Rangers fan here on McCarthy trade
Both teams have solid 3's. The Sox a have a potential 2. The Sox also got a guy for the pen this year who is a possible closer in exchange for the premise that BM can start right now where Danks is slotted for 2007. All three guys need to make the transition to the MLB level now. Despite the fact that BM did have a couple of glimmers he has had some rough spots which BM's fans will gloss over. He was creamed coming out of the pen last year and Tampa hit him good in a spot start. He was used very irratically by Guillen out of the pen so last year was a waste to him although he did learn he needs to make quality pitchers every time he throws the ball. His mistakes are not missed. My personal thoughts are that the Sox want to start someone other than McCarhty this season. The Chicago press have him rated pretty highly. The organization I feel wanted to avoid a PR mess in April by going through it now. The madia here believe prospects are only good for the independent leagues. For 2006 Texas got what hey needed therefore right now they will appear to have the upper hand. Going forward it will depend on how Masseret pans out.

Williams obsession with certain prospects
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 05:06 AM) Agreed. It's better than scouring message boards and taking notes to determine your trade plans. Or having to spend $18M next year guys like Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis.

McCarthy Traded to Texas
QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) I didnt read the entire thread so I dont know if thjis was mentioned or not, but is there any possibility aquiring Danks has also a little to do with his brother? The way KW covets people and never forgets about them, could this possibly be a way to convince Jordan to leave Texas so they can draft him again? The Jordan Danks thing has been brought up. He can come out as a junior (I think he is a junior) this June or stay another year. He could use this to try and play with his brother as a team may not want to risk losing a 1st round pick on him which the Sox could use. They have the relationship with the family from a couple of years back. This would make KW looked like a complete genius if it worked out. My thoughts are the Sox wanted Haegar in the rotation this year and this is the easist way to get it. McCarthy would whine and complain if he was sent down to start the year and then replace an injured pitcher during the year or Buerhle the next year. I think the Tampa game and the disaster that was his attempt at relieving cost him the job in this organization. I also think that there is a bigger move coming for these younger guys.

Some thoughts on the trades so far
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) Any deal involving any positional player shouldn't even be under consideration. A reasonable person can't possibly trade McCarthy, Broadway, Danks within one offseason at the risk of abandoning pitching depth. Screw Crawford. Everyone should forget about him. He won't help us much when the various starters within our rotation begin to leave. Since our organization has shown a reluctance to sign pitchers to long term deals, it makes more sense to stockup on that division of the system. Anyways, knowing how Williams has operated, it'll probably be Danks/Broadway/Gonzalez for Crawford. That's far too much of our future for someone who represents 1/9 of a lineup. I realize his potential, but Jesus, how much are we willing to sacrifice for him? Weren't Garland, Garcia, Buerhle, and Contreras all signed to long term deals rather than letting them hit free agency?

McCarthy Traded to Texas
I think that Buerhle is going to ink a long term deal. If he craps out there are better options for cheaper long-term which could cover a bad contract, make some sense? I also think Haegar is the number 5 and the organization felt this all along and this was the reason for moving McCarthy. If there is a thought that we needed more "stuff" pitchers, the Sox got rid of two guys that were feel pitchers last year. Jose and Vazquez are stuff guys and Garland (and buerhle to an extent) are still growing and have better stuff than McCarthy. If McCullough and the leftie we got in the Cotts trade pan out this offseason can be nothing short of spectacular. It also could suck badly. I think there is a major move coming though for a solid to great number 5.

Some thoughts on the trades so far
I believe the organization likes Haegar more than McCarthy. Think about facing Haegar and then any of six guys that throw 95+ out of the pen. At the start of the winter OG stated that he wanted 6 guys that could close. Well he has them. I also believe there is a major deal coming up for a couple of young pithcers (ie Danks and Broadway for Crawford).

McCarthy Traded to Texas
How come Wainwright could have success out of the pen and McCarthy could not? Lance Broadway is now easy to get rid of as well as MCullough. Two guys that were really high on the prospect list. Weaver is an option as well.

McCarthy Traded to Texas
Offer Clemens the moon to quite the critics they like theses moves. He is a stop gap until either Floyd, Gonzalez or Danks are ready to take a place a top of the rotation. I actually think that the Sox should tell Clemens he will pitch every Sunday and go with a six man rotation based around this. I like the move FWIW.

Ross Gload Traded For Andrew Sisco
This is a great trade. As stated about 15 times Glaod wasn't going to get playing time. Sisco has a great arm. The pen now has 5 guys that throw over 95, that is tough. Not sure why the Royals would make this move. There is no point to it at all.

