QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) I like this trade alot for the Cubs. I think Theo is doing the right thing as far as rebuilding goes, tear the whole damn thing down and build it back up. What has he done? He is paying Chris Volstad $18M. He let all of the free agents walk. He traded for a guy that hit lower than Adam Dunn, granted in a small sample size that may be blocked by another prospect. If he is going to rebuild, move the almighty Marmol and leave Cashner to close which is what SD is going to do with him. They traded a decent prospect for a below average 3B that struggles to hit in Coors sans one year. He traded a very good set up man for a potential #5 starter and a smaller Ryan Theriot. I actually think KW has done a better job at rebuilding than Theo has which I know on this site is blasphemy. The cubs could be epically bad this year if they move Garza.

Should the Sox consider Dunn for Soriano?
Harry Chappas replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I love how the media thinks paying Chris Volstad $18M is a good move. Soriano is what he is. He was grossly overpaid. He is now older and even more grossly overpaid. He has some talent and it is what is was last year and will be going forward. A streaky hitter that is average but paid to be a superstar. -
Arrington and Short were linebackers. What position did jerry coach......

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 08:31 AM) Hoyer sounds a lot like Hahn. He does the leg work. Hoyer was going to be fired by San Diego. Hoyer is the Linus Security Blanket. If Theo fails the first guy to go, the GM of course Hoyer.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
Harry Chappas replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Reasons why this could easily be mistaken and thus bogus, all hypothetical I recall and some things can be hazy for me, that there was a nice story that I read on Soxtalk a few weeks back about the Floyd's helping out a church member. I do not recall the specifics and I am lazy and am not certain how to copy things to look back but I thought it gave some pretty specific details on the Floyd's personal life (i.e. home town, names, church they attend). It also could be bogus as AA and KW have made three trades and the Sox picked up a scout from Tor so there is a good amount of communication between the two. KW probably talked about every scenario of every player in the Sox organization in that time, Gavin I am certain was one player they discussed. In these myriad of discussions something about Floyd leaked out and just now has filtered down to someone. Maybe a scrap of paper or some Christmas banter. Who know but it made for an interesting day. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) Do you guys wonder about the dynamic that is going on here? Are they planning things this way? Or do they keep going back to one another because they are the most-willing partners? I'd give credit to Kenny for approaching these deals one by one...when you move guys all at once or in larger deals you tend to get less back for them. I just hope it isn't Kenny that keeps going back to Alex because his alternatives are not working out... I think there was a backroom deal for Frasor going back there. If you remember when Jackson was traded there was a chance the Sox could make the playoffs. If you get three prospects for Teahan and Jackson all hell would break lose. I think the Sox have done very well in the three deals. -
Got my kids XBOX 360 Live with Kinnect for Christmas. My wife told me they were video chatting with their cousin on this...is that possible?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) I would love to see Rios have a great year in 2012, just to see the same people calling for a trade of him at all costs then want to keep him because he's a proven producer and winner. The minute he could be moved with the Sox paying no more than half his salary, he will be gone. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) Actually posted about Floyd for Deck+ yesterday. Was a big fan of his in the 2010 draft. He's not some super sexy high ceiling starter, but he's got a workhorse body and 3 useful pitches. He's a middle of the rotation type and a pretty safe bet to stick. I like my toolsy high upside prospects, but a system also needs safer high floor picks like Deck to balance it out. I hope something gets done. So the Sox would trade Floyd for what they hope will be Floyd.....I understand the rebuild aspect but I think they need to improve upon the organization. They should have already gotten the back end rotation guys with the moves they made in the last 7 months. -

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 11:41 AM) I'd like to see the Sox trade Dunn, Rios and Peavy this off season.. If we have to pay these guys anyway, why not trade them and eat their salary and at the same time bring in more prospects into this organzation. The cubs just did that and got nothing in return and that was for a player that is at worst a #4 starter. You are not getting anything for Rios, Dunn or Peavy. If you pay their salary and they produce you look like a bigger f***ing moron then when you signed or traded them. The White Sox have to hope the guys they get can produce and the guys they have can improve. -

Call it what you want but the fat has been trimmed any deals now need to viewed at as wins. With B or better rated prospects coming back. -
This issue with Z is that his stuff has dropped off. A very good move by the Marlins low risk/ high reward. He could be an ace but all they him to be is a 4 or 5. The cubs could be epically bad this year. It shows what a loser Dempster is.

We will hear the press talk about how volstad and wood make for a solid foundation for a staff.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) I know how badly the Bears need a #1, but not the biggest fan of him. Seems to be close to TO/Moss diva level, without as much talent. Takes plays/games off too. Still would be a gigantic upgrade though. Lovie seems to be good at getting guys to play for him. -
Wow is that circus going to fun to watch poor Mark.

Can't we all just enjoy the news that Jerry Angelo is gone and former Bear Jim Harbaugh is having a nice season as the 49ers head coach saving face from the old 85 team that has been cast by Singletary and Leslie Frazier's attempts at coaching. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) Lovie may be an idiot when it comes to some in-game decisions, but he always has us prepared. I don't know what he does to prepare the Bears, but rarely do they come out just unready or unwilling to play like most teams do at least 3-4 times a year. I see what you are saying but haven't the Packers scored on their first positions the last 5 times the teams played? Also the Packers beat the Bears four times in calendar year 2011. Again though, I see your point and agree with it. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 05:56 PM) Great Winter Classic. Would love to see Hawks/Canucks in Soldier Field, but it looks like Wings/Bruins in Ann Arbor is gaining steam. Too many uncertaines and timeline issues to play at soldier field

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 28, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Ozzie's position on things change day to day. He's a motormouth who says whatever he wants. Some of you IMO think he has some patterned agenda. He's just a talkaholic. I find that refreshing. I want somebody whose position does not change running my team. I also want a manager with an agenda. Talkaholics are for stay at home moms and morning television not running baseball teams.

I can't wait to see my first Epstein jersey or better yet the two guys with Epstein and Hoyer jerseys sitting next to one another. I am just curious what number they put on it.
