MLB Opening Day 2012 Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) What was that team thinking this offseason? I don't see them competing with the Yankees/Tampa this year. Toronto may jump over them. Weird way how that whole thing is going.

Did anyone other than me get somewhat offended by the back cover of the Sun-Times today? It kind of makes Chicago fans look like simpletons.

Oh hai, Mark Buehrle
The marketing of MLB is as bad as you can get.

Entire Town up for Aucton Tomorrow
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 08:11 AM) Too bad I didn't win the lottery. Too bad my house is underwater. That sounds like a good deal. 1,000 customers....that sounds like a profitable business.

New Park or Not Same Marlins
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) So what part of the first highlight is supposed to be hard? Sounds pretty damn easy to me Ozzie. Plus, isn't it Ozzie that makes the f***ing lineups? lol Man do I not miss that BS. Imagine the ranting and crying at the team this year when that asshat would be asked about last year.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) I bet Nike could pay enough for that to not be true. They could pay enough to change the Yankee uniforms, you think they would get a good return on that investment?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) Maybe they can get Nossek to come back? Joey Cora could not hold Joe Nossek's jock. Gotta love cave coming back.

New Park or Not Same Marlins
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) Right. It's also normal for the Marlins to draw 10K a game. The park will change that in the very short-term, but there's no reason to believe anything will change in the long-term. Can the latino community in south Florida afford the price of a baseball game?

Nate Jones makes team as 12th pitcher
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) Looks like Jesse Jackson will be holding protests at Sox games now.... I don't see why it matters really. KW still has a job becasue JR does not want black players and KW can keep Jesse at bay.

2012 Cubs thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) They were never going to not put Volstad in the rotation and look like they gave up Zambrano for nothing. The minion wanted Zambrano gone at any cost. Volstad doing nothing is irrelevant as the minion are happy Z is gone. Marshall was given away it appears for nothing. There is no way to spin that the Marshall deal was not a complete failure. So you would trade Nestor Molina for Travis Wood? I wonder how long the free ride will last with Theo.

I like this team.
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) Without crazy expectations, this team will be just fine to watch. yep. I actually think they may do just fine.

Cowley made Ohman sound like a douche during a SCORE interview last week. I think Ohman may have taken a shot at ole Joe in the past after reading that.

2011-2012 NHL Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) I know they can, I just meant that in a "holy s***" type of response. That is why guys like carcillo come in handy. He retaliates against Sedin and sits 7 games, no problem.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) Apparently it's really bloody and the UK made them edit out content to get a similar rating there. This morning they said most of the killing was presumed as they are trying to hit every demographic with it. Going tomorrow to see it.

Reinsdorf key player blocking Moorad's ownership
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) Yeah, JR is almost like a co-commissioner at this point with Uncle Bud. I know he was big in who got to, or who didn't get to, buy the Cubs. Kind of not on topic, I really appreciate what JR has done for the White Sox and the Bulls, but with the line of new, fresh owners lining up to buy ball clubs, I'm thinking it's about time for JR to sell it. I know due to circumstances Sox won't get an astronomical price like LAD and such, but with a favorable stadium deal and 1/4 of a network, I'm sure they would attract a decent bid. JR does not own the Sox. JR has won more championships than any owner not named Jerry Busse in professional sports. JR has won more combined games as an owner than any other current owner in professional sports. ( I made that one up.)

2012-2013 NFL Thread
Forte was offered a contract s the last two years that would have paid him $7M already and had $15M guaranteed. He passed it up. The Bears have shown a history of extending players at a fair price which Forte has been offered time and again. John Danks signed the long term deal, Matt Forte did not. Forte is not worth $20M guaranteed.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 22, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) Def. Bears have such great depth now at QB and RB which is great to see. Hopefully now we can get a couple of bargain FAs of guys looking to prove themselves (like Okoye lat year). The Bush signing gives the Bears much more leverage with Forte negotiations. Another nice thing about Bush is that he is a great blocker and receiver. Could really have some inventive 2-running back sets with Bush/Forte. Emery doing a great job thus far. Not overspending on guys and making some shrewd moves. And to think, he is known as a better drafter... Cliff Stein strikes again. Emery and Stein seem to have a good thing going as they are getting the guys that Angelo would not get.
