  1. He is 24/25 years old. Compare him to every other 24 year old and see where he rates. Anyone that thinks he sucks has not watched him pitch. When is winning 12 games a year and not missing a start EVER a bad thing. He is as solid a number three as there is there is no debatting that. Look at every single stat of #3 pitchers and see what they have done.
  2. The thing is that the Sox are adding quality arms with experience. Teams do this all of the time, the Sox do not. What if this moves allows Contrearas or Hernandez to move to the pen at some point because McCarthy or some one else steps in. I take this move over overpaying for a three or four that is not better than garland and may not be better than any of our 5. There is a risk that Clement could falter as much as Hernandez and Llowe and hell even Pavano don't have solid track records for what they are being paid. Of the risks being taken by teams on starting pitching, this is low. A dead arm...see Buerhle in the beginning of 03, this is minor, see Clement the last two weeks of the last two seasons. When this guy is on, he is on for $2M, this could be a steal. If Contrearas and El Duque mesh......well we'll see.
  3. Amen, I have been saying this for the last two years that this rather than the record of the #5 is what is killing us.
  4. Who has a better rotation (1 through5) in the AL and on top of that has them set up for a few years? People will b**** to b**** I guess.
  5. With the non-tenders coming off the books where are we currently at and what openings do we have to fill with the cash?
  6. Why? He is a decent 4/5th outfielder. If anything it makes sure Borchard is not an option. Rowand, Pods, Dye, Perez, Everett (Willie in an emergency) Solid, not great but solid. He is also a clutch RBI guy.
  7. Weren't there a world of posts on this site last year. The injury seems very minor and his attitude may be the issue. Worh a shot indeed. If nothing else he can sit in the pen and argue with the fans behind him. Sounds like this was the reason Meaux was moved off the 40 man.
  8. Jennie Finch is to me. As Neil Cotts is to Steff. I love ..............ah, what the hell is the aforementioned called? No wonder I failed English.
  9. Why do you get to start your own Matt Clement thread for everyone to join? I opened this thinking there was something new. Nope just another Matt Clement thread.
  10. In the Sosa deal the money is not guaranteed and can therefore by reworked I believe in the ARod deal they want to forfeit real/owed money. If the cubs do not pick up the option, sosa does nto get hsi money. How much of the Hampton money are the Braves on the hook for? I think the Marlins and Rockies are covering a good chunck of it.
  11. Sorry to rain on your parade. Watch for Sosa for Jones and then Hudson signed using the Jones money long term.
  12. Angels have Colon.
  13. Jay Jay the Jet Plane will rant about how cheap the Sox are for not offering $12M a year to settle all of their issues because they are a Huge market and loaded.
  14. And who is our #5?
  15. In all seriousness JR could show the charitable work the Sox do (the Cooper and Hickey thing is mind blowing.) To a person that Clement seems to be, this could be a big selling point. Not to change this but these are the type of things that make the Sox a larger part of the community and is not written about as compared to the corporate giant. If Mark Prior was handing out toys for the CHA it would be a cover story, Mark Buerhle does it and the only way we know is because he will do an interview which is intent to try and get dirt on Lee an Foulke for WMVP. When the cub does this I guarantee the guys are in town for the cub convention. The charitable work of the White Sox is staggering and goes unnoticed because JR elects to do things this way. And no, I am not a huge supporter of how they run things but I like many things they do.
  16. A couple of things on Matt Clement. 1) When he is on he is awesome when he is off......well, see Pirates game last year. 2) He finished weak this season and I beleive he didn't pitch very well in the playoffs the previous year. 3) He has an asthma condition that was brought up after one inning when he ran the bases then got absolutly pounded the next inning.....you know that may have been #1 and the reason for #2. Well anyway I guess I am stating the feelings of everyone else when I say he is not worth more then $7M a year but we may not have a choice. This is why KW has his job and we get to sit at our worthless jobs and think about crap like this.....sorry not a good morning. If not Clement, then Lowe/Perez/Millwood and AJ. I am more content with either of these than getting Johnson as we would have a more complete team 1-25, which is what wins in the end. Now an incomplete team and $6M in the pocket :puke
  17. The agent that inked his deal with the Dodgers is now the D'Backs CEO. Also, he has the highest Slug% of any visting player at the BOB.
  18. They drop over $5M in Garland and Marte so it works to be about the same.
  19. This trade is good but we still need a fifth starter. If they think Shoe can fill that role fine. A servicable fifth starter gives us the division the last two years. I still like Clement/Perez/Lowe and Prez. RJ is great but we go from having 4 guys locked up for a couple of years to two and Contrearas???
  20. Everett is still a major league hitter that would be a good DH especially if Frank is out. I would say there is a good argument to be made that Vazquez may not be a a better pitcher this year than Garland and WE STILL HAVE A HOLE IN THE ROTATION and no money to fill it.
  21. The thing with this move, we still need a #5. If we are not getting Johnson this trade blows. Unless it is Garland for Vazquez straight-up or we are getting Vazquez and signing Clement then it works. Last week by making this trade, we solidifed our rotation and look a little hit to payroll. Now we do not need the payroll so as stated in an other thread, the Sox can overpay via free agency but not with professional talent.
  22. Didn't their coach play for Ditka as a "Spare Bear?"
  23. I have a feeling Marte is part of any package and to tell you the truth I feel he is very overrated. Didn't he blow over 50% of his save opportunities.
  24. All I got to say is the yard gnome is gone and Roger can replace the dirt spot in left and there will be more room in the bullpen when pitching changes are made.
  25. Can somebody post the 40 man roster? I am to lazy to go to WhiteSox .com to look at it.
