  1. I posted this yesterday and then never came back to the thread but what happened to putting the starters out there the last week of the season to get in a groove and be ready for the season?????????? Has the Opening day lineup played in one game this spring? I understand spring means nothing to this organization but slow starts and finishes are the norm and they are doing nothing to change that. The only consistent hitters that are somewhat guaranteed for this season are Dunn and Konerko and age could get the better of both of them. This team could easily hit .180 or .300 in April.
  2. I see the everyday line-up playing the last week of spring training was a myth.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) Maybe if the Mets canned Minaya long ago when he'd already proven worthless instead of letting him try to cover up terrible signing after terrible signing they wouldn't have wound up in such a mess. The teams have nothing to blame but themselves. A lot of those teams you see with issues (Mets, Dodgers, Tigers) overspent on bad rosters. The Tigers debt to equity could be that low if they financed and own the stadium. The cubs situation is interesting in that Ricketts can afford the operating loss if he wanted to.
  4. Utility guys keep guys Chris Widger from playing third base and Jermaine Dye from playing shortstop. they have value and Teahan has value. Jesus you would think the guys is making $15M a year.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) Forbes has two new reports that show a problem in MLB's finances that could be a foreshadow of things to come. I wont post the whole articles, but here are the links, read for yourself. Special Report: Inside Baseball’s Debt Disaster Yankees Soar, Mets Plunge On List of Baseball’s Most Valuable Teams The complete list of team values This all comes after last year's leaked financial documents and the bankruptcy of the Texas Rangers. And remember the Rickets have a huge amount of debt after they bought the cubs. Here's the scariest paragraph: The Tigers are valued at less than $420M....wow. cubs will be in trouble if the cash flow drops. $532M...that has to be close to $30M a year in debt servicing at a minimum.
  6. The White Sox drop more easy popups than the rest ofthe MLB combined I think. Jose Valentin against the Twins, Joe Crede against the Red Sox and the 2nd baseman in Oakland game are three off the top of my head. Sure none are as bad as Luis Castillo against the Yankees but it just seems to me that every pop-up is an adventure.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) Is it April 1st already, or is Soxtalk in midseason form? midseason form never ends you have been here long enough to know the storm clouds never clear out.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) Frankly, that would be a stupid decision. If we cut him we still pay him so what would we be gaining. He's still a pretty decent utility guy. Obviously not at what he's making but unless some team is willing to take him off our hands he's still a better option off the bench than anyone else we have in camp. I agree people act like he is taking a spot from a better player and that is not the case nor is his contract that huge that it is killing the team.
  9. I like the theory posted a couple of pages back. The flu f***s you up they should have shut him down for a couple of more days. Really what is the rush here.
  10. I think Jake is coming north unless the weather has something to say about it.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 07:15 AM) Buehrle scheduled to start- Splendid but today is the 16th.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) I really don't worry about pitching results in Spring Training. The key today is that Jake threw 67 pitches and has velocity. Yep in April they are hoping he can throw 70 pitches.....the retaining of velocity is key.
  13. How is Peavy looking?
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) Yea - and the Giants guy didn't say anything else about it yet. At one point he did say: "I don't know what this is about and I don't want to overstate anything but it doesn't look like a normal reaction from a pitcher.... He's in the dugout now and not showing any signs of pain - getting high fives from his team mates." I don't know what to think other than *uck the giants radio guy. Melton would have gotten the story straight.
  15. Sweet mother of god if he could handle third base that line-up would be looking sweet. The left side of the infield could be called the Cuban Missle Crisis or Little Havana.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) Yeah, I think we have like back-to-back games w/ them coming up soon, and then the last game of the season I think is vs. them. I think the last two of the season are against them but I could be wrong.
  17. What is the score?

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) Thanks for the feedback. I'm torn between staying at one of the big waterparks and staying at a hotel that offers discounted or free tickets to Noah's Ark or Chula Vista or Mt Olympus. I could save money by staying at a basic hotel, but then I lose the convienence of being able to just run down to the waterpark for an hour or so at night. Has anyone stayed at any of the big waterparks? How was the cleanliness? The bigger wateparks are as clean as they can considering that ther are kids involved and parents trying to make the most out of their vacation. The benefit of the larger waterparks is that you have the convenience of being close to a room and getting things as you need them (dry clothes, a breief break, food, drinks).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) I know that a lot of the Dells got destroyed by the flood a couple years back, is that pretty much repaired and back to normal now? Yes The Kalahari (sp?) is bigger and one place but he Wilderness is more spread out and seems less crowded both are better than the rest. The Great Wolf is nice but it is smaller. We stay at he Wilderness and never leave. The cabins are awesome. Price is a major tipping point.
  20. I think the weather will play a part as they may not want him to pitch in the cold. Remember his first start last year 38 degrees and raining.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) What is the best way to remove semen from a keyboard? ask the girl in the cube next to you to lick it off
  22. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) Wow, I surprised at this. It will be interesting to see how long he can go at that speed. What the hell do you know.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) Got mine last night. Awesomeness. I like the new look of the tix too. Me too. I have Club Seats and the LG on them makes we think I need to get an LG tv. Life's Good.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) Ranger should be doing these games instead of Trey Bender. And Ventura is a good call, but I'd rather hear Rongey do them solo, and bring in guests throughout the game like Charley Steiner does on the Dodgers side. You guys assume Melton is being paid and the others will work for what he makes.
