  1. Is this story going to have a bigger impact than the Jerry Sundusky story.....the impact to the world of sports could be mind blowing. That amount of narcotics is sickening and almost sounds comical.
  2. The Astros can't be overly excited about moving to that division now.... The Mariners oughta move Felix unless they think they have a shot and overpay for Prince. My guess is Prince is not signed until mid-January.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Would you rather rely on Freese, Craig, and Jay, or Beckham, Rios, and Dunn to be key offensive producers. That Holliday deal in particular now looks awful. I assume the Cardinals realized that he was going to be gone as they were not going to pay him over $22M a year for 10 years. That lineup is still pretty good and the rotation is solid. Oh and they have $20M to spend.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) There is nothing out there which will come even close to replacing that level of production. Fielder is still out there.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Blessing in disguise for the Cardinals. They dodged a long-term bullet, in my opinion. as did the White Sox yesterday.
  6. Terry Doyle will throw 7 innings and hold the Sox to 1 run at least once in his career.
  7. wow..is about all I can say to that Marmol and Garza do not get you Adrian
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) This is infuriating. When will KW be fired. Mark picks Oz. What a joke of an organization. And where was Jerry to intervene in this one?? And express Paulie-like love for Mark? Cheapass owner. you really are delusional
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Buehrle to Marlins likely means Pujols to Cards, Wilson to Angels and Fielder to Cubs I thought Fielder to M's.
  10. My gripe on Santo is that Wrigley is a homer friendly park. If Williams, Santo and Banks were the HOF players that they are how was that team that bad.....oh and they had a pitcher from that team go to the HOF as well
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) Pretty much spot on. The entire season was a sham. It honestly might as well not have happened. The show refuses to sway from the status quo. Everything that occurred this season could have happened in one scene, something like a shootout with a rival gang leaves the three meaningless members of the club dead and Clay in the hospital, so Jax takes over. There, I did as much in 15 seconds as this show did all season. It kind of depends on how it plays out next season. I believe it only was to run for 5 seasons. It will be interesting to see how Clay is handled. Opie did not come back last night did he? He could be the wrench in the plans next year.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) I retire from SOA. Still worth watching somewhat, hopefully the Oakland drama brings it down to earth next season.
  13. cowley on WSCR was saying that if Florida gets Pulojs the cubs may eat all of Zambrano's salary to get Gabby Sanchez He went on to tell us that Big Z to Ozzie will most likely happen with cubs eating most of the salary........ What are the cubs going to run out there every 5th day. Eating contracts work but you still need to field a team.
  14. QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) Ventura says Dunn will get more playing time in the field (its all over Twitter), including time in the OF. Again, another example of blatant disregard of advanced metrics, something we saw with Ozzie too (remember 75 pitch Peavy). Advanced statistics have a place in this game weather u were brought up with them or not, they are not just for mid twenties baseball bloggers. If you ignore them you will wind up playing a guy whose is -127.3 career defensive WAR player, the same guy who posted a staggering -37.3 def WAR season in 2010 for the Nats. Dude also owns a career -167 defensive runs above replacement figure (according to Baseball Info Solutions). Can some non archaic baseball thinker (of the media) please ask Robin if he is aware of things like this, even cares to look, and why he would play such an established poor defender in the field more. This isnt rocket science. Because they owe him good money and if his offensive WAR is more productive then his negative defensive WAR because he can not DH, you have to live with it.
  15. With his history in Texas I do not see him doing well there. I understand a portion of his history there is the fact he had to face a Texas lineup that is really good. I just think he will get worn down rather easily down there.
  16. Ole Nestor seems to have come on in the last year ala Dan Hudson. It appears in the post steroid era that guys that can throw strikes are worth more now than in the past. I think guys may be reporting on him based on older information as well.
  17. If Santos is dealing regardless of the Sox situation in 2012, let's say he is at 3.1 ERA and converts 18 of 20 saves by July 1st. A team in need will overpay at he deadline for bullpen help...see Capps, Matt Something doesn't smell right here as Santos was cheap and his value was only going up. Why move him in a diluted market when they did not have to. It just seems odd. I think Nestor is a piece in a bigger trade. I see how he fits what Toronto is doing but now seems odd.
  18. The problem with a youth movement is Peavy, Dunn and Rios are going nowhere so the payroll is not dropping as much as the attendance will. I have no issue with a youth movement but what are they going to do with those 3?
  19. I love this move. If his team still thinks it will contend, Sale will be the closer. If this team does not think it will contend, Sale will be the starter. I do not believe anything KW ever says.....EVER I would not be shocked to see Nestor dealt with Quentin in a bigger deal. Santos was a nice story but he was by no means elite...Sale was much more impressive than him.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) When you get this excited over a hiring of a special assistant, it just means our off-season has been really boring. The cubs would have had a two day prelude to the presser to announce this.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) Or it just means the Cubs are "in" on basically everyone on the market, which has been true since well before the CBA changes. Yep that is a PR move as they will most likely lose Ramirez and Pena in the next couple of weeks. You do not take offers on Garza and then sign one of those players.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) How convenient. Two non kill shots. Where were the bullet proof vests it would be really stupid if he did not have one on unless he actually wanted to die. I am ready to move from these story line of SOA being bigger than they actually are but again I guess the writers are realizing there is a limited scope of interesting stuff.
  23. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) oh... you have too much faith in meatball nation. For the record: i would welcome Orton back as the temp starter until Cutler is back. While not great, he's better than Haine. I think this season has ended that argument in meatball nation they are now back into the Bears are cheap because they will not give Forte Chris Johnson money. I think this move would be huge as it does give them security if Hanie fails
  24. Peavy has a NTC and I believe he wants nothing to do with the east coast.
