QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 05:19 PM) jonmorosi Jon Morosi #BlueJays release Mark Teahen I think the Sox bring him back if they liked the way he went about his business. -
2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
Harry Chappas replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It would be nice if both guys bought into the history of Cuban success and signed for a discount. Send Minnie, Alexi and Dayan down there and have them watch 2005 footage of the Bronze Titan ending with the cigar on the bus showered with the praise of Americans -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) Good news for the Bears & Devin Hester. He interviewed for the Dolphins head job, think he's one of the top special teams guys in the league. Rumor was other teams were going to make him the highest paid special teams coach in football. I think that had to happen without a doubt. -
I started watching SOA toward the end of season two. I just watched season 1 on DVD, the show was much better then. A good amount of stuff makes more sense now. I like that they actually had jobs while now they are all just smugglers, gun runners and soldiers. TBBT is a pretty good show. It is kind of like Modern Family where some times it is on and some times it is off but for the most part it is 30 minutes of pretty good humor that holds my attention. The cast is good and nothing seems forced.

Baseball America's Top 10 White Sox Prospects
Harry Chappas replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) After reading Rogers' article, it seems like the Chicago media is sick of the Sox like many of the fans. My guess is most people believe Kenny has jumped the shark and like me, think the wrong guy won the war between KW and Ozzie. Sox are going to have to prove a lot on the field and in acquiring good players in the next 2-3 years. I would think only the true die-hard fans would buy tickets to see the Dunn/Rios White Sox. Agreeing with Phil Rogers is not a good thing. -
Why not move Felix unless they are going to ink him to a long term deal? I would think Felix would net more and is under less team control.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) In other words, there's no chance. But Theo, Hoyer, etc, have been consistent in saying they want to rebuild this thing from the ground-up. They're not looking at '12 or '13 as years in which they can legitimately contend. Which they are forced to do because the cubs are cash strapped and need to find find money to pay down debt and improve the stadium. The $30M in debt isn't going away and the cost to improve the stadium needs to be generated from the once great cash cow that was the cubs. They are not the Bears they will see empty seats galore as the prices of he seats are to sustain a $120M payroll only now the payroll will not be $120M. My personal feeling is that the cubs can not afford a $110M payroll. I think the theo love affair will not last the three years it will take. I will take an 80 win team with an outside shot over a 60 win team that may be good in 4 years. I do not see any future for the cubs as I think theo had a great support system in Boston that he does not have here. This is the same reason I think Cashman never leaves New York.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 07:41 AM) Yes, this guy was a Mets top prospect OF who busted. He was more highly regarded than Milledge, and for about 2 years people were dying to get their hands on some of these Mets prospects like Pelfrey, Milledge, or Martinez. The risks of rebuilding. Look at he Twins trade for Santana as compared to what they passed up. They passed on Jon Lester and Phil Hughes for Phil Humber and Carlos Gomez. They are a good organization that failed on this trade which is why rebuilding is not as great as people make it out to be. Suck for two years and then ride off into the sunset as a dynasty. -

Raye would be a really nice move for them, Ross as well. -
Are Bob and Len playing their annual gig at the HOB tonight? cub marketing has removed castro from their 2012 campaign. The recognizable face of the cubs right now is ryan dempster and that is about it unless wood comes back. They could be two of the biggest losers in baseball. Seeing what MB got in free agency is there any doubt dempster would have gotten a comparable deal? Once a lovable loser always a lovable loser. On CSN last night they were touting how all of the cub moves have now created a glut of starting pitching which will be the cubs strength this year.

IMO Ruskell has the job the firing was a Phillips CYA same with the presser a couple of years ago when he stated everyone's job was on the line. The Bears FO is a mess with Phillips at the helm. Ole George McCasky... meet the new boss same as the old boss. Would be nice to have a football guy running the show instead of Teddy Bear and George. -
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:43 PM) Garza is good as gone. Hard to believe they would sign him for "insurance." But I wonder why he would pick the Cubs over Pirates, probably for the money is my guess. Gammons on MLBN Hot Stove said the Tigers would not part with either of those players for Gio and more cost certainty thus he can not see the Tigers giving them up for garza. The Tigers project Turner in their opening day rotation. cub convention this weekend.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) No, he will say he has no desire to support an organization that kicked out his favorite manager of all-time, one who will undoubtedly go on to win at least 2-3 more World Series titles in the NL. He is going to Fishfest..I am not talking about the musical troupe Phish either

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) That is what it screamed to me. You know they have operating surplus if needed. They are working to a budget and this frees up even more cash for this offseason and this year. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 01:15 PM) You really think so? Last year would have and this year could. The cubs have a chance of being epically bad if they trade Garza. At some point the fans will want to see some entertainment value from their team.
-
The whole problem with this off season is Theo is god and as such every move he makes is a win regardless of the actuality of the move. Everyone thinks the prospects he is getting are going to take them to the 2014 world series and every draft will yield at least one all-star. I believe that magic will wear off once they are 5-12 the fans will realize the product is not worth it. Can someone give me some of the great rebuilding projects in the history of baseball? I am still waiting on the Orioles wave of young pitching from a couple of years back. Everyone thinks the cubs cash cow will not stop or even slow down.....ok

Teahen designated for assignment
Harry Chappas replied to rowand's rowdies's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) The Sox would assume his contract if they claimed him. He isn't coming back unless they figure out a way to get Toronto to pick up his whole deal. If that were going to happen, it would have been within the context of one of the deals that happened already. Why can't he become a UFA after he clears waivers. He was designated for assignment in order to offer him his unconditional release. Teams can claim him and take on the salary or the jays can release which sounds like that will happen. -
I watched all four seasons of Mad Men over the holidays. Pretty good show and having worked in a small advertising firm dedicated to tabacco it is spot on. One man can make or break the entire operation with bulls***.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 07:59 AM) Ugh. They missed the trip of Seabs on the PP, instead seeing the retaliation. They missed the goal taken out of the net, instead calling it a PS, and they missed too many men on the ice right before the game winner. I thought the cross check on the tying goal was brutal. The Hawks did look pretty soft though last night as well, maybe Carcillo is missed more than we think.

Refs did no favors tonight and hawks stars did nothing after sharp got hurt hossa and Kane watched the wings win, literally from five feet away

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 06:30 PM) Rizzo is young, so reading into his stats too much is dumb. Yes, he played well in the PCL, but it's the PCL. His AA numbers were OK, but he was 20. Verdict on this trade won't be known for a few years. I think the padres front office is better than the cubs thus I think I like this trade for them. I base this soley on the fact they built the d'backs in the manner thy are trying to build SD while Theo had an organization of success behind him. I am already sick of every move a being a huge win because Theo made it while every kW move is mindless.
