  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) You could also look at this another way. Sox could keep Zach Day as the 5th starter, allowing them to package one of Cont or Duque and some prospects to another team for a pitcher and than be able to lock up said pitcher to a long term deal (ie AJ Burnett). You give up a guy like Duque, and two good prospects and a mid-level for Burnett. Sox than insert Day into the 5th spot (they still have Bmac as the potential 6th guy cause he's the one guy you don't ever offer...also who knows if Florida would accept) and than you now free up 4.5 million or so that Duque was set to make, meaning that you only really increase payroll by 5.5 million and offer AJ 10 mill a year. They could also do this to acquire another player who may have a higher salary. Just throwing it out there. I think the fragile psyche of Count and Duque make them fixtures in some regard. I also do not think a team will take on their salary. I get the feeling the Yanks are paying a good chunck of Count's salary which keeps him cheap for us.
  2. Willie Harris and Joe Borchard would look good. Zach Day can pitch. Stat - Hernandez is 7-2. This makes him a top pitcher in the AL as far as win % goes. He is not a top pitcher in reality though. Borchard is out of options and red hot. They lose him for nothing if he does not stick at the ML level next year. He could be a monster in Colorado. Harris can play OF (speed) or second/short for them.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) I think he meant to put an "or" in there... or perhaps they consider the ones right next to the cf wall obstructed since you can't see a play in rf from some of those seats. I believe next to the CF structure in the bleachers is obstructed view, you are next to a wall basically, I could be wrong.
  4. Schilling is a closer because he can't start at this point. If Schilling were the old Schilling he would be the starter. Arroyo or Clement would close if really needed before Schilling. Schilling's ankle strength is more important then Thomas, he pushes off, Thomas can still hit using one leg and two huge arms without risking injury, unlike Schilling who if he has to use all arm is done. Now on to the real story. I sat behind the bullpen and Bobby Jenks is HUGE. He makes Cliff look like a wee little thing. He almost looks like a cartoon character. I wouldn't say he is fat though he is just big. I would like to see him next to thomas. The guy has electric stuff and that is reason to be excited. His motion is effortless with big time explosion. If he was on Boston there would have been a story on him on the Sox.... Two years ago he (or a guy like him) would've come in given up three hits a walk and need to be bailed out and never heard from again. There is something in the air. A starter is rolling and Ozzie pulls him for no other reason than to get the bull pen work. Contrearas only threw 85 pitches. Nuts but oh so much fun. The Scott P announcement was incredible, team unity, Hermie runs out before the 4th to give him a huge, as did Rowand and Everett on the way to their positions. A RF plays really good 1B. Awesome. Captain Jenks.......he is no phony phone call
  5. What is his OBP? Why isn't this conversation about the lack of production form the 4 slot?
  6. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) I understand that stats are not the end all be all of baseball but are they not an indicator of what is going on? To supposedly have a lot of speed in your lineup with Podsednik, Iguchi, Rowand, and Uribe, and still being ranked last in doubles and triples in the MLB shows something is going on. Doesn't it? I'm not saying that those guys are swinging for the fences but I do think that the rest of the lineup is. Also, demeaning someone about their baseball knowledge when you are having a simple discussion doesn't strengthen your argument. No Pods goal, get on base (single/walk) and steal thus getting a double without swinging for the fences. Then Iguchi is to get him over. The problem with this though is that Konerko is hitting .150 when they are in scoring position he is the guy that is keeping the offense down as he is relied to be the major run producer and although he is getting guys in, he should have more. Other than that there are no other issues I see with the team.
  7. Isn't a breavement call up free against all options and can last from 3 - 6 days? If so, why not Jenks? Give him a taste of what he can have if he stays clean, incentive if you will. Baj or Jenks most likely will only pitch in mop up if/when either are called up this season. They fall behind every pitcher we have without question except maybe Vizcaino in the pen. No ML talent will be moved for them unless Viz or Shingo fall completely apart. Interesting though that each were extended further than normal with scouts watching.
  8. The stupidist thing about this post is the fact that to clinch on Sept. 6, would the Sox need to have about a 20+ game lead, would they not?
  9. There was a forum set up for everything baseball and someone that has become a 40 page thread within the forum that has interesting stuff and all new threads are well I have nothing good to say about most new threads. I would rather see a new thread for Schmidt and a discussion of his impact as well a different one for Zito and Burnett. If these new threads are wortheless they are on the next page within a couple of hours. Now the same worthless thread, sits out there for a day and you are left scrolling through 5 to 6 pages to read anything worth a damn.
