QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) who bats lead off then? Whoever is playing second base.

Anyone see the Friday Pop-up promotion at the game last night. That kid was a better outfielder than Pods, I AM NOT JOKING either.

Patience at the plate and we win, if Fred throws strikes. Yesterday patience would have ended Lester in 4 innings (Crede and Ozuna).

How wasn't Widger 9th. walk - swing at four straight pitches for two out- walk Crede hit it hard. Think Cliff'll bat if Mack gets on. -

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) You have to beat the teams you are supposed to beat. You know that. You know better than that. In 2005, the White Sox beat the teams they were supposed to beat. If you want to win this division--especially this year--you have got to beat the teams with the worst records in the league. Period. C'mon, you know better than that. Exactly right that is what makes this game important. Thanks Jim. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 02:10 PM) Doesnt mean I like it. Apparently we arent supposed to lose a game ever. It will happen. Our pitcher wasnt on today, and the Pirates are so overdue for a win its ridiculous. It's not the losing it is that we are not taking the opportunities to win. We play in the best division in baseball at some point we can not be giving games away. A loss today and we can be 4 1/2 out by Monday. Not the end of the world but not a pleasant thought. -

Amazing what a pinch hitter could do. While our hottest hitter the past three games (Iguchi) sits and watches a guy pitch like s***. Instead of getting him a win, he is going to get him shelled. The sad thing is with the rain, a 5-5 game would like great right now. -

Two strikes, three pitches not even close and then a fastball down the middle. Take him out of this thing with Widger. The magic of Widger from last year is history. First pitch pop out to third is pathetic. Well at least we will get a two out pinch hitter in the 6th. Any talk of Contrearas and the all-star game needs to stop right now. There more then 10 better pitchers than him right now. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) That 97 MPH pitch was not a slider. The next pitch he threw was more of a slider. The 97 MPH pitch was more of a cutter. Still, you don't see many 97 MPH cutters. OK, he started using a cutter, even better.....now he is using a 100MPH fastball, 97 MPH Cutter, 94 MPH Slider and a 87 MPH offspeed pitch. Teach him the knuckler and we may have something.
-
It seems Jenks is really getting into that slider of his. He started to throw it against the Cardinals big fastball hitters last week and did so again Sunday and yesterday. If he gets this pitch over he will be devastating and hitters will have no chance. The funny thing was that it registered at 97 MPH and instead of just saying what a good/great pitch it was Joe Morgan rambles how the gun HAS to be wrong as he has never seen a 97 MPH slider. This post is more about the work he can do with this pitch. I think this was what got Ausmus to ground weakly into the DP Sunday and both guys yesterday. Last year it seemed in back to back days or when overworked Jenks would get hit a little. In the extra inning World Series game he went to this pitch and went 2 innings, I believe. If he throws strikes he is unhittable. Oh, and I like Matt Thorton even more if he throws strikes.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 08:50 AM) Unfortunately I think you are dead on. Especially with Barrett coming back I can see their club really getting up for this series. We won't have the luxury of Jim and Paulie in the lineup at the same time. Plus we get Garland and Javy going for us which could be scary. These are my thoughts exactly and why I posted in the Vazquez thread that Garland and Vazquez need to set the tone. With Barett back their line-up is complete and they are throwing their three best pitchers. With Nevin in left that line-up is not that bad if Pierre can do anything. Unlike the last month, they will not be giving games away.
-
Friday and Saturday and next week will conclude the thoughts of Garland and Vazquez and if they can be depended on for the remainder of the season. Starts at cubs and home against Baltimore should give a very good idea if these guys can cut it. We should go 8-2, 7-3 at the worst of these games with each starter taking the ball twice. Our current big three then face Boston and New York.
