  1. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) And you think Ozzie does?! As I pointed out on page 9 of this thread, if the pitchers are doing their job, Copper and and Guillen handle the bullpen very well. What is so bad about this deal he didn't cost as much and should be at least a decent guy with Thorton and McDougal.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) Do you expect Ozzie will? I actually think he does do this very well if guys are doing their job. I echo the sentiment of the poster that said that this board b****es either. They may have a trade for a McDougal or Aardesma. Teams will take chances on these type of guys. Package one of them with Uribe and you may get something, not much, but something. Bullpens are a complete crapshot for just about every team. Throw 15 guys out there and try and get 7 to be decent. This is a nice move, nothing great but nice. Not sure why they didn't wait and see if the Brewers were even going to offer arbitration.
  3. I think for the same price Jones is a better player then Hunter on the field but Hunter brings that grinder mentality, sorry for using that term but I think it is what seperates the two. Teh two year age difference is huge because Jones for 6 years is stomacable while Hunter I beleive is not. I think Hunter plays the game harder and it will take a greater toll on his body. I think Jones cost more money per year and for longer years and his agent will keep him on the market until February. The Sox should really be going aftter Fukodome and Rowand.
  4. Does Cleveland still have the Korean gay porn star? They could take hot dog eating to the next level.
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) this is 2007 nobody looks at baseball cards I was using the Greg Walker quote to make a point.
  6. OC will help Fields like Guillen helped Ventura. The OC thing looks better when you look beyond the back of the baseball card and into the clubhouse.
  7. Aren't Masset and Floyd out of options? If so they would justabout guaranteed spots on the roster.
  8. Rocky Wirtz is becoming the George Steinbrenner of hockey, which could be good.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Not that it matters, but Levine said he was positive Konerko was going to be dealt. Not to nit pick your quote but did Levine state that he WAS positive in that he thought the Angels were trying to get Konerko for Cabrera and was wrong?
  10. Wow when did GG SS become pieces of garbage? The guy automatically upgrades our defense and saves money. I was the biggest Jon Garland fan on this board but this move makes the White Sox better. I beleive the White Sox feel they can sign him reasonably for a long term deal. He helped Boston win the WS and he can steal a base. I liked Garland but I think the White Sox got the better end of this deal. I believe Cabrera is better then Renteria and Furcal and this team is better because of it.
  11. You know what.......if you care.....I think we made a good trade for both teams. We have a GG shortstop and we have legitimate depth on the infield. I still think Uribe would be a GG 3B and the Sox can move both Fields and Crede this offseason if need be.
  12. Levine doesn't tell of prospects that may be involved. Garland -$12M cash If the Angels pick up half the contract this is Carlos Lee Part. Sox could have picked up $8M in cash for a FA???? They also could have a trade for Uribe set up?
  13. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Nah, the "evil one" easn't loony. The pilot guy...was it Tilman? I can't believe I am forgetting his name. I always considered him "evil" or something due to the fact that he seemed to always be right. Nobody should ever be right that often. I loved him on the news. What the heck was his name??? Jim Tilman, NOBODY and I mean NOBODY took weather more seriously then Jim Tilman. He also was/is the Ch. 5 aviation expert as he was a commercial pilot. Anytime there was a plane issue (crashes mostly) he would get to sit at the desk and give the lowdow. This was when news was about passion and not the crap we get now. Tilman, John Drummond, Fahey Flynn, Johnny Morris, Bill Curtis. Chicago still turns out some good one's Lester Holt
  14. I didn't see a-lot of last night's game but a couple of things. The Kane and Toews line keeps the defense on their heels and late in the game that meant something. My thoughts and I am a remedial fan is that in a prevent, a defensive grouping seems to allow better scoring chances. Khaby is the guy that is going to determine how far this team goes. I think the forwards on this team can be as good as anyone once Havlet comes back as Sharp is looking good, really good. They appear to have enough forwards to consistently score. The defense seems ok but will be the downfall if it is not improved. On CSN post game they interviewed Khabi, I did not think he spoke as good of English as he does. Oh and finally their were interviewing Bobby Knight during the OU Texas Tach game it was very good. Johnny "Red" Kerr is turning into Ron Santo.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Wow! I don't think I could disagree more with this comment. Marmol has the potential to be an all-world closer for the next decade. He reminds me so much of K-Rod. If he can't get the slider over his fastball can be hit. As hitters become acclimated to the slider the more I think they will lay off of it and then I think he will get hit. He could be all-world he could also be average. Am I wrong about his fastball as I thought it topped out around 93?