  10. When John and Ed read the little rights thing isn't there something about, "any retransmission, braodcast or OTHER ACCOUNTS, without the specific authority of MLB is strictly prohibited." I think it is something like that. Would this make the game thread illegal?
  11. I came in this morning and have to read through 18 pages on the one trade thread this is intersting stuff yet there is nothing of interset in any of the other threads. I think this rolling of misc info is really taking away from the site unless you are on non-stop. 40 and 50 page threads serve no purpose. IMHO
  12. Who will present him.......JR???????????????
  13. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) People who are worried about attendance don't get to enjoy this special season to its fullest. Why worry about attendance when there's nothing you can do about it. It's not like you have 10,000 friends who you can bring with you. Those people are gonna be bummed tonight...the last 3 corner sections on either side will be empty..probably 22K...and then Wed..ouch. I'm just preparing myself for all their rants later on. The more fans that show up the more money that will be put back into this team. Why spend $100M on payroll if you are going to draw 20,000 when you can spend $30M and draw 15,000. Do you see why attendance is important? I understand there is nothing you can do but when JR is blamed for not spending, it is not his fault. There is no reason to not go to the park.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 06:24 AM) This is the s*** that had fans upset with Jerry "the tinkerer" Manuel. Switching to a different line up everyday isn't going to work. Carl and Frank are going to platoon for now. Ozzie will have to decide a little bit by schedule and a little bit by match-ups. Either way, I suspect who ever is sitting will get a pitch hit appearance late in a game. Tinkering with s*** players was the problem.
  15. Jeff Abbott May 2000. DOwn 1 PH game winner.
  16. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) I really appreciate everyone's help: Just to clarify. I55 North to Dan Ryan South (Toward Indiana) Exit 35th St Past 35th St towards 37th and will be waved in just before 37th Also: Is the Dan Ryan 355 or 294 or somethign else? I'm actually better with the numbers and is this a lot you have to pay in? Remember to stay right the whole time
  17. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Who was ahead of Buehrle? I remeber that was the year where he struggled in the first half. Colon and Loiaza
  18. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) honestly I cannot fault a pitcher for wiping his brow. It is so hot on the field in their uniforms, and they are constantly throwing, alot of sweat builds up on your head. If this is somehow cheating, then they all cheat. My point wasn't that wiping your brow is cheating. My point is he does it an inordinate amount of times. I understand he sweats we all do but this thread is about maybe something that is going on and this is somethign I feel is odd. That is all. The conversation is about cub players throwing spitters and who it may be. This is why I think it is Maddux.
  19. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) it's hard for me to agree that a team that didn't get in would be a tough out. Valid point but on paper they were one of the best teams in baseball Buerhle was their number three pitcher. To go with the thought of this string the 2003 team was better than this team.
  20. Grossly overworked and overpaid. Nice guy though.
  21. Padilla hates the Sox, read his crap. He is a bozo. Maddux, next time he pitches watch how often he lifts his cap and wipes his brow.
  22. He said he hopes to pitch lights out the remainder of this and next year and get a huge deal from the SOX the year before the final year. He said he is a die hard Cardinal and WHEN THE SOX, THE SOX, THE SOX THE SOX give up on HIM HIM HIM HIM then he would like to pitch for the Cardinals.
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) I definitely agree with this. For what it is worth this was what I felt the whole situation is. Guillen can't say, "Go get me Eric Chavez, Pedro Martinez and Ben Davis," and actual think is going to get them. I beleive they set a philosphy and Guillen gets rid of guys and mentions guys that are available that may fit. Rid - Lee Get - Smart good guy Dye Rid - Valantin Get - after researching Pyz Need - bullpen help get Hermanson and Vizcaino Guillen get that SS from FL he may work out, he may not
  24. What will Carl catch the most heat for........ 1) Ripping on fans - - - he is right, go to Wrigley 2) Ripping on Wrigley - - - -he is right, go to Wrigley 3) His not accepting homosexuality --- see 1 and 2 (see kidding) He is not John Rocker. This is a debatability issue but not a malicious attack. His steroids v. the war is what should be the biggest topic as you may argue if more teens are lead to beleive they can succeed with steroids, this may kill more, or already has indirectly than the war in Iraq.
  25. After he gave up the BS homer to Clark, the next four hitters did not have a chance. I think Jon will roll the rest of the way. He looked really ticked after the homer.
