  1. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) I heard this as well. From what I could get from it, he was saying that Theo had a ton of help as far as people around him and how much money he could spend and that he's not as smart as everyone thinks he is. The Lajoe (sp?) remarks were quite telling If cub fans were hearing this they really should be a tad bit alarmed if Theo is not given a big checkbook and buddies to help him out......actually the big checkbook may just kill the cubs again Maybe Hoyer will stay in SD long enough to trade for Soriano
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) So...Reagan's nemesis from the Middle East...gone. W's nemesis from the Middle East...gone. Clinton have a leftover Middle Eastern nemesis that the Obama administration can remove? Clinton, go even the score for JFK!!!!!!!!
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Probably because the Cubs are throwing $3 million or more a year at him. They're probably essentially signing their President/GM combo to 4 years and $30-$35 million. Why would the Padres let him leave that is my question/ In Jed's case what does it say about him that he wants to be second fiddle again? I understand he is most likely getting more money and I guess that will serve its purpose for him.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) So when does Bud Selig cancel the 2014 regular season? No team is gonna have a chance in hell to compete with the Cubs & Royals, so might as well just have them play for the title right away. This made Andrew Friedman chuckle.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Because they were friends? It's not like they got him traded to the Cubs then both went there....It was clear that Hoyer had guys he liked from the Sox system and Theo took advantage of that. to me it does not pass the smell test Why Hoyer would leave to become theo's lackey says a-lot about him to me....why would the Padres let him leave is a bigger question.
  6. The Jed Hoyer thing is interesting. Look I hate the cubs as much as anyone but how does baseball not look into this more? This is blatant tampering. The Gonzalez trade to Boston looks really fishy here to me. Does San Diego just want to get out of whatever is owed to Hoyer? I ma not certain these moves will do anything but there are certainly enough teams looking to rid themselves of too much stuff here.
  7. If anyone was listening to the SCORE last night at 5:30, there was a guest on that went off on Theo. The call dropped from a bad cell but this was not a caller it was a national guy and he was ripping Theo to shreds. It sounded like a Sox fan. B&B were almost speechless.
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) Kids are not cheap. You would think that even the dumbest excuse of a human would learn that after the first one or three. If the government is supporting you for having them they appear to be. yes they get a s*** life but mama gets a nice check each month to "support" them
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) ESherman_Crains Ed Sherman by PWSullivan Cubs, Cardinals: St. Louis is going to its third World Series since Cubs won last playoff game in 2003. Cardinals have won 16 pennants that is amazing.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) The GM never talked to the manager. I do not know how to embed video but the link below kind of refutes the spy concept....at least until July 1st.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) Because he never talked to the manager. why should he? If he knew guillen had checked out on this season, like guillen said he did, why would Cooper want to deal with the quitter who quit on his team ala sammy sosa
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 08:46 AM) He wouldn't. Hoyer is GM Theo is President You can say Hoyer is making a lateral move for more money I would assume but do you think he has any say and is really getting any power. Theo is running the team. President of baseball operations does what exactly, if the GM is making all of the personnel decisions. The A Gon trade then looks really, really bad now for SD. Josh Byrnes is in the equation as well with Hoyer. Personally I think Hoyer is let go but nobody will bring up that trade. Maybe teams will give Theo all-stars to rebuild the cubs.
  13. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) 200 posts and I have yet to figure out WHY KW would need a spy in the clubhouse. That is what I really want to know as well yet that point never gets mentioned.
  14. Good organizations continue to welcome minds that can help the organization. Ted Williams was a dick but he was always welcome to Red Sox camp not as a manger but as a guy that knew baseball and share his philosophy of hitting. Thome has been through it all. The Yankees always welcome their former players into camp. Hell Ventura was brought to camp just to share his ideas and work with guys. Thome need no be named the hitting coach but having him around does not hurt. Same as Thomas, Fisk, McDowell, Dotson, Thigpen etc. While Bobby Thigpen may not be able to teach a great cutter the fact he may be able to talk to Santos about the trails and tribulations of being a closer can not hurt.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Eh money fixes all. If he got a raise and extension, I guarantee you things would be fine until the next time. Boston offered both just not as long or enough money. If Boston is not rewarded for letting Theo go, they can patch it up by matching the cubs offer.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) The story is that Guillen and at least some coaches did not trust Cooper. I kind of get that but trust him with what exactly? What role did Cooper have in anything they did. He worked and prepared pitchers. They are all paid to do their jobs....did Cooper get wind of the conspiracy to throw games ala Shoeless Joe...... Cox is a replaceable body like Baines was. Walker was responsible for hitting and we saw how that worked. guillen and cora were paid to win and get the most out of the team....that did not happen either. I still am not certain what ratting and snitching could be happening in a MLB clubhouse that Don Cooper would know about. My whole summation of this ordeal is that in the middle of the season Cooper asked for a contract extension and KW knew he a coach he could not afford to lose and he extended him. He actually had leverage. The remainign clown car cast down in that dugout had no leg to stand on. Was Cooper supposed to go down with that ship? Cooper wanted to stay in Chicago and he is. He owed nothing to that coaching staff which made his life hell with their overall ineptness (Cora & Walker) and unprofessional approach (guillen). Kudos Mr. Copper. Now do what you do so well, 'fix em' Also I love that the Sox employ Ron Oester. I love 1980's baseball.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Cowley's reports are one-sided, but KW and Jerry won't talk to him, so hey, he gets to fire away with one side of the story. I can't believe people aren't a bit concerned about Coop after it was alleged he was a rat and snitch. Who's gonna want to pitch for him if that's true? What did he rat and snitch on exactly?
  18. The teacher should work in player development, this seems to be Laker. At the MLB level is more about preparation and approach.
  19. Theo and the Red Sox can easily patch things up if need be...just like last time he quit.
  20. he can be activated to replace dunn when dunn retires in june I am not entirely joking
  21. The only poker I play is five card draw, jacks or better to open, trips to win I think hold'em is just a different version of black jack IMHO
  22. Spies....really guillen lost his job because he could not win games and then forced the organization's hand and left when they put the onus to win on him and Williams for another year Cooper actually is good at his job. That is why he is still here. Spy, b****, call it whatever you'd like. again COOPER IS GOOD AT HIS JOB!!!! The rest of that clown car dugout was not.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) $7M? I thought he was making more like $3M? Exactly. Boston has all of the leverage here. The cubs leaked the story back when Hendry was fired. Boston just pushed it in the current direction. The cubs are offering him a 5 year deal. The Red Sox are offering him a 3 year extension or a 4 year deal. This guy quit Boston for two months this is nothing different.
  24. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Oct 15, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) Sorry, I just have to say it... I am absolutely thrilled for Edwin Jackson. Kenny treated him like crap for his entire stay in Chicago - told him to stay at the hotel back in the summer of 2010 because he so sure he was moving on to DC for Dunn. Then, Kenny couldn't wait to unload him during this past season as Edwin was a constant reminder of how he got played yet again - this time by Mike Rizzo. Kenny's no doubt figuring that if Dunn had shown even a glimpse of what was to come, he would have been apprehensive about offering Dunn a long-term deal. Now, Edwin gets a chance to pitch the Cardinals to the World Series - the perfect cosmic retribution. And we have the never-even-coached-little-league Robin Ventura managing MLB's version of the SS Titanic. Well done, Kenny Williams, well done indeed! Did I miss a an Edwin Jackson start some where? I liked getting him and hated moving him but the NLCS games showed why he is moved so often.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) What did he say? I never stay for the 3 stars or interview after the game. Touting Carcillo and the the enthusiasm some good rah rah pandering crap.