  16. QUOTE(beautox @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 05:17 AM) The Rays don't need anyone, they have the best farm system in all of baseball and a loaded ML club that just needs a bit more time together. Exactly why if they move Crawford it will be for pitching and only pitching and good young grade A pitching. I think Hill is really overrated especially seeing that he will be 28 years old at the start of next year and went 11-8 in the NL Central. Marmol was great last year but fizzled in the playoffs. He was really bad the year before as a starter. He is an unknown to me for next year. I would compare Hill/Marmol to Danks/Masset based mostly on the age of the players. Hell I'd say Gio/Masset is better than Hill/Marmol. Marmol is solely a relief pitcher while all three Sox pitchers have better upside I believe then the cub pitchers. I beleive Felix Pie is the equivalent of Brian Anderson with the only difference being the cubs did not trash their player.
  17. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) The Dodgers may value Crede's defense at 3rd and not like Cabrera's attitude and weight. The Dodgers could solidify 3rd with 1-2 good prospects instead of 3-4 very good ones. Crede would also be a cheaper salary. The Sox could add a young star who is friend's with Ozzie. The Sox may have a "gut feeling" that Cabrera would sign long term with the Sox from conversations that Ozzie may have had with him. The Sox may not be as worried about his weight due to the Ozzie connection as well. This potential trade seems a lot like the Freddie Garcia trade in 2004. I think this could actually happen and I'm sure KW is making an extraordinary effort to work something out. I'd give acquiring Cabrera a 46% chance of happening. Thank you for writing my thoughts. Crede is a much better long term 3rd base solution if healthy. That is an if that can easily be solved. He is also a lower risk money wise. If the Dodgers are willing to spend th cash this is better move as they can lock up Crede long term more easily than Cabrera.
  18. Could the steroid thing finally void Giambi's contract. Something would have to give there as they would have 4 OF's and 2 1B's then for 5 spots in the order.
  19. Soto and Marmol could be one hit wonders although I have not researched their minor league numbers all that much, I thought neither was all that highly thought of prior to last year. Pie did nothing when callled up and his body does not transalate into a major league 5 tool player in my mind he is to whispy. I think Hill and Marshall are both below average pitchers that will get lit up in the AL East. All you need to do is look at Ted Lilly and Hill and Marshall are not that good. Playing in the worst division in baseball history really helped them look better than they are I beleive. I think the Sox could get a third team involved and make a better package up.
  20. Nobody will know how the bullpen will do until next October, to say it is a strength or weakness is a crap shoot for all but a hand full of major league teams. The stress you put on a pen day in and day out can make it crumble. The White Sox bullpen right now could be the best in the league right now or it could be the worst. The problem is, there is no way to fix it for sure. This is the case with every team in baseball. The starting pitching, defense and offense play as big a role in the success of the bullpen as anyhting else. If every game is close late in the game who can only go to couple of guys.
  21. Sign Jones and Rowand and hope one of Sweeney/Anderson/Owens proves they are ready the following year.......
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) Ugh, please don't happen. That would be a pretty dominant 1-2-3-4 if that happened. I assume they'd have to give up Hill, E. Patterson, and someone like Marmol and Hart. Once again, our lack of minor league development is just killing us when it comes time to make trades. I don't think this gets it done. Hill is not that good (the AL East would murder him) nor is Patterson, Marmol is the starting point as would Danks be with the Sox. Hart is nothing special either. I really do not think that either team as the minor league depth to get it done without really hurting their long term chances. If Dempster moves to the roation as they have stated and they trade Marmol that bullpen becomes very weak. I think Crawford is moved after all of the CF stuff washes out.
  23. Simply put, last night was awesome. I got the feeling that the Hawks really made it hard on the Red Wings and forced them to try and be a little too perfect. The Red Wings did not look as crisp nor did things look as easy for them as it had in the past. I give the Haws credit for this more than the Wings being sloppy. Nikoli stood on his head for two periods. The third was good although I thought the second goal was cheap. This was the first live game I saw and I thought one of the knocks on Kane was he was smallish. I was thinking Steve Smith small. This he is not. The music was differnet and I am not sure which way to go. The Mister Mister Broken Wings song was cheesie and the the rock music a bit odd and I can go either way. Great time all the way around. This team appears very different from the previous years.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) Anyone going to the game tomorrow night? It's arguably the biggest game of this decade for the Hawks -- I really hope people tune in to watch them along with a packed UC. I can't wait -- the Bears game is an afterthought compared to the 6:00 puck-drop. I'll be there wearing my JR jersey in honor of goal number 500. Hockeytown......my ass Go Hawks!
  25. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 08:16 AM) That's just KW trying to drive up the asking price for Joe Crede IMO. "We're so confident in Joe that we'll send Fields down to AAA next year, so if you want to make a deal for him- we're not just going to give him away." Someone should tell KW nobody is buying it. Everyone knows he'll essentially give Crede away. No he won't. If Crede plays the year and walks as a FA the Sox could get 2 high picks. If he is healthy and it appears he is, he is a better option than Fields. Fields working on his defense and a back-up to Thome and Konerko should something happen is not a bad thing. He is not going to give him away.
