QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) He's not proven he's a #1 - maybe a #2, but I think he needs to show more. He's not even the best pitcher on his own team right now. I don't dispute he has performed quite well since virtually the day we traded him, but let's not make him into an ace quite yet. He's pitching to a 3.6 ERA in the year of the pitcher in the National League in a division in which there are zero competent offenses. The Dodgers, Giants and Padres are not good offenses?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) Absolutely. But you've got to balance your immediate needs with your long-term goals as well. You've got 20-25% of your payroll tied up in Rios and Dunn over the next few years. Getting nothing out of them in the future is going to handcuff this team every bit as much as it has this year. You've got to try and mitigate the damage by getting them back on track, so that you don't compound the $20 million you've wasted this year into $80 million over the term of their contracts. The best way to do that was to try to get them consistent PA's in the lowest-leverage situations possible, with the hopes that they can turn things around and get back on track. I agree that Dayan should have been brought up earlier, but from appearances, it was Ozzie that was blocking that move, not Kenny. Ozzie also could have been batting Dunn and Rios lower in the order rather than in critical spots like 4th and 5th, in order to minimize the damage to our scoring opportunities. He did not. They are not getting better this year. Write them off and see what happens for the rest of the season. Start fresh with them in the spring. Enough is enough they are not just underachieving they are epically bad and there is no hyperbole there. I like that McNeil and Spiegel got a hold of cowley B&B and the morning guys seem to like him and egg him on. The SCORE was getting pretty chummy there with cowley or a while. The guy really wants to be jay jr. The funny thing is the mariotti was gone before guillen yet it is mariotti's replacement that is going to get guillen canned.

Hahn Dave Martinez Tim Laker Don Cooper It really is not that hard is it?

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) At this point I think both need to go. I don't trust Ozzie to keep his personal gripes separate from his managing and I don't trust Kenny to select another manager or develop a farm system, or trade for players that don't suck. We should probably clean house, or let Hahn take over and hire his own manager. What if Ozzie is a Hahn guy?

Why can't guillen just worry about baseball and remembering that rios sucks. That is all he needs to do. guillen continues to look like the little pain in the ass cousin that nobody pays attention too so he sets the cat on fire. Instead of watching Venezuelan news and Mexican soap operas maybe figure out that alex rios can not even comprehend how many outs there are in the top of 9th Bump KW up replace him with Hahn and let ozzie and his ego go This is ditka all over again.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Ouch. Ass clown? Is that hyperbole with just a blanket statement like that and no other comments about why you feel this way in relation to what Scoscia (sp) said?? I happen to think Oz is funny as hell. If somehow the Sox get hot in September ... man is it gonna be embarrassing when they show him the door at the end of the season. If you were in Chicago today and listened to the radio you would know why Guillen should be fired. He proclaimed that he is the face of the franchise. What a f***ing egotistical moron and slap in the face to Mark and Paul. Any good pub by maybe getting back in this race is erased by this moron and his sidekick scribe joe.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) I'm in love with your posts tonight. You're so right about the liner by Kotsay getting him another year with the Sox. Hawk was talking about turning points of a season the other night. A friend and mine were discussing the same. What was the situation when Uribe broke up the double play and it was a huge media story in Chicago. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:55 PM) There is nothing i want to see more this off season... I just can't see it happening with the young pitching we have. It would mean that Danks and Floyd gets dealt or Sale stays in the pen with one of those guys gone. I think Sale stays in the pen and replaces Peavy. I think Mark is here for 3 more years on an annual basis. -

Off topic, I met Rick Hahn over he weekend. Very personable down to earth guy. Did not look like what I expected him to. I wished him look on whatever he decides and thanked him all he has done with the Sox. Something about the conversation led me to believe he is not going anywhere. I have nothing to back this up just a feeling I got. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:39 PM) It's so much fun watching Viciedo, Flowers and De Aza 3 players not worthy of an ozzie guillen lineup 4-6 2 runs 2 RBI and a walk Rest of the lineup 2-17 Slowey is a minor league pitcher though -

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) 102 pitches for MB, time to get the pen up? If they think they are in a pennant race yes but I don't think guillen even thinks so Three months ago the Sox would be bunting in this situation -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) Guillen must be nuts. He keeps Dunn hitting 4th for ever so then when he finally benches Dunn he bats Rios 4th. I swear if I didnt know better I'd say he's got money riding on the other team. it really does seem like he is almost trying to prove a point in losing these games -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) score some motherf***ing runs!!! It really is sad how those players that work with walker regress and how a team can look god awful trying to hit 89 MPH fastballs. Rios has absolutely no power whatsoever. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) No one here has, as far as I know, ever defended ozzie as a great on the field tactical manager. Not even Greg. The defending point for Ozzie was always supposed to be that he'd get the most out of his players. You could look at the projections coming into the season and the team would outperform them, at least by a little. Adam Dunn, Alex Rios, Gordon Beckham, and a host of others simply should not be as bad as they are this season. If Ozzie Guillen's job is to get the most out of his players, he is utterly failing to do so, for whatever reason. So no, it may not be his fault that Dunn and Rios have imploded...but similarly, that cannot be used to defend him, because otherwise, there's no reason to keep him. I could not agree more. The same is why Lovie keeps his job. Only in Chicago is getting the most out of your players more an important than being a good field general.

guillen will shove the bs about protecting young players and putting them down in the order No reason for Lilly to not be right and De Aza in CF with rios and Dunn playing checkers in the Bo Jackson rehab pool. -
How does Edwin Jackson get back in the mix in the one scenario? I like Sale and Santos closing games next year with Thorton and Crain in the pen as well. Ohman and a rookie fill that part out nicely. MB Peavy Danks Floyd Humber/Stewart If a team wows you with a trade for Danks or Floyd, you move them.
-
Dunn should not play again this year he is embarrassing himself. I will have a hard time cheering for him while he wears a White Sox uniform. He adds nothing to this team. Sadly when Konerko went down Teahen may have gotten the starts at 1B. Makes that trade even worse.
