2013-14 off season player movement thread
Harry Chappas replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) I hate that the Giants won 2 World Series titles because it makes people think that Sabean isn't the worst GM in the game when he clearly still takes the cake Aaron Rowand says piss off -
White Sox 11th most valuable franchise, $960 million

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) 5th post in the thread. I was wondering what took so long for this post to happen, though I had a feeling it would be a different poster. So I will explain, total franchise value does not equal spending.....oh forget it. Jerry is a cheap ass mutherf***er who should sell the team to someone with deep pockets let's say hypothetically to a group that owns something like Ameritrade. They can leverage the s*** of the organization and then spend millions on players and infrastructure with the annual cash-flow that comes into the team from the ticket sales and tv money. Yes selling the team would be the answer. When $75M annually is used to pay down the debt used to pay for the team, the cash cow moves out to pasture to hang with Ronny Woo Woo rather quickly under the guise of "rebuilding" and the genius that is Theodore Epstein and his merry band of baseball savants. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) He tried to keep it the same as much as possible, even keeping the same verbage in the calls. This was one of the things that was talked about a lot in the preseason. Yes which everyone (me included) thought was good thing but in hindsight may not have been a good thing after all.

I think Jay is part of the reason the stats on the offensive line look bad. I think he has a slow release and takes too much time to make decisions and while he has good footwork he does not necessarily move well in the pocket to avoid pressure. Football more than any other sport is coaching. Coaching can improve a team greatly. I don't know why Trestman's trajectory is what it is but he seems early on like a Mike McCarthy type that has a system that breeds offensive success. I laos think many people give guys credit because they are working in teh NFL and they may not necessarily be that good (i.e Schiano). Lovie lost his job because he could not figure out how to get someone that could run an offense. He also focused on defense only and the offense blew. His death blow was probably the input he had on Shea McClellan, that reeks of a bad Lovie player evaluation (see Jaron Gilbert). I think a draft and offseason with a defensive slant and things will look better. Also as I pointed out earlier football is all about coaching and Mel Tucker trying to change to the Bears scheme may not have been a good idea after all.

defenses can be built in one offseason if the coordinator is worth anything. See the New orleans saints

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Wasn't that Andrew McCarthy? White Palace was true acting. Having to ride that skeleton that is Susan Sarandon. Spader was great in Less Than Zero and Pretty in Pink

The life expectency of white collar v blue collar as well as quality of life while working is what makes college different.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox

Pittsburgh fans skullf***ed Johnny Cueto and thus cost Dusty his job. -
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) I wish I could find the article about the family that made like 350K a year but didn’t "feel rich" because after they paid their pool boy, their cleaning lady, made the payments on their Mercedes, paid for their kids private schools and put money into their retirement accounts, they just didn’t have much money left over. :eyeroll: Living in an urban area with bad public schools, 3 kids under age of 12 Mortgage payment (includes taxes and insurance) $2,000 Utilities/Monthly Fixed bills $1,000 (family cell phone plan with 1 GB data plan, HBO Direct TV package, car/life insurance etc.) Food $1,000 (not cutting coupons using discount stores) Non-Consumable spending (kids sports, clothing, misc entertainment) $500 Private School (not high school) $900 1 car payment (2 cars in home, new car every 5 years) $350 You can't get rich here but it makes for a comfortable life on a day to day basis on $70K net pay. Also limits your annual vacations to one very vanilla trip.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) 200? 5 days a week X 50 weeks a year (assuming 2 weeks of vacation) = 250 days. Annual wages / 2080 (52 weeks x 8 hours a day) 50,000/ 2,080 = $24/hour before taxes

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Boston Red Sox

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 08:02 PM) I always thought White Sox fans loved the Cardinals due to our hatred of the Cubs. I know I do. Go Cards although I like Peavy so I like Boston a little. -
Based on where you live if you get married with no debt a family of of five can live rather comfortably on about $100K a year.

Hire Bobby V. Theo's search just got a tad bit tougher.

The stat to see if anyone has time, How many NFL teams won a playoff game v how many teams have won a playoff series in this decade. Getting to the playoffs can still be kind of fluky.

With Abreu Signing; Konerko Not Out
Harry Chappas replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Toss Dunn out in left-field. There is also a chance to trade Dunn and eat salary if it means Konerko coming back. I really do not care either way but there is the White Sox loyalty. -
I love the analysis, "He does not hit #1 and #2 pitchers very." Very few hitters hit #1 and #2 pitchers very well, most good numbers come from hitting the #3-#5 starters. Perfect example of this is Alphonso Soriano.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) They can do that anyway though. He's not getting a $13 million qualifying offer so he's not going to bring them a draft pick or anything. They could lock him up before hitting free agency though if he is healthy. Nice consolation prize for them in all of this.
-
Crain seems like a guy if healthy that the Rays would go after to sign in the offseason which could have been part of their interest.
-
Lackey is matching him almost pitch-for-pitch and I think the tigers at home are a more feared line-up than the Red Sox. BTW my kids like the afternoon games as they cannot stay up until 11:00 to watch the "evening games"

The chicago cubs have the most loyal fans in all of sports and I do not think there is a close second. When they were going good it was good for all of baseball as they draw incredibly well on the road.

Becasue she brought the sledgehammer in the night before it could be premeditated and therefore eligible for the death penalty. Does Illinois still have the death penalty?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Red Sawx. Anyone but Detroit. Peavy and then theo doesn't look like the almighty wonderboy.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) Finished Hell on Wheels. I can't believe I called that pregnancy back in the 1st episode or whenever it happened. I was watching it with my dad and said "Oh great, I suppose she's pregnant now?" and then a couple months later.....haha. Really hope what happened to Elam isn't true though. I thought Common has done a real solid job on the show. I agree on Elam and that is just a dumb way for him to go. My wife pointed out that it would be a good way for him to get into the compound and then go from there.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) If Theo has any brains at all, he will back up the truck for Price. I don't care what is said about their system right now, odds are astronomical that any of those prospects even ends up close to Price's stratosphere. Tampa will some some sort of pitching in return as that is their M.O. I suppose there is always Travis Wood

QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) I know you're kidding but what about Kershaw, Scherzer, Grienke, Ryu.... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/10/tige...his-winter.html Wow he is 29 and a free agent after 2014. Iwas thinking three more years and that he was around 27. Makes the AL Central a tad easier in 2015
