventura and K.Herrera, FA Latin American signings (Rene Francisco, came over from Braves) Jarrod Dyson, 50th round Danny Duffy, 3rd round Greg Holland, 10th round Terrance Gore, 20th round Fun with numbers John Danks ERA 4.81 Danny Duffy ERA 5.87 Jerrod Dyson .219/.254/.297 awesome And of course in his 8 full seasons as a GM his teams have finished ahead of the White Sox , a team led by buffoons, twice.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Then we should subtract the 2008 White Sox playoff appearance because we got lucky that Hahn's son chose heads over tails? Yet in the middle of that stretch you just brought up, the team president of the Royals gave Moore a contract extension. Is JR about to give one to Rick Hahn and we just don't know about it? I didn't answer the question because no question was asked. Sigh. And it isn't my place to say if Theo should be fired, but I would bet if the Cubs lost 90 + 6 years in a row, there would be plenty of calls for his head. And if Hahn or KW lost 90 games plus 6 years in a row, you would be calling for their head. And regarding 2008, last I checked, KW hasn't written a book about how to judge players based off his success that season. But if Dayton Moore can have 6 90+ losing seasons in a row but is still a baseball genius in your mind, maybe you should cool it on all your posts about every White Sox employee needing to be replaced. Look at some of the players he passed on with these high picks. If it was KW doing it or the White Sox, you would be complaining like crazy. Since it is KC, he is doing everything right.
  25. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) It's a bad sign. Run differential is generally the best indicator of future performance and it tends to correct itself as the season plays out. Not too worried. Their run differential is a little out of whack from that 5 game disaster of a road trip where they were -29. The 1990 White Sox were +7. If the players start hitting and pitching like they are supposed to, this is a good team.
