  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) Our SS for next year is batting 9th behind Joel Pinero. He has been doing this for a while now. Gives Pujols the first inning at-bat but also puts three hitters ahead of him. It seems Pujols is pretty unclutch against the cubs. Man on second one out and our future SS bunts and pops out ot the pithcer.....sounds right.
  2. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) The problem for Vick may be, accepting any sort of plea bargain may result in the end of his NFL career. So eventhough the risk will vastly incrase, a trial may be the best option because; a) the Falcons will have to pay him for the duration of the trial (potentially if he accepts a plea and goes to jail they could void teh contract) so if the trial drags a few years (think R Kelly) he may get the full value of his contract and at that point whatever happens happens, B) eventhough things may look grim trials are not exactly a sure thing for the govt in high profile cases, if anything the govt has generally not done so well in high profile cases (vicks money really evens the playing field usually prosecution has basically unlimited resources and that drainst eh average defendant, vick can fight for years with the best money can buy). Whenever a govt case rests on "flipper" witnesses, it is inherently weak. The witnesses who saw vick commit the crimes are not going to be the type of people that you would generally believe. Vicks defense team will attack them and the fact that they are testifying to save their own ass, so it will play off to the jury that the only reason vick is being implicated is because by fingering him the witnesses are themselves getting out of their own crime, which is a very powerful incentive to perhaps exaggerate Vick's involvement. because if there was no Mike Vick in this case, there is no way in hell the govt is cutting deals with the other defendants. I can definitely see vick being able to beat a guilty rap, especially because his lawyers should be amazing at picking jurors and all it will take is one to just not want to convict. And I think that vick is most likely guilty, but at the trial it might go differently. I believe the "flippers" receieved no benefit to testifying and there was no leniancy given to them although I could be wrong. It seems the case is pretty concrete. It is possible that the Vick defense is hoping for an O.J. Simpson ruling. Also the State of Virginia is seeking to bring suit for the killing of 8 dogs. The prison term on this related to the cruelty of animals is 5 years PER dog. Ouch.
  3. Next year's outfield will be Pods-Rowand-Dye with Erstad and Gonzalez as the 4th and 5th guys I also think Count will be moved this season.
  4. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) There are two shortstops on the team. One of them has to play. How exactly does that translate into Guillen not believing in OBP and selective hitting? Hint, it doesn't. Erstad is treated like Rod Carew. Oh ok. Your conclusion really should be this, the GM needs to acquire better players. It was as I stated above. I believe Guillen and Williams discuss what the teams needs. In four years together they have not gone after OBP guys now after everyone else has seen this they have decided to join the club. The whole concept stems from the pitch count and how when a guy is around 100 pitchesl, he is thought to be done for the day. I do not recall ever thinking of this until the last 4 years. Hence guys that work the count and have a higher OBP get the pitcher out of there as opposed to the 2 pitch at-bats.
  5. Edomnds and Encarnacion will swing from their heels, so hopefully Rolen does something.
  6. Why can't Pujols hit the f***ing cubs christ sake.
  7. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) See, now that is kind of funny. Are you kidding? Throwing a drink at somebody is funny? Please, explain to me how it is funny? I'm not talking about it being offensive or anything, I just don't get how this is funny. Is it just as funny if I yell "fire in the hole" and throw, say, an apple? Is it the brilliance of throwing a beverage that is funny? Does it matter if it is a carbonated drink, or is a glass of water just as funny? Obviously it isn't the reaction that is so hysterical, as the brave pranksters haul butt as fast as they can. So in theory it would be just as funny to yell "fire in the hole" and throw it as a brick wall. I guess the true comedy of this act is the combination of the words, fire-in-the-hole, and the object being hurled. Seriously, if this is "comedy" then this explains how Steve-O has a career. It stems from the cultural stand point of having no respect for one another that has become an epidemic with society. Nobody gives a s*** about anyone anymore and the feelings of others mean nothing to society. Me first and who gives as s*** about anyone or anything else. The younger generation (I am 36 and it started with my generation) has no respect for elders, themselves or anyone surrounding them. Hence the rash or parents simply killing their kids because it is the easist thing to do.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) Go figure...the Cubs were denied the ability to trade Jacques Jones, and now he's their hottest hitter. Like I said, I hate this baseball season. Think about stepping in s*** and smelling like a rose. Theriot and Fontenot will be career .240 hitters and Marmol has come out of nowhere...yet they are still in the pathetic race. They couldn't give Jones away. Somehow I think the Cards win today though.
  9. Off the top of my head, do the cubs have $70M a year tied to 4 guys a season for the next four years and $85M for 6 guys next season (Ramirez, Lee, Big Z, Lilly , Marquis and the Fonz)? Their pyroll has to be $120M next year. That team is a cash cow.
  10. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) Completely incorrect. He has spoken many times to the press this year about the need for better at bats, there have been lots of articles in the papers and on the White Sox site. Further, I have heard him personally in Tucson, dozens and dozens of times, talk about being selective at the plate. I really don't know where these misconceptions come from. The fact that Juan Uribe plays daily, Alex Cintron still plays and Darin Erstad is treated like Rod Carew. The day Podsednik went down Iguchi should have been entered into the lead-off slot not the caravan on abysmal OBP guys that have been in there IMHO.
  11. You know what I found interesting and correct me if I am wrong but the treatment of the animals is only a misdeameanor and all of his problems are related to illegal gambling. What did Paul Horning and Webster's TV step dad do to get suspended for a season?