Free Agent Pitchers Next year
The guy is a big game pitcher and a horse. Is he even 26 yet? If Petitte can get $16M for one year, Zambrano will get well over $20M. He could rival A-Rod with the goofiness of his contract. Say what you want but he could be the best pitcher in baseball bar none by the end of this season.

Reinsdorf speaks
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:58 AM) What jersey was Jered Weaver wearing? And the ring ceremony would be the one time I wouldnt mind it because its 1 day your celebrating with a team you won the WS with. If Weaver was supporting the Cards thats different because its his brother and he is a rookie young guy you expect them not to be as professional(think Milledge after his 1st HR). While watching Jeff Weaver pitch in the WS, Jared Weaver was the poster child for Cardinal attire. Every stich of clothing was Cardinals. I get the feeling Buerhle will be signed long term. If so, I wish he would show up in a Cardinal jersey and hat.

A-Rod deal heating up?
QUOTE(Guillen @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) The Yanks had a lot of confidence in AROD's glove and look what happened there. I'm telling you, don't underestimate the difficulty in switching from SS to 3B. He played there and was good at it when Crede slumped a couple of years back.

A-Rod deal heating up?
QUOTE(philadelphia sox fan @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Doesn't ARod have a full no trade clause? Why would he want to move to Chicago? And do the White Sox really want a terrible fielder at what I think is the most important fielding position (3b) If Uribe was still on the team, he would play third and A-Rod short. Uribe played pretty good third when given the chance and with that arm would be better than Crede.

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
Outside of their cups of coffee as major league starters what is the difference between Floyd and McCarthy. McCarthy wet himself facing major league hitters so did Floyd last year.
-
Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
Sun-Times stated that the White Sox watched film of Gavin Floyd all day yesterday and they feel that there was a mechanical issue that they can correct. They got back two major league arms under 25. There are not many of them. I do not believe Copper is the second coming but he got Thorton and Jenks to do something pretty well and he may be able to do it with Floyd. Last night I thought this trade sucked. Now I actually like it Number 5 options for next year McCarthy, Floyd, Broadway, Haegar, and Gio/Mccullogh at least there are options. There is also Matt Thorton.

KW likes to give up three pitchers
KW likes to move pitchers. Could Gio, Haegar and Floyd/Broadway get Carl Crawford????? Please ease my pain and say yes.

Steve Phillips....c'mon now
Imagine the OBP if he and Thome bat around one another. Lord that is a ton of walks. As for speed and defense IF he is somewhat healthy which I am not sure of, he is a better leftfielder than Pods. That is a huge if though. In general he does not appear to fit this team as it causes more issues. Now what if there was a market for Thome? What if Thome was injured in the second half and they feel this is the player he is and not the one we saw in the first half? If there is value in Thome why not explore Bonds to replace Thome? Not saying I would like it but Bonds pays for himself and is off the books the next year. In the current market, Thome's numbers = $12-15M and he can still play first base. Think the Astros could use a lefthanded bat for firstbase and starter........ Think Schmidt could replace Garcia? Sorry I am bored with the inactivity. Bonds and Sox keeps popping up, there has to be something there. Maybe AJ and he actually got along....

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Imagine what Cotts and Garcia could have gotten from Houston based on their needs.

Williams working on extension for Buehrle/Garcia
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) If this was to happen, it would equate to: Garcia, Gio, Haigwood for Thome, Madson/Floyd I would think KW could get more for Garcia. You're missing the $7M cash.

Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd
An 18 game winner for a 4th outfielder is not a good deal. I am hoping this is where the talk starts with the Phils and ends with Rollins, Lieber, Floyd and Rowand for Garcia, Uribe and Aardesma.

Sox show interest in Toronto's Wells
I am not so sure that Vernon Wells is not worth the Beltran money and the Sox will give it to him. I think this is a guy you spend big bucks on.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Last year Crawford vs. Cleveland: on base 11 times (no xbh) 3 stolen bases Podsednik vs. Cleveland: on base 19 times (no xbh) 9 stolen bases Based on the fact the Sox played Cleveland about 19 times and Tampa played them maybe 6 or 9, what is the point of this?

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) There is no way in a trillion years that the Sox get Santana, Figgins and Shields for Crede and Garcia. But it would be nice.... It would be for Crede, Garcia and McCarthy it that scenario.

Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
Can't the Japanese club also reject the Mets/second highest bidder if the Red Sox don't ink the deal?
