March 27, 200719 yr Carlos is talking his usual arrogant game, discussing what teams he'd play for next year. Sullivan then adds something about a source mentioning Z would want to play for Guillen on the Sox. I know he's a ridiculous talent and all, but I sincerely hope he goes nowhere near the Sox. I just can't stand him. Plus with all the young pitching talent the Sox now have, it seems unlikely they'd want to spend Zambrano-type money on a new starter next year.

I wouldn't say we're now loaded with young pitching talent. Rather, our minor league arms are now equal to about the average minor league system. The problem is that we have very few high ceiling minor league pitchers.
March 27, 200719 yr I'd take him in heartbeat, but I can't see it happening. The only way I could see it is if Ozzie pulls some Latino recruiting stuff out of his ass, and even then, I doubt it.
March 27, 200719 yr Author QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 08:40 AM) I wouldn't say we're now loaded with young pitching talent. Rather, our minor league arms are now equal to about the average minor league system. The problem is that we have very few high ceiling minor league pitchers. If you look at the major league starting 5, then the next 5 to 10 guys, I think the Sox are better off for the next 2 to 3 years than the majority of organizations out there. Not the most talented in baseball, but better than average. Plus we have our own free agents to worry about, with Buehrle after this season and then Garland the next (I think). Combine all those and the Sox' tendency to avoid gigantic pitching contracts, and I think the Sox are not high on the list of possibilities for Zambrano.
March 27, 200719 yr Zambrano = Rodman The average Sox fan who hates him now, would love him later. But I don't see him in a Sox jersey next season. As always, he has a Yankee feel to him. Of course every guy about to cash a winning lotto ticket feels like a Yankee to me.
March 27, 200719 yr Carlos Zambrano is a true #1. One of very few in the game. He will get $20M a year. I also think he would come and play for Ozzie for a discount. Anyone that does not want him for any reason other than the cost is jaded by their hatred for the cubs.

No, actually, I'm jaded by my hatred of the man. There are plenty of guys on the Cubs I'd be happy to have on a team I rooted for. Zambrano though, is just one of those very hateable people that I couldn't ever root for. Bonds, Canseco and Sheffield are in the same category. Just my feeling on the matter.
March 27, 200719 yr QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 08:43 AM) I'd love him; however, he's going to rake it in. So it won't happen. ^^
March 27, 200719 yr The only way a signing like him makes sense is if we're pushing the salary to $130 million. I'll say the same thing for any team in the league...if you're signing a $20 million pitcher, you need to push your salary to the Luxury tax threshhold or it just isn't worth it in terms of having to go with scrubs at other positions.
March 27, 200719 yr I agree with what most of you said, although it'd take a bit to get over the fact he's bats*** nuts, and Ozzie might not be our manager next year.
March 27, 200719 yr Not that it would ever happen but what if Buehrle signed with the cubs this offseason and Zambrano with the sox. LOL

March 27, 200719 yr QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) The White Sox would be better off than the Cubs. Yes I know, and thats why it would be hilarious.
March 27, 200719 yr Author QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) 4 years 16 mil per to steal from the Cubs. Buehrle can walk to St Louis. I somehow don't think he's going for 4/64. Seems like 5+ is more likely for him, and maybe more than 16 per.
March 27, 200719 yr I would kill for a talent like Zambrano to come to the Sox. He is a horse. They would never give him the years and money he is looking for so it doesn't matter anyway though....
March 27, 200719 yr If the scrubs don't re sign him and we actually talk to him, but fall short I will still be happy... Johan will be available next season. That's dreaming though.