  12. After watching Oakland, Minnesota, Boston and New York work pitchers over even when they are not scoring runs, it is mind numbing when it comes to the White Sox softball mentality. For KW to finally speak of this now makes him look really bad. Also the manager he employs does not believe in this concept whatsoever. Players shold not be added to the 40 man roster until they need to be not simply because Guillen wants to see them pitch in a lost season.
  13. Nice job by Javy Brandon Phillips sucks
  14. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) We have a RF who dives after a ball that he won't catch 3 times in 100 chances. That's how So he catches that ball 97 out of 100 times? I didn't see it but was it a catchable ball?
  15. Dye plays a ball into a triple after 2nd and 3rd and one out yields nothing. I did not know this game was even being played until I logged in here.
  16. Why doesn't he sue the guy that tried to kill him by giving him banned substances without telling him what they were? Has this question ever been asked?
  17. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) 590 The Fan is reporting Rick Ankiel gets the call Woot!!!!!!! YAY!!! About time!! Maybe there's a deal with an outfielder (Encarnacion).. somethin has to have happened.. dont think they'd DL Spiezio and go 6 outfielders with one less infielder.. Is there any bad press about how the Cards did nothing to improve and how the division was their's with a trade or two at the break. .500 ball the last 10 days has them right there.
  18. QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Watching last night, I think the great chemistry was heavily influenced by Stone's preparedness. I never really watch the Cubs or NL so Stone's insight in those games past was somewhat lost on me. However, his knowledge of the White Sox and the AL was impressive and made for an enjoyable viewing AND listening experience. I really have grown tired of Hawk over recent years, in particular when he takes his frequent trips down memory lane. However, when he has a guy next to him with knowledge in the here and now, the dialogue is downright enjoyable and enlightening. I sometimes suspect those trips down memory lane helps fill the void of knowledge and preparedness that a color man should provide, but DJ lacks. I could take Hawk and Stone for years to come. I think you hit the nail on the head. Hawk is the PBP guy who also does 50% of the color work. DJ to me sounds disinterested most of the time and adds very little insite into the game. The television broadcasts with Stone remind me of the radio when Rooney was there. I think Singleton has vastly improved but Farmer's personality will stifle him. I think the chatter of old time baseball that Hawk puts out there is needed to fill the dead air left by DJ. As for Farmer and Hawk disrespecting the side kicks, I blame the sidekicks as much as the PBP guys especially DJ he's been there for 7 years. I think Stone can rid Hawk of some of the homer antics as again I think Hawk is forced to fill to much of the game and hence we hear about Sam McDowell, Catfish, and Sir Hinneybird.
  19. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 01:31 AM) Stone with Hawk on TV, DJ pbp on the Score, Farmer color. Singleton... somewhere else. In a year and a half I think Singleton is gretly improved and will be better than DJ in the long haul.
  20. Ozzie Guillen is a good manager and will be for as long as he chooses to be because he understands the players and the game. If he is managing games by the seat of his pants, simple moves that should be made may not be made because his pants don't tell him so. I believe he needs a bench coach to rely on. Despite all of the BS about Baines becasue he isn't up on a soapbox chattering with everyone that wants to talk with him, he knows baseball as does everyone in the dugout......more than everyone on this board. The thing is this is a message board and if not for these topics we can all post about trading John Danks for Migel Tejada in the offseason. I like Hawk and his rants about Catfish and early era baseball because it is better than the alternatives like the half inning score updates which also scroll across the bottom of the screen. Stone and Hawk are a great duo that I would listen to regardless of the team because they are interesting. This shows how brutal DJ is. Nice win.
  21. I have been saying all year that Joey Cora is a terrible bench coach.
  22. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) My neighbor went on sunday. Descriptions of the day leave me wondering why the heck people go to those things. Right on. Got free tickets for the weekend and went Sunday night to see Pearl Jam. I thought it was one of their better shows. It was way to crowded though. I am never going back again. Left home pretty buzzed got home sober as a judge. Not the way I wanted it to work. Their set list was better than I thought it would be but the crowd was a bunch of jag offs that seemed to want to fight and show their girl friend how tough they were. My buddy was confronted by some doucebag and when the guy realized it was going to be four on one he and his lady simmered down. Right when I was getting past the crowd scene and really thinking the show was going ot be awesome they brought out a wounded Iraqi vet and went on a very long winded political rant. I see their point but by their means the Germans would have annihilated most of the world in their "Free World" it really turned me off. The sound was much better than I expected. Anti-war people really make me laugh, it is so simple for them. Peace.
  23. I think what this thread is coming down to is the fact that there were options here and the one's choosen failed. If Uribe is on first in that situation or say Fields then the bunt works. The thing was the battery combination along with Owens speed is what this team wants to be known for. If I-Rod is behind the plate or a leftie is on the mound then the bunt is best. Flip the situation to this, Granderson on first, no outs, Polanco-Sheffield-Ordonez up, what do you do with Jenks/AJ..... I think the situation last evening had the opportuntiy to see waht Owens was made of. Stone said Owens could get a huge lead. I would've liked to have seen the Fields at-bat play out a little more. There just never seems to be a creative managerial move made from the White Sox and I think the lack of a good bench coach is the reason.
  24. AJ, Konerko and Fields all should have made outs swinging at the first pitch. I again blame Joey Cora. The bench coach's job is to help in making the decisions that were made in the 9th. Owens should have gone on the second pitch if not the first. Steve Stone adds more insite in one sentence than DJ has in 7 plus years. I think Stone and Hawk would be great together unfortunatly it will not happpen. Stone corrects Hawk to better understand what he is talking about. The thing is, I like the history of baseball and Hawk brings that out.
